Description

The Inspiration Fuse network of sites provides inspiration for web and graphic designers. This sale includes a total of 8 sites: 6 galleries, 1 gallery submission service, and 1 network home page. The sites are:

Five of the sites are PR 5 and the other three sites are PR 4.

The network is effective because the galleries draw traffic (mostly designers who are looking for inspiration) and all of them promote Gallery Rush, which is a great service for anyone who wants to submit their site to many of the best galleries. Manual submissions to so many galleries will take a very long time, but through Gallery Rush they can pay $17 to have their site submitted to over 90 galleries that have chosen to receive submissions from Gallery Rush. The galleries are also monetized through banner advertisements.

HISTORY

The Inspiration Fuse Network of sites was launched in June of 2009 with 5 niche gallery sites (http://foliofocus.com, http://minimalexhibit.com, http://cartfrenzy.com, http://blogdesignheroes.com, http://typeinspire.com). In December of 2009 http://iconfever.com was added, and in January of 2010 http://galleryrush.com was launched.

I have been spending about 2-3 hours per week (total) maintaining all of sites in the network. Most of the galleries showcase 1 new item Monday through Friday. Typically I will add new items to be showcased once or twice a month for each gallery, rather than adding them one-at-a-time each day. All of the galleries are powered by WordPress, so they are easy to maintain and posts can be set to publish in the future so you won't need to login and manually publish items each day. The process of adding new items is rather simple and will be explained to the buyer or to potential buyers who are interested.

Gallery Rush is also easy to manage. Each of the partner galleries (over 90 of them) have chosen to receive submissions from Gallery Rush by email. When a new customers fills out the form at Gallery Rush and completes the payment (via PayPal), an email comes to me with the details. I check the site to make sure it is high enough quality to submit to our partner galleries. If I feel that it has no chance of being showcased in web design galleries, due to low quality of design, I will email the customer to let them know and I will refund the money via PayPal. If the site is approved I will send an email to all of the partner galleries via an email list. It's a quick process and only takes a couple of minutes for each submission.

Additional Revenue Details

Revenue is earned in 2 ways: 1) Gallery Rush submissions, and 2) the sale of banners ads on the galleries. Gallery Rush submissions have increased since the site launched in January and as the site has become known as an effective way to submit sites to a lot of quality galleries.

The sidebar 125 x 125 banners are managed through http://buysellads.com. No work is needed to sell or maintain these ads, although if you wanted to approach potential advertisers yourself you could certainly do that. BSA takes 25% of the ad revenue as commission. The buyer is not committed to staying with BSA, although I highly recommend it because it is very easy for you and for the advertiser. The BSA account can be transferred to the buyer so there will be no impact on the existing advertisers.

The 960 x 40 sticky footer banner has been sold privately, at the advertiser's request. They have an interest in a long-term relationship, although there is no contract or obligation. They pay via a recurring PayPal subscription, so that will need to be set up after the sale so that it goes to the new owner instead of to me.

Additional income would be possible through AdSense, RSS feed advertising, affiliate products, and potentially through text links. I frequently receive emails inquiring about the possibility of buying text links from the gallery sites, but I have always turned those offers down. Some gallery sites also charge for an express submission (to be reviewed quicker) and I have tried that recently at http://foliofocus.com with a small amount of success.

In August the sites brought in $667 (gross), resulting in $583 in profit after all fees and expenses.

August's income:

- $367 from Gallery Rush submissions

- $300 from banner ad sales

The expenses to manage the network are as follows:

Hosting: $13.95 per month (with Site5)

FormStack: Gallery Rush submissions and payment are processed by FormStack, which is $14 per month.

BSA ad commissions: 25% of banner ad sales

Additional Traffic Details

In August the sites totaled 55,000 unique visitors and 287,000 pageviews. Traffic has been fairly consistent for about 6 months to a year. The numbers were slightly higher at times when more items were being published at the galleries. Leading traffic sources include direct (from subscribers and type-ins), Google search, and from my blog at http://vandelaydesign.com/blog/. There are a number of links to the galleries in posts throughout the archives of the blog, those links will not be removed.

I can send you the PDFs from Google Analytics for the past 12 months. Can you PM me your email address? Also, I'll send screenshots from BSA (the banner ads have not been up for a full year) and from Formstack that shows payment was made on Gallery Rush submissions.

    Hi
How do you submit the sites to 90+ galleries? Is it done by hand? how long does each one take?

    mrgoodfox,

submission is done through an email list and takes just a couple of minutes. see the explanation in the description:
When a new customers fills out the form at Gallery Rush and completes the payment (via PayPal), an email comes to me with the details. I check the site to make sure it is high enough quality to submit to our partner galleries. As far as PR is concerned, the following sites are PR 5:

is that it only takes a couple minutes to submit to each of the 90+ sites or a couple minutes to send to the whole 90+ sites. Sounds like you just do a email blast to all 90+?

What guarantee do you give the customer?

do you actively go out looking for sites to post on your network. As I see it you might get 15 submissions a month. Where do all the submissions come from?

    wikinar,

it only takes a couple of minutes to submit one site to all of the 90+ galleries. No guarantees are made, you can look at the site and see for yourself what it says. http://galleryrush.com
There are way more than 15 submissions a month, however, I do publish sites that are not submitted. I wouldn't say that I "actively" look for sites to post, but as I come across sites in my every day browsing I will add them to a list and then when I am in need of sites I go to that list.
