You can see a map of these users in Intercom here.

Lists well in Google for organic key words including:

  • “to do list maker”

See the detailed breakdown of search rankings on SEMrush.

----Flask.io Around The Web----

Flask.io has received a lot of attention from top quality publishers. To name a few:

----Technology----

  • Ruby on Rails application
  • Postgres database
  • Hosted on Heroku ($9/month)
  • Domain on Gandi ($35/year)
  • Other free tools: Cloudflare, Mixpanel, Google Analytics, Uservoice, Mailgun, Intercom

----Post-Sale Support----

  • I'll work with you and your developer(s) to transfer everything over and ensure it works (both locally and in production)
  • This will include the application, existing data, existing 3rd party tools, and the domain name (flask.io)
  • As everything is hosted in the cloud (e.g. Heroku, Cloudflare) it will be straight forward to transfer ownership over
  • The code base will be shared via GitHub
  • I'll share any graphic/visual assets that have been used for designs and branding
  • As the technology used is Ruby on Rails you (or your team) will need some Ruby on Rails experience if or when you intend to make changes and add features

----About Me----

I'm a web developer from San Francisco with 10+ years experience designing and developer web application software.

I made Flask.io as a side project to learn some Ruby on Rails skills and experiment with some third party tools. Now it has a vibrant community of active users and I believe with some time and focus this can be monetized and turned into a small business. I work full time for a software company so don't have the time to push this forward myself.

What are some more interesting things people are using this for? Seems like overkill for basic grocery lists and the like.

Is there an admin panel?

@JudetheObscure Yes there is an admin panel where you can manage all the lists.

The usage tends to be split 50/50 between using it at home and at the office. Lots of daily todo lists. Lots of office tasks and team projects. Teams use the color tagging to help assign to different people.

Some people have asked how Flask.io can make money, or how I had planned to make money and why I'm not today.

When I created Flask.io it was a learning project. You can read the original launch blog post here (http://www.leemunroe.com/flask-todo-lists/). I followed that up with a blog post about always having a side project (https:[email protected]/side-projects-are-your-playground-a8d1fec5379d).

It has been great to see it organically grow over time (I haven't spent a dime on marketing or advertising) but I have other projects and interests that distract me from pushing Flask.io forward and adding the features I've wanted to add. I know there's someone who is better suited to do this.

Here are some ideas I've thought about but haven't executed on.

1. Paid Plans
There's a substantial user base here. There are both consumers and businesses. Some of the businesses are very reliant on the service for easily sharing information and tasks across teams. There are definitely users who would be prepared to pay for this as a monthly service.

2. Domain Name
I'm sure over time and with the right promotion or contacts you could get a good price for this short domain name, ".io" domains are very popular in startup world. It also has value from the backlinks we already have in place e.g. lifehacker.com

3. Custom Features
There are a lot of feature requests listed on UserVoice (https://flask.uservoice.com/forums/194854-feature-requests/filters/top). Some of which users and teams would pay for.

Just some ideas. Of course ideas are cheap and it takes execution to make it happen. Hope this is helpful.

Have you stopped the development on the site in 2013? Which version of Ruby on Rails does it use?

@Puertorico Yes, I haven't added any features recently (here's the release timeline for anyone else interested http://flask.io/about), just some bug fixes and maintenance. The versions are Ruby 1.9.3, Rails 3.2.3.

How many emails do you have? And an active user is defined as someone who has logged in at least once in the last 30 days? Thanks.

@ccpr20 5,247 emails. The active users as defined by Google Analytics (see the active users attachment for an example and more info here https://www.optimizesmart.com/understanding-active-users-report-google-analytics/). For March 2017 this number was 2,194. Note that the way the service works does not require a login. So active users are not necessarily logged in.

@hbkmunroe Have the users signed up for a mailing list? Meaning, do you have the 5247 user emails in something like Mailchimp or is that just the emails you've collected from users as part of the signup process?

@ericbrown All user accounts are tracked in Intercom. So it is easy to (a) message all the users from Intercom or (b) export the list and import it into another tool like Mailchimp.

The service tracks each email that is sent when a user shares a list. There are roughly 3,000 emails in this list too which sit in the database. Not necessarily unique and likely cross over with the 5,247

How's the quality of the code? Tests? What's the test coverage about?

Was a designer involved? Did you use a front-end framework like bootstrap or a theme, or was it from scratch (it looks like some premade components were used).

@djrv There are no code tests unfortunately. The service is fairly simple so the code is very straight forward. I did all the design and development myself. No frontend framework. Custom theme. Using SCSS. Also uses jQuery and Coffeescript. I added an attachment which gives you a preview of what the codebase looks like. I know this doesn't give you a lot of detail but if you're familiar with Rails apps hopefully this adds a bit more transparency.

Hi, do you have a mobile app for the service? And if no, how hard will be to make one?

@DZstar There is no native mobile app. It is responsive and usable on mobile however. 20% of usage is on mobile today. Native Android app and iOS app are two of the top feature requests (see https://flask.uservoice.com/forums/194854-feature-requests/filters/top). You could easily wrap the current responsive web app with something like gonative.io, or you could use the REST API to build one yourself. Currently the API supports Creating, Updating, Deleting lists as well as Listing, Creating, Updating and Deleting tasks.
