Description

This auction is for the domain  www.amazingpopper.com as well as the ownership of the Amazing Popper trademarked product.  The Amazing Popper is a unique japanese bottle opener similar to The Bottle Popper, Sapporo bottle opener, Sentol bottle opener, Zap Cap, Push-n-Pop, etc.

I am letting go of my baby in order to fund my bankroll for stocks as it is more lucrative for me at this time.  Also, I am very busy with a ton of other projects, so I just need to offload this one so I can have a little bit of breathing room.

With this auction, the winning bidder will also receive:

1) full ownership of the domain AmazingPopper.com

2) ownership of the Amazing Popper trademark

3) the remaining inventory that is in stock by the end of the auction (~4500 pieces)

4) the contact information to the manufacturer

5) free technical assistance (domain transfer, site setup, etc.)

Revenue Details

AmazingPopper.com has been operational since March 2008, with average monthly sales of $800-1000.  Online sales are generated from  ebay and related niche verticals such as realbeer.com and probrewer.com.

Offline sales are generated from consignment to mom-and-pop stores as well as flea markets.  The poppers do especially well during holidays such as St. Paddy's Day and Mardi Gras, or at events like beer festivals and concerts.  If I had more time, I'd target beer distributors for another stream of revenue.

The reserve has been set to about 5x the average monthly revenue which will barely cover the cost of the inventory that you will be receiving (my cost ~.75/each).  I'm currently selling them for $4.99 each online and $5.99 each offline, but you can increase the price if you'd like...some competitors are selling for $9+shipping each!  As for bulk sales, I just make up the prices for each order as the number of units always vary from buyer to buyer, and I want to leave room for negotiation of price/unit.

I built the site myself and it's not pretty, but it gets the job done.  If you make some improvements to it, I'm sure you can drastically increase sales.  Also, I have not even explored other traffic sources such as google adwords, facebook, etc., but these channels can provide additional streams of income for anyone who knows what they are doing.

I've also previously sold an Acai Bery site http://marketplace.sitepoint.com/auctions/55290 for $1250 and the buyer was very happy as he recooped his investment within the first month.  Keep in mind that you are not only purchasing a site, but you are investing in a long-term business!

Traffic Details

Traffic sources are ebay, realbeer.com, probrewer.com and direct type-ins from repeat customers or word-of-mouth as the domain name is stamped right on the product.

~100 uniques/m

~300 pageview/m

even though the site's traffic is not that big, keep in mind that the conversion rate is very high as the audience is very targeted.

    @qmike - the reserve us set at $5,000USD.

    @chris - i did not formally register the trademark, but i've researched it before, and it falls under the "first to use" clause http://www.registeringatrademark.com/trademark-law-basics.shtml.

    A. Are you first?
    1. Trademark rights are granted to the first to use the trademark and/or first to file a trademark application.

    having said that and since your search did not return any results, you can be sure that i am the first to use it, and that i own it.

    Do the popper come in different colors or they are all white and what is the cost of costomizing 1 ?

    Also is it still 0.75 per units transport and customs included from the manufactor?

    @bromptonweb - my latest shipment was all white as i found that they are easiest to sell, but you can get them in blue or red. the cost to customize printing is only $100 for the printing plate, but that equals at least $1 markup per unit to your customer. yes, .75/each is my total cost for printing, packaging, customs, door-to-door delivery. you can save at least $1000 if you picked them up at the dock yourself.

    my feedback says 0%, but here's a site i previously sold for $1250 http://marketplace.sitepoint.com/auctions/55290. the buyer (monkey_123) was very happy and he recooped his investment the very next month. you can either ask him, or do a whois on reviews.acaiberryexperiment.info, and you will see its now owned by k.smith.

    @EVERYONE - i received some good questions from an interested buyer, so i've posted them below for all to keep from having to answer them again.

    1. what percentage of sales are just in the US
    - 100% of my sales are US based. you can certainly increase sales by selling globally, but i didn't want to get into trying to calculate shipping, etc. also, i'm currently charging a flat rate shipping, so i'm sure i'm leaving some money on the table, but you can implement a usps shipping calculator.

    2. how many bulk orders have you received in the past 12 months?
    - only 4 ranging from 100-1000 units. i have not done any offline promotion for wholesale, these leads came directly to me from the wholesale link, but you can grow the business if you had the time and sales skills.

    3. what percentage of chargebacks have you received in the last 12 months
    - i've only had 1 complaint that i can recall, and the buyer actually just requested a replacement...and this was after he had it for 1 month!

    4. can you provide verifiable trading stats since March '08?
    - not sure what kind of proof you're looking for, but i've uploaded screenshots of paypal sales from the past 3 months, as well as a screenshot of my invoices to support these sales. please keep in mind paypal does not include the offline sales.

    5. what expenses do you currently pay monthly?
    - my expenses are hosting ($6.95 share with my other sites), ebay listing fees ($.30/item) and ad banner fees vary (ranging from $30-50 depending on size/location).

    6. lastly, what is the min. order amount from your manufacturer, and are they based in the US?
    - the minimum order is 5000 units, and they are based in China

    Shipping costs on a 5000 order minimum must be fairly high if you can save $1000 by picking up at the dock. What do shipping costs run/

    @danva - 5000 units cost about $1000 from the dock b/c of my location (new york to philly) and because the freight is almost 1000lbs. freight costs on the barge is only $200 from china, and that is factored into the .75/unit cost. if you fill a custom printed order, you would ship it directly to the customer from the manufacturer. so, 5000 units would cost you (.75x5000=$3750), you resell them for $4.99/each+$1 markup for custom printing, that comes out to $29,950. honestly, i have not had time nor do i have the sales skills to go out and market custom jobs, but this would be a huge source of revenue if you could do it.

    the shipping that i usually incur is $1.50/each, but it's free when the buyer just purchases 1, so I profit $2.75/each. here's an example of the shipping structure i use:

    3pak = $4.99
    10pak = $6.99
    20pak = $8.99
    50box = $9.99
    200case = $46 @38lbs

    as previously mentioned, i use a flat rate regardless of distance, so i'm leaving money on the table in some cases, and profiting in others, so it all evens out. you can implement a shipping calculator if you'd like to get more accurate quotes.

    Do you have any active affiliates promoting for you and making sales?

    How much time right now is this site taking you to run per week and what is involved?

    @dropship - since ive been so busy, i was hoping to recruit affiliates to help me further promote my product. the site is all setup to accept affiliates through affplanet.com's tracking system, but again, i've been so busy that i haven't even been able to promote my affiliate program. i believe the monthly maintenance fee for the tracking system is $20, but since i haven't been using it, i had to cancel it.

    the site probably takes me takes me a couple hours a week to maintain. i spend like 30mins every morning checking for orders/answering questions, printing the invoices and getting the packages ready for shipping. i also spend a few minutes cloning my items on ebay when needed. in the event of bigger orders, i usually call the customer just to touch base and work out the best deal to see if i can upsell.

    as far as offline, it varies and i do whatever i can when i have time, such as finding more stores to consign the item, selling at flea markets and sponsoring sports teams (the 50% of whatever they sell for the team), etc.

    So on sites that you're getting traffic from like realbeer.com, are you purchasing a banner there?

    Do you have repeat buyers that are purchasing in bulk?

    @dropship - yes, i'm purchasing banners. i'd recommend using adwords and bidding on competitor brands and exploring social networks for college kids who like to drink. from my order invoice screenshot, you can see quite a few repeat orders, but as far as bulk, i've only had 4 of those from the website. if you marketed more to retailers like bars, beer distributors, hotels, restaurants, etc., you prob could grow the biz 10-fold. most of my repeat customers are small mom-and-pop shops or flea market vendors ordering 10-20 at a time.

    @dropship - the only limitations on the silk-screen printing are 5 colors max, and the logo must be on the visible portion of the cylinder only and cannot wrap-around. also, you can print the logo on the top of you'd wanted instead.

    the reason my logo is so small is b/c i wanted to be able to print the customer's logo on the front, and have my logo remain on the back for marketing purposes. i would tell them that all of our logos are pre-printed, and in order to purchase items with ONLY their logo, i'd have to charge .5/each extra to order plain ones and have them "specially" printed.

    as far as the logo, you provide your own design to the manufacturer. then, they will submit it to their design department where it's resized to fit optimally within the given space. they will then send the logo back to you for approval. once you approve, they will create the printing plate, print samples, and send photos of the finished product for your final approval. once you're satisfied, they will begin mass production.

    @EVERYONE - just sharing a revenue breakdown question from an interested buyer with everyone

    if you read the first line of the revenue details section, you will see that the average monthly revenue is $800-1000...i am only guestimating. this is actually gross sales, but i have no idea what my net is because i do not keep careful records as this is just one of my many projects, and i don't have time to keep tight book keeping on it. the $4.99 sales you see are the obvious ones, but there are also orders for multi-packs (3,6,10,etc.), as well as ebay bids that always end in odd $ amounts. actually, in the first screenshot, you will see a sale of $900 for 300 poppers from david cruz. this account is used solely for amazing popper sales, and basically anything that has "print shipping label" is a sale. the other debit transactions are from me paying other people or myself for other business purposes. also, keep in mind that the screenshots are only partial months and i only fit what i could on the screen. they are just to give some proof that the site is generating sales regularly. my ebay userid is axd304, and i've only really been selling on there since dec. 08.

    here's a rough breakdown of what my monthly sales looks like.

    1. ebay - about 20units/m (~$100+) usually the winning bid is $.5-2.00 over $4.99; revenue could be higher b/c sometimes days will pass before i realize all the items sold and i need to post more items
    2. amazingpopper.com - about 25-50units/m (~$125-250) this varies depending on whether im running ads on the beer sites, and what beer related holidays and events are going on that month
    3. mom-and-pop corner stores - about 40-60units/m (~$199-300) i have a few stores that usually rebuy 10-20 each month
    4. flea markets - about 50-80units/m (~$250-400) i made friends with some vendors including an "as seen on tv" products vendor, and i give them a %
    5. bulk purchase - only had 4 so far totalling $4500, and these were all generated online via inqueries from the site

    @EVERYONE - another question i wanted to share

    Q: regarding the supplier, what happens if for some reason the supplier stops making them for whatever reason as for going out of business, etc. Do you have an easy way to get the production going from another chinese supplier or how hard would it be?

    A: i actually source a few suppliers during my research and just went with the best quote. i will provide the winning buyer with the backup supplier's information

    @monkey_123 - ken, i hope ur doing well, and thanks for the kind words. i just also wanted to mention that i continued to support ken and update links free of charge months after the sale
