An online service provides users the capability to feed their RSS feeds to Twitter. With 5,000 registered users managing 10,000 feeds and linking 7,500 Twitter accounts, the system has facilitated 3,000,000 Twitter updates. A URL shortener is utilized to condense Twitter update links and track clicks for analytical purposes. This service consists of four main components: a MySQL database, a PHP-based frontend for user interaction, a URL redirection and tracking system, and a process API for client interfaces. Additionally, a client component fetches the RSS feeds and posts the updates to Twitter across multiple machines, ensuring scalability and stability.
Hosted on slicehost with four 512MB slices, the service has demonstrated significant activity and engagement. Users can view generated Twitter updates on specific platforms. Currently, revenue is generated through user donations, with potential to adopt a freemium model if more booking-friendly features are implemented. Despite the potential for moderate revenue enhancement, time constraints have hindered the transition to such a model.
In September, the platform recorded 15,375 visits from 9,722 unique visitors, generating 79,178 page views. Users averaged 5.15 page views per visit, with an average duration of 4 minutes and 35 seconds per session. The bounce rate stood at 52.96%, with new visits accounting for 60.28% of the traffic. The service experienced a notable increase with 1,511 new user signups during this period, indicating active engagement and interest from the user base.
