Flippa is the world's leading online marketplace for buying and selling websites, and we're growing fast. We've sold tens of millions of dollars worth of websites in the last year and there's much more to come.
We're looking for an experienced Senior Product Manager to lead our product team and the marketplace business. We need someone who can get the team excited about where we're going as well as helping them optimise where we are today.
Flippa is a world-leading marketplace that connects entrepreneurs with global business opportunities. We're growing consistently year on year because we're passionate about helping anyone own their own business. We're currently focussed on websites, domains and apps.
Working at Flippa is fun. We try new things. We move fast. We like to keep things simple and we make quick decisions based on data and a deep understanding of our users.
You're ready to take the next step and take charge of a business. You love unravelling tricky problems and finding simple solutions, and enjoy mentoring others to do the same. You've got heaps of experience working cross-functionally and are equally comfortable writing requirements as you are a strategic roadmap. You're self motivated and find the balance between being detail oriented and knowing when good enough is good enough.
By working at Flippa you're working in a building that buzzes with startup activity. Some of Australia's best mentors started this company and the're in the building to provide guidance and come up with new ventures. There's free coffee, beer and BBQs, gym membership, an opportunity to work on your table tennis skills and flexible working arrangements.
Interested in joining our Melbourne team? Email email@example.com telling us why this job appeals to you and what you think you could bring to the Flippa team.
Are you sick of job ads that say 'Kick-Ass' or 'Ninja' or 'Brilliant' or 'Best of the Best'? We are. We just want real Ruby devs who love to code.
Flippa is looking for devs—senior through to junior—who want to work in a small but high-class team that gets stuff done. We're good at making software and we're fairly agnostic and flexible about the technology we use to do it. 2.5 years ago we decided we needed to get away from PHP and since then we've moved about 80% of our code to Rails. The two apps share a MySQL database and behave like a single application together.
Travis runs tests for us. 'bundle exec cap deploy' takes our code straight to AWS and into production, where it's served by a clever mixture of nginx, varnish, perlbal, unicorn, and apache. Around the edges, there's memcache, redis/sidekiq, elasticsearch, and a number of other bits and pieces. Our newer apps are often on Heroku using Postgres.
Your role in this is to slot into the team and build quality software. We're agile, so you'll be working closely with our product team who think through the impact of new features and put together user stories before a project is kicked-off.
Mostly you'll be designing and writing Ruby code and specs with RSpec and Capybara. Some days you'll pull your chair up and pair program for the day with another developer. You'll probably have strong opinions on tech choices and dev process, and that's a good thing.
Skills & Requirements
You just need to be a proper web dev. It would be great if you were already perfect at Ruby and PHP but if you're good enough, we're pretty sure you can pick up what you need.
We're the world's biggest marketplace for buying and selling websites, domains, and iOS apps. We were born from SitePoint, along with 99designs, and Learnable.
We're very profitable and growing. We have a relaxed workplace in Melbourne - the town with the best coffee in the world. Not to mention some amazing food.
Our office space is shared with other companies in the SitePoint Group and feels like one big, happy family. There's plenty of room for sharing knowledge and grabbing developers from any of those companies to talk about and solve problems.
Once a quarter, we have Triple Time - three straight days to work on whatever you want. Mid-year, we go away on a team retreat for a week. At the end of the year, we celebrate with a few nights at the beach. We have a great team and we actually love working together.
