    Hi

Thank you very much for your interest in myuktest.co.uk.

You mentioned we have one of the best looking websites but very poor ranking. My business partner and I both hold full time jobs and for the past few months have been working on another venture (foreign news related) as such we have not afforded myuktest.co.uk the time it deserves. Add to this the fact the we are both no Google experts, we have pretty much left myuktest.co.uk to “tick over” on its own.

What we are trying to achieve is to sell myuktest.co.uk to someone who can put some time into the website to fully monetise its potential (over 260 000 people need to write the test each year) and in turn we will be able to use the funds generated from its sale to invest into our new venture.

    Q. "...Do you have to update the content? if so, how often? how difficult? etc. etc."

Please Note: Included in the sale is a backend system which gives you full control over the test content. It allows you to add, edit and delete test content as well as provides basic user admin and reporting functionality.

    Q. "...Please verify site access."

We have now verified our website

    Q. "...would we like escrow for payment"

    Yes

    Q. "...please upload traffic and proof of revenue

    - Traffic: Google Analytics traffic report is now uploaded
    - Revenue: PayPal is processing our request to run a report, I'll upload as soon as it is done

    Regards,

    Mervyn

The above post is in response to the following message we received:

You have a nice looking site, I'm very interested but need some more information.

Your revenue has dropped significantly over time, which is not a good sign. Is this directly proportional to your adsense campaigns? What percent of your revenue is profit? You have 35,000 members, how many are paying members, or have paid for your services?

You have the best looking UK testing site, but one of the worst ranking, I'd like to figure out why that is.

Can you also verify site access and telephone number? Would you use escrow for payment?

PayPal Sales Report has been uploaded ... it was a straight export from PayPal broken down by transaction (not a monthly sales report or anything, sorry but PayPal is limited like that - very frustrating)

Please Note #1: You also have complete controll over the prices you set for each individual service. You simply update the price in a single config file and the rest is done automatically.

You may notice the sales figures reflect a price change we made a few months ago ... it was a basic attemp to test what impact dropping the prices would have. Thing is, we never really followed it up and as such you will notice the drop in revenue earned. I think basic analysis of the sales report will show the potential myuktest.co.uk has if run correctly

Please Note #2: You may also notice in the Google Analytics report that there is a few "lean" months. We originally explored the possibility of running two sites concurrently ... one from myuktest.co.uk, the other from uk-test.co.uk. These sites were identical except in appearance and the services offered (one was subscription only, the other subscription and/or credits) ... as mentioned above, we realised that we did not have the time to afford two sites so we combined the two sites into one and ran it out of myuktest.co.uk with the hope that we would be able to focus more if only dealing with one website ...

Please Note #3: Both sets of domain names are included in the price (www.myuktest.co.uk, www.myuktest.com, www.uk-test.co.uk, www.uk-test.com)

Your sales report has half the dates Xed out, and only shows dates for the first 9 days of the month. From that it appears revenue drops from £1,000 (250x4weeks in September) to January 2009 £260(65x4weeks). I'm hoping you can answer specifically: Your revenue has dropped significantly over time, which is not a good sign. Is this directly proportional to your adsense campaigns? What percent of your revenue is profit? You have 35,000 members, how many are paying members, or have paid for your services?

I'm still interested, there's just lots more to cover.

Hi. Hope this answeres your questions.

    Q. "...Your revenue has dropped significantly over time, which is not a good sign. Is this directly proportional to your adsense campaigns?"

There are a number of possible contributing factors here. Off the top of my head ...

    - We feel that this is proportional to our google advertising. We have lowered our spend. We have just logged into to google and for the past 7 days we have spent £20,37. As mentioned before if time is spent on google there is a tidy profit to be made

    - Lack of effort put into the website as a whole. As mentioned - after launch we have left it to its own devices.

    - AdSense Naivety. To start with we played with Google AdSense a little to get our campaigns going and then have gotten side tracked. As mentioned we are no Google AdSense pros ... we did at one stage consider outsourcing this as someone with the knowledge could make a good turnover.

    - Splitting website, we tried to run the website as two separate entities, then changed back to one website ... this may have impacted it co's again it was time wasted and a disruption etc

    - Changing prices ... this I consider to be one of the main factors. We experimented with dropping our prices and at that time tinkered with our AdSense campaigns ... this dropped our revenue significantly. We though dropping the prices would result in a far greater number of sales ... I think we were wrong here but have since not looked into it much or upped the prices again as we have simply left the site to go its own steam as our main efforts are fully in our other project at the moment.

    Q. "...What percent of your revenue is profit?"

This is a rough calculation and is based on the figures for the following date period: Jan 2008 – October 2008 ... and using the following calculator.

    http://www.pem.co.uk/common/calculators/gross_profit_margin.html

    Gross profit margin: 19.40%

Please Note: This I think this can improve substantially if some effort and “know how” was put into Google AdSense.

    Q. "...You have 35,000 members, how many are paying members, or have paid for your services?"

The PayPal Sales Report lists every transaction we have had for the period stated. However, a percentage of those 35K+ members may have come during the period when we had the site split into two sites running out of 2 separate PayPal accounts. When we combined the sites we combined the users tables. A quick and rough report shows that since July 2007 we have 22,064 registrations. So the Sales Report reflects this number ... registrations v sales.

We would like to bring the following to your attention:

If you look at our competitors you will see that they are sitting at the top of Google searches (paid advertising). To be in these positions they MUST be making money. We are not pulling the wool over anyone’s eyes when we say that there is huge potential here, but due to other commitments our input into myuktest.co.uk has simply ground to a halt – which can be seen in our sales figures and google campaign over recent months.

Thank you very much for responding to PMs promptly and answering our questions. Due to so many comments, I'd like to repost the following:

How often are the tests updated, and how do you keep your questions and answers updated? Will you be able to pass on information to keep the site's information (it's asset) to the new owner?

Your competitors advertise the number of questions they have, one being 1,000. How many questions do you have?

You have a license to sell an eBook on chapters 2-6 of the following book, what are the licensing costs?
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0113413130?tag=myuktest-21&camp=1406&creative=6394&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=0113413130&adid=13WSZB29M6H4S8QDCKCQ&

    Q. "...Your sales report has half the dates Xed out, and only shows dates for the first 9 days of the month. From that it appears revenue drops from £1,000 (250x4weeks in September) to January 2009 £260(65x4weeks). With profits at ~20% revenue, are your profits truly at £50 a month now?"

    - I ran the report out of PayPal last night (9th Jan 2009). I can clearly see every date from the report ... there are 2417 (less 1 for the heading) rows making up the Excel spreadsheet report, I clearly see 2416 dates. (Xed out??? Sorry not sure what you mean???)
    - The report only shows the first 9 days of the month. That would be due to the report being run last night ... the 9th of Jan 2009 ... it shows COMPLETED sales so it only shows sales up to and including the time I ran the report in PayPal.
    - One must also realise that in any business, January is a generally a bad month ... people over this period would naturally be more focussed on XMass and New Years so you would expect sales to be down.
    - We have provided all the info we possibly can about our visitors and sales etc ... we will leave all further analysis up to the potential bidders/buyers now! If there is anything else we can provide please ask. We want this sale to be as transparent as possible - we have nothing to hide, its a GOOD, SOUND business we are selling!

    Q. "...How often are the tests updated, and how do you keep your questions and answers updated? Will you be able to pass on information to keep the site's information (it's asset) to the new owner?"

Since running the website we have updated the questions once. The questions are updated through our backend system that is included in the sale (see notes above for more info) . We will pass EVERYTHING we use to keep the sites information (it's asset) current and updated to the new owner. It would not be logical to sell the pretty front end without the system use to keep it running and maintained. The new owners get everything!

    Q. "...Your competitors advertise the number of questions they have, one being 1,000. How many questions do you have?"

    - We have exactly 1,499 questions

    - As at this morning we have 35,742 registered users.

    - As at this morning we have had 189,463 tests taken

    Q. "...You have a license to sell an eBook on chapters 2-6 of the following book, what are the licensing costs?"

We applied for the licence and after our website was reviewed we were granted the licence to sell the eBook on chapters 2-6 of the book stipulated. This is a once off application and NO costs were involved!
