Huge opportunity to take ownership of a 5+ year old skin care brand with a genuine following and a wonderful base of subscribing customers. Tell us a little about yourself. What’s your background?

I have worked in the nutrition and supplement industry for around 10 years. I also have a background in website design, SEO & Local SEO marketing. This combination, along with the skillset of my original business partner helped us bring this brand to nearly instant success when we launched a little over 5 years back.

How did you start with this business?

I had 2 other eCommerce businesses that sold vitamins & supplements, and after creating TrueClear we decided to jump into it. Here’s our story: 

A little over 6 years ago, my wife found herself struggling with adult acne in her 30’s, and her normal skincare routine just wasn’t working. Being a health-conscious mom, she was concerned about utilizing the cleanest ingredients to clear her skin. She found herself frustrated with skin care products that weren’t living up to their promises and felt like there had to be a better solution. I had been working in the nutritional supplement industry for years, so she often asked me what vitamins I thought would help most with her skin. Together, we recognized the right combination of vitamins, herbs, and antioxidants could be the secret to clear skin from the inside out. With my knowledge of vitamins and her desire for a natural acne solution, the idea for TrueClear was born. We sought out to create a supplement specifically for treating and preventing acne. For the next year, they spent their time working with researching, testing, and fine tuning their formula with experts to find the perfect blend of ingredients to create the TrueClear Acne Supplement. 

How and where is the product made? Are there FDA or similar regulations that need to be adhered to for these sorts of products?

We have a few different manufactures for each product, All of our products are manufactured in FDA regulated facilities, and adhere to GMP regulations as well.

Is this sold exclusively through your Shopify store or is it available through platforms like Amazon? Do you have any wholesale business?

We sell directly on our Shopify website only, no Amazon, Ebay, Etc. In the past we were doing quite a bit of wholesaling to outside businesses. Quite a few salons, and international stores were buying in bulk from us. We have recently stopped doing wholesale orders just from the lack of time I have, but it would be a great place for a new owner to look for quick, sustainable growth.

How much time does it take to run the business, who else is needed on the team, and what, if anything, is automated?

To keep it running in its current state, it takes me about 5-7 hours per week. And 3-4 of those hours are for shipping and fulfilling orders. During our peak years, I was spending around 30 hours per week on the business. Currently we have no employees, but during the peak we just had 2 employees, one for customer service, and one for shipping. Which could be replaced with a fulfillment center if needed.

Can you list a few opportunities for a potential new owner to continue growing the business?

I have literally neglected this business for close to two years. When it was doing it’s best, we were continually creating creative content for social media, and ads. 

More time and creativity put into Facebook ads, Google Shopping, Pinterest and TikTok would take the business back to it’s glory days and beyond. 

We have neglected email marketing in the last 2 years as well. So that would be a huge added stream of revenue. We have over 55K subscribers on our list.
