Description

ActivityHorizon helps people find activities that interest them. Activity Horizon allows people to search for activities and events with evolving functionality based on their location, interests, and friends. The website was built at StartupCamp Sydney II.

Co-founder Ryan Cross during university at New Orleans had a car, plenty of friends, but extreme difficultly in finding events and activities that were location based. When he migrated to Sydney four years ago, he found similar issues trying to find activities he was interested in.

Social media entrepreneur Bronwen Clune states that "location based activity search is still in its infancy, and it would be great if someone could solve this problem outside of the bigger companies who lack focus in this area." Activity search is more complex than a Google search on locations, as it searches for dynamic events - data not easily available. Futurist Ross Dawson claims that "in the near future we will be able to instantaneously discover where we should go next. I look forward to knowing what's happening nearby that interests me the most, and where my friends are going too".

Activity Horizon is simple and powerful. Mick Liubinskas, a startup advisor with Pollenizer, says that: "Matching events with motivation is one of the Holy Grails of online businesses. The balance of useful versus simple has always been the challenge and this application may just have nailed it." With a focus on local recommendations and what you potentially are interested in, Activity Horizon will help keep you in the loop.

ActivityHorizon.com is too new to have a pagerank, but all previous StartupCamp sites have come in at PR4.

The auction includes:

- Domainname http://www.activityhorizon.com/ (Domain tranfer fee not included, payable by buyer)
- All source-code
- All content

Be aware that the site might be developed further during the auction.

    Then you can change:
Content: not unique (placeholder, reused or re-purposed)

    to unique.

That is talking about the script.

    Why are you selling?

Can you offer an example query that works well?

Selling is a requirement of the startupcamp weekend that we attended (not really because we want to :)) - a query that gives good data is Jan 26, 2009, adventure, "i'm happy to drive a couple of hours"

for a different place and time in the future, you can also try "New york city, ny, feb. 7th, adventure, road trip"

    Dear Sir/Madam,
I'm interested in procuring this site, I've read on SitePoint that there is a "Buy Outright" ability? Is there a way to do that with this site? Also, I noticed no documentation was offered with the sale of this site. Would you be kind enough to include some documentation with the purchase/auction? It would be somewhat difficult for me to understand everything if I'm just staring at code.

Also (I realise this is a minor point), what language is the site coded in? And is the code commented?

    Thanks for reading.

Is this site easy to run with little codeing experience. Is it easy to enter in events etc. Is it all automated. Could you list exactly what i get for my money. Thanks.

    vxfe976:
"There is no "Buy Outright" option for this auction. There is some documentation in the code, though it is not comprehensive. A competent developer should have no significant problems getting a handle on the code. During the hand-over, the team can also answer a few basic questions to get things running.

Regarding the technology, it is currently coded using PHP, MySQL and Perl"
the code is commented, but its not exactly verbose

    netcompany:
The site is not very difficult to run, and is semi-autonomous. However, it probably needs more development to make it successful. Entering in new events is not very difficult.

The auction description above lists exactly what you get
you would also get the a-h.me domain, which is used for making shorturls to activity shortlists
oh, and we can include the @activityhorizon twitter account and related other accounts with uservoice, etc
