Revenue Details

The site is currently *free* to use since we never intended on making profit with it (was purchased solely for reselling purposes), however you may easily set up premium memberships with higher limits and permissions for your members (through the control panel). There's a wide variety of ways you could persue your members to upgrade their accounts.

The AdSense we've set up makes about $65/month.

Traffic Details

We didn't promote the site much since we took its ownership. Current traffic comes from search engines, social bookmarking sites and directories

Page views dropped because previous version of the website had some kind of PHP checker that kept refreshing pages, hence increasing page views.

Revenue actually didn't drop since original seller never provided any real proof of $200/month he mentioned on the site. As you can see his auction has no revenue screenshots. In any case, revenue of the site was not important to us at that point since site had real live members but was rather poor in terms of presentation.

What are your monthly expenses? How much are you spending on Adwords? How much time per day in maintenance does this site take you?

I think we spend about $50 for advertising on Yahoo and MSN but that's more of a "might as well" sort of thing rather than getting traffic. We don't use AdWords for this site.

Website is fully automatic so you don't have to spend any time maintaining it. It has very smart anti-scam features that take care of I'd say 95% of the spammers.

Forgot to mention that there are no other expenses than the nominal $50 for Yahoo/MSN. Site is hosted on our dedicated server.

Looks promising - but was surprised to see the price you paid for a free dating site.

If paid membership was introduced it would presumably have a dramatic effect on the membership and popularity of the site, which I see has an increased PR ranking since you bought it.

(But if that made greater income for the owner, well + good!) :)

I tried the "demouser" nick+password but got the message in red - "name taken by someone else"

Will be on the sidelines to see what happens. Good luck.

The price we paid was fair considering the number of active members it had at that point as well as marketing job previous owner has done. We did take it to the next level though and brought it to what it is now.

As long as you don't make it a "for payment only" site you'll just fine. A lot of members wouldn't mind paying a bit extra if they were offered higher limits and more features. We've set up a "go pro" page that may be used by a new owner for premium memberships: http://www.dateamour.com/page/gopro

You can use "demouser" account to login. I assume you tried to register with that name which is why you receive a "name taken" error message.

For a Canadian dating site, you have under 8,000 Canadian members and about 10,000 foreigners. What percentage of members are active? With any dating site there are a lot of registered but long abandoned accounts.

Also, what are your hosting costs? Any new owner would be wise to keep the site running on a Canadian server to maintain search engine rankings.

The site originally targeted global market which in our opinion isn't an easy thing to do. Since we purchased the site we have rebranded it and optimized it for Canadian market. Right now there's 8632 members from Canada. It's also much easier to market and promote the site this way rather than target the whole world right away. Site is hosted on our dedicated server so there's really no extra expenses for us there.

Number of active members? I'm very interested but when I used demo account there didn't seem to be anyone online, which is my major concern.

There were 121 logins in the past 24 hours, and 943 in the past 30 days. Those are unique logins which means that if the same member logged in five times, it was counted only once. Online members will have 'online' tag when viewing their profile.

Sorry for beeing a newbie but - Will all the files and databases be tranfered securely to my hosting service? And how will this be done exactly?

    Who's paying the Escrow.com fee?

And how much space/bandwith does this take?

All files and database will be transferred to your hosting account. We can do it for you and set it up all up if you prefer.

    We can pay escrow fees.

Total size of the site is about 150mb including members' pics. Monthly bandwidth is about 1.5gb

Do you use a Canadian hosting service?

Will it affect the SERP if I transfer to a non-canadian hosting service?

Yes, it runs on our Canadian dedicated server along with other sites. It might be of some importance but obviously not to the extreme point. Bottom line is that you can always find an affordable Canadian hosting company these days if you find it necessary.
