Featured is an outstanding eCommerce opportunity in the home fitness niche that is well on its way to the next level. Great chance for an eager entrepreneur to step in and begin optimizing and growing with new ad campaigns, new products, and more.

Watch the video below to learn a bit more about the business.

Tell us a little about yourself. What’s your background? How did you start with this concept?

Currently I am in my final year of my Masters degree studying Global Journalism, so actually I don’t have any academic business background. In January 2020, I began looking into ways I could put my spare time to use, and started doing my own research on starting a business and all the ins-and-outs of eCommerce. The first store idea I initially was working on was for a travel product, which I was about to launch in February 2020. When there were signs that global travel was going to be all but shut down, I decided that launching a travel product store at that time would not be a great idea.

In March 2020, I put to work all of the knowledge I had accumulated from creating the first store into creating a second store, SpartanProFitness, selling home fitness equipment. The idea came along when the gym I had signed up for in months prior was shut down due to the pandemic, and I realized that I didn’t really have any at-home alternatives at the time. Figuring that many other people would be in the same situation as me, I initially marketed SpartanProFitness as a short-term alternative. As the year dragged on, it was becoming apparent through Google Trends that more and more people were shifting to home fitness, and as such I began planning for the long term, researching more products I could add to the store to diversify the exercises possible.

Overall, considering that I did not have any long term goals initially, and my lack of business background, I was surprised at the success of the store and customer response, which was overwhelmingly positive. I truly wish I had the time to continue working on and expanding this business, however I am limited by some personal issues that have recently come into play. I hope to be able to support whoever takes over the reigns of this business in continuing to expand the business and help customers maintain their healthy lifestyles.

How and where is the product made? Is this something unique to your store or available elsewhere?

The product is made in Shanghai, China, by a supplier that the business now has a healthy established relationship with. During the initial phases of the business, products from over 20 suppliers were researched and sampled to find the highest quality product to make for the best end-user experience.

We discovered that multiple other competitors were selling similar products that were cheaper in quality, which led to several negative reviews due to injury during use. We wanted to ensure that this would never happen, and as such we took the time and expense to find the highest quality supplier.

With over 2500 units sold, we have not received a single complaint from customers regarding product quality, nor have we had to replace any products under warranty due to the high quality construction.

All of our current inventory is fully branded with the SpartanProFitness logo, meaning the customer doesn’t get the feeling of the business being a reseller.

How have you marketed the product and where are your customers originating from? What sort of return on ad spend are you achieving?

Currently all of our customers are located within the USA, as are our two 3PL warehouse facilities. The majority of marketing has been done through Facebook and Instagram ads, in addition to emails being sent out for remarketing, abandoned carts, and new product launches. Overall return on ad spend for Facebook/Instagram ads has been roughly 2-2.5, with a profit being turned almost every day that the ads ran.

How much time does it take to run the business, who else is needed on the team, and what is automated?

For the sales and fulfillment side of the business, a large portion is fully automated, as sales that come in are automatically forwarded to the 3PL partner for fulfillment. The majority of time currently spent on the business includes product research for future potential products, replying to customer emails, replying to social media messages/comments, creating new ad copy/content, and general administrative tasks. At current sales levels, this is manageable for one person, however new team members can be added in the future if the business were to be scaled up significantly.

Can you list a few opportunities for a potential new owner to continue growing the business?

As this business is a home fitness product business, and has already passed the ‘one-product store’ phase, plenty more products are available on the market that can be added to the store.

In addition, there are countless opportunities for collaboration with athletes and fitness enthusiasts on social media for promotional activities. The home fitness market will undoubtedly continue to grow over the next few years and more and more consumers realize their available alternatives to expensive gym memberships.

This will be a great opportunity to establish SpartanProFitness as a well-known brand in the market over the next few years.
