ABOUT THE SELLER 

Luke Pedretti and myself launched Piclay in 2013, I (Saxon) come from a background if UI and fashion design. Luke came from a background in retail. Together we managed to build  product that has been downloaded over 6 million times. At the beginning we spent money on user acquisition through facebook advertising and Instagram. It has been over 1 year since we have spent any money on marketing. Piclay continues to grow by 30,000 users each month.

REASON FOR SALE

We have decided to sell Piclay as we do not have the resources to continue updating the product and maintaining it. We wish to focus our attention on new ventures.

  

DEVELOPMENT

Piclay was developed in Swift, the product should generally be updated every 2 or so months to increase traffic. We can offer the Team’s details that works on Piclay as they are competent and intuitive.

  

OPERATION

Piclay only requires time spent when you wish to update the product and fix/include new features. other than that the app runs itself.

  

MONETIZATION

Piclay is monetized through IAP purchases as well as Admob and Appodeal SDKS, we also have beacon SKD's within the app which include Reveal and Beaconsinspace. Each of these monetization systems are paid monthly.

  

MARKETING

We spend absolutely nothing on marketing. The last time we marketed Piclay was at the beginning of 2016. When we were advertising on FB we would gain a download between $0.20-0.60 cents per user.

FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES

The app figures and statistics above only shows Piclay Pro and Free iOS versions. As shown in this listing, the profits are very good on their own. It would not be hard to imagine that by just updating Piclay Pro and Free Android Versions to mirror the iOS versions, the revenue and download statistics in this listing will undoubtedly at least double the already lucrative income this listing presents. The new buyer can also include a media spend, and has the option to offer more for free within the app and continually do small updates.

We have not promoted or advertised this app in 2 years, this is the cause of the decline in revenue. All current downloads and revenue are 100% organic. To mitigate it simply promote it.

Wondering if there are any costs associated with updates and bug fixes etc. Also, estimated costs of promoting the app enough to see the app increase in revenue at the same rate its gone down in the last twelve months.

@Niksterj If you decide to update the app, then you will be responsible for the costs of the update. The amount depends on what features you want to ad. Promotion costs are hard to estimate, it largely depends on how good of a marketer you are. I'd say if you could put 40 - 50% of revenue per month back into promotion you will see a significant increase in downloads and revenue.

@Saxonjquinn my question about updates is because in App Store, your version history shows bug fixes and updates quite frequently which is normal. Are these all at a cost? If so how much?

@Niksterj yes any update you would like to do costs money. The cost depends on what features the update has and the hourly rate of the developer you use.

@Saxonjquinn In the "costs" column above it is flat $100 per month yet there's been a fix or update every 1/2 months as can be seen in the App Store version history. Just trying to get an idea on costs of updates that's all.

@Niksterj The cost of $100 per month, is for the google api, which allows the app to use the google search tool. It varies depending on how many google searches are done per month, it's usually around the $100 and under mark. Updates don't have to be done if you don't want. We just do updates on all our apps to keep them fresh. Update costs depend on what you want to do on the update. Unless you are changing or adding any major function the updates shouldn't cost more than $500. The cost also depends on your developers hourly rate. There shouldn't need to be any major update, for a long time because we are updating the code now to the latest version so it will comply with iOS 11 once its released .

@Saxonjquinn can you please be more transparent about the costs for the last 12 months? the updates were obviously not free so it would only be fair to include the actual money you spent - if 500USD/month (this is what you stated) is accurate then please confirm.

Otherwise confirm the price that your team has been charging and whether they continue with the new owner at that price point.

@retze Updates are not required. The only cost required for Piclay to operate in its current form is the approx. $100 per month for the google search. If you purchase the app you do not have to update it. However we do updates on all our apps to keep them fresh, as mentioned in the comment above update costs depend on what functions and features your adding. If you are doing an update and not adding any major function changes they should be under $500 USD. Our last 3 updates were: March 19th cost under $500, Feb 11th cost under $500, Nov 8th cost under $500. Again these updates are totally optional, these 3 were done to try out different beacon advertising SDK's.
