Description

I have been going back and forth about this site for the last year and a half really. Some of you may remember I was looking for a partner last year to work on this site and make it into a BlogCatalog type social netwroking site. I had some real interest in it then and even a few real good offers.

However, I never found the right person to be partners with and at that time I seriously wouldn't have accepted an offer for the site for $30,000. I saw what happened to Blogcatalog and felt that BlogsRater could become the next blog based rating and review site to combine with social networking.

After not finding a partner and not wanting to sell the site for less than what I thought it was worth I started looking for programmers to work on the project. Again after a few months of looking I couldn't find the right one. The reasons are not worth getting into, but lets just say this last year has been extremely frustrating regarding Blogsrater.

So, with that said, I have regretfully decided to sell the site and hope the buyer can do with what I dreamed about. This site truely does have great potential. Even before I saw what happened to BlogCatalog and MyBlogLog, I knew the basic idea of having a blog rating and review/directory site was a pretty good one. The next step is to improve it and combine it with social network abilities.

The site was a PR6 for a long time, but we did have some links on the site and you know what Google did to sites with paid links. So the PR went down and I took the links from Linkworth off. I still need to clean it up more and take off a few more links.

The script and design could use an overhaul. We were going to start from scratch and redo everything, but that's up to you.

Some stats:

According to Yahoo's Site Explorer there are 192,627 InLinks to homePage and 254,948 inlinks to the whole site. Here's the link to this:

Site Explorer  - just click on INLINKS and then use the drop down boxes to see the two different stats I quotes above.

I will post traffic stats, but here's a quick review of some.

* This year so far blogsrater gets between 8,400 and 9,400 uniques a month.

* Total visits between 17,600 and 21,000 a month.

* Total pages this year 237,650 and total hits so fat this year 9,470,890!

* This month, April, so far has received search engine traffic from 536 different keyword phrases.

* Last month, March, received search engine traffic from 1036 keyword phrases! Real Long Tail Traffic!

* Most of the "hits" traffic comes from the huge amount of links coming into this site. From this month alone the stats show hits from "54447 different pages-url".

* 16 diiferent bots and spiders have spidered the site this month. Last year 18 different visited Blogsrater. This is why this site is primed to take off. The search engines have always loved this site.

* Large majority of US traffic.

* During July 2007 the number of different keyword phrases that brought traffic was over 3200.

All these stats should be found in the screenshots below.

Revenue Details

I was selling text links but have stopped that. Now, I make all revenue from adsese. There aren't many clicks, but the amounts per click aren't bad.

This site could be making money in all different types of ways once it gets back on track and becomes a membership site. Upgraded memberships is defintaely a possibility.

I put down $75 per month because that is an estimate of the combined amount from adsense and links. However, as I stated above I stopped linkworth recently and also a couple other paid links. The adsens by itself is between $25 and $35 a month usually. The gighest I made was closer to $200 sometime in early 2007.

Traffic Details

The marjority of the traffic comes from direct address/bookmarks. However, there is a good consistant amount that comes from search engines from real long tail traffic. Also, links bring in some traffic.

No advertsing or paid traffic at all.

I will be lowering the BIN price fairly quickly over the next few days. In fact I'll lower it in about three hours. Last year I had people interested in Blogsrater at a higher amount than the current BIN.

Consider this, last year BlogCatalog sold for $40,000 here at Sitepoint and to this day some people think this was too much. Now, after one year Blogcatalog has passed up MyBlogLog which sold for $10 million last year at about the same time. Was the $40,000 a bad buy? I don't think so. It's not always about income times 12 months or whatever. Heck, if that was the case Youtube would have sold for zero since it was losing money. :-)

Please only comment if you have a legit question and are interested in buying Blogsrater.

What directory script does the site use?

You appear to have some errors on the submit page.

The script is custom made. I'll check the errors.

The errors are for ads we had there. We'll have to take those off.

    1) What is your reserve price if any?

Not sure if I want to reveal that now. People don't usually show the reserve price. It's not that high though. It's closer to the minimum price than to the BIN price. Plus, I'll be lowering both the reserve and BIN price as the auction goes on unless somebody takes the BIN price which is possible.

    2) What is your bandwidth usage?

So far this year it has been between 2.75 and 3 Gig a month.

    3) Where is the domain hosted? When is it up for renewal? When is the renewal for the domain name?

It is hosted on my dedicated server along with other sites. You will have to get your own hosting, although as I say below that I can give you time. The domain is registered at Godaddy and is up for renewal in Feb 2009.

    4) Does the buyer get full rights to all scripts?

I'll have to check with the programmer who made the site to make sure, but I would say yes, more than likely. He made the script custom for this site.

    5) How much space is currently used by the entire website?

The 2 to 3 GB mentioned above per month and the disk usage this month so far is 1167.73/2000 MB

    6) How will you arrange the transfer of the domain?

The domain is registered at Godaddy. It takes a few minutes to "push" after payment. I want to use escrow.com for this transaction though. It protects the seller and buyer. But a transaction usually takes anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks.

    7) Will you help with after sale setup and so forth?via email or phone? For how long?

I will help whichever way I can for a couple months by email or phone.

    8) How long do you think it would take to transfer ownership of the domain and hosting? Can I have you transfer it to my own host?

The domain takes just a few minutes. Hosting will take longer, maybe a couple days. I can't say for sure if I will have it moved for you. I wouldn't do it myself, but I know a couple people who could do it. I can provide free hosting for a couple months until we agree to who will transfer the site and who pays for it.

    9) Is this the only auction you have for this site?

Yes, the only one currently going on.

    10) Are you paypal verified?

Yes, but I am using escrow.com for this transaction.

    11) Can you message me the link proof of domain and hosting ownership?

You can do a whois search at whois.net. With escrow.com your money will be safe. It won't be released if you don't get the site and domain.

    12) How long the site been live and are you the original owner or did you buy it from somebody else?

Since Feb 2006 and yes, it was my idea and I had a programmer friend make the site.

    13) What gurantee do you offer that you would transfer the site to my host account and it will be functioning properly exactly like before the transfer?

We'll have to dicuss the transfer. Like I said, I won't be doing the transfer myself, I know people who could do the transfer. But it's a pretty safe thing to do. You make a complete backup of the site before hand and that makes it safe to do a transfer.

    14) Can I take over the specific adword and yahoo marketing accounts if they are separate from other ccounts by you passing UN and password instead of me creating one from scratch?

I believe it only is using my adsense on it. I can't transfer my account as I use it for all my other sites. I think it's against Google's terms also.

Your honest detailed response will be appreciated before I can bid

    Thanks for the questions.

Yes, there are. Here's a couple examples:

    http://www.blogsrater.com/top.php

    http://www.blogsrater.com/blog-review-27.html

The site at one time had a PR6 with hundreds of PR5 pages. As I said we made the mistake of adding paid text link ads from linkworth and TLAs. Those have been removed.
