Description
Due to a glitch in the Sitepoint Marketplace, I am having to relist my wonderful blog. I want to thank the Sitepoint team for phenomenal customer service, and getting this resolved very quickly. On to the details...
OneMansGoal.com is fast growing authoritative blog about blogging, internet marketing and making money online. The site has shown steady growth and produced a steady stream of income, bringing in an average of $1,150 per month in 2008!
The biggest question will no doubt be "Why are you selling" and although it's a popular answer, I have a new project that I would like to invest the funds into. I'd love to be able to keep the site as well as work on the new project but working full-time on other projects won't allow for that, if there were only more hours in the day!
Stats and Rankings:
- Traffic: Between 15k-20k unique visitors per month
- PageRank: PR 4
- Alexa: 80k
- Technorati: 15k ranking
- RSS Readership: I have Feedburner and Aweber subscribers that total a bit over 700 (and receive weekly newsletters)
- Over 12k backlinks from other sites (according to Yahoo)
- 230 posts and 3,435 comments published
- #53 on 45n5.com's Top 100 Make Money Online blogs
I publish posts once a day during the week for a total of 5 posts a week. There are several regular features established to help guide the posting if needed. Total time spent per week on the site is less than 10 hours (when I wrote the content). I also have a total of 3 paid writers, and 2 unpaid contributors. The paid writers would surely stick around, and they are paid $7.50 a post, for a cumulative total of about $200 a month in total content. Or you could handle all the content yourself for free. Since I've hired the writers, I spend about 2 hours per week on the site. They do most of the work, including stumbling and digging their own posts, and that of anyone else who writes for the site.
The One Man's Goal brand has been very well established in the "Make Money Online" niche. The site has been featured on Problogger.net, JohnChow.com, Entrepreneurs-Journey.com and many, many more. The site also enjoys several top 10 rankings in Google for popular terms, some of which are listed in screenshots to the right.
The site has a completely custom design, and it's based on the $250 Wordpress Dream Theme by Ben Cope. It also has a well designed landing page for the opt-in Ebook that comes with the site, Bigshot Blogging. The landing page is beautifully designed, and funnels people right through to the free ebook, and then after the download asks three questions pertaining to what you would like to accomplish with your blog (make more money, get more traffic, etc.), and whichever of the three you select, will send you to an affiliate landing page. It's a great system, and it's netted me quite a bit in extra affiliate cash.
The blog is a great site and has provided a consistent income for me. It hasn't made less than $1,000 per month since November of 2007. As mentioned previously, it also comes with my free Ebook, Bigshot Blogging... and from comments, I've been told that it's the best looking ebook on the market. I paid for it to be professionally designed, and compiled, and it looks absolutely beautiful. Not to mention the great content, that is chock-full of affiliate links. You will get full rights to the ebook, and you can rebrand, repurpose, or leave it like it is. I would recommend selling it for a small sum of $17 or so, to further monetize it. I was using it to build a list, but I think it could be repurposed for some extra cash.
As mentioned in the title, it also includes a forum that I started about two weeks ago as a bonus to my newsletter subscribers. I haven't made it available to my blog readers yet, but I had plans to do so in the future after my "soft launch" with my newsletter subscribers. It's not an income producer, it's brand new and it only has about 50 members, but it's been a great bonus for my newsletter subscribers. I've been using it as a place for them to stumble each others posts.
Revenue Details
Most of the revenue for One Man's Goal comes from affiliate marketing. About 25% of the affiliate revenue comes from the funnel system of giving the ebook away for free. Whether it be a click within the ebook, or a click on one of the three options after downloading the ebook, it's been a great revenue booster.
Revenue also comes from a steady stream of direct advertisers. I'm almost 100% positive that they would renew with the new owner, as the rates are reasonable, and they seem to be happy with the results. Advertising rates vary between $25 and $50 depending on whether it's a banner, or text link. Some advertisers get cheaper rates than others based on long-term renewals, and traded services... but you are free to charge what you want, and all ad renewals will be due on April 15th, but they usually pay early!
Traffic Details
I've included screenshots with referring traffic statistics, and referring sites. I've also included some of the keyword data, but I'll break it down further for you here.
The site has a very loyal readerbase, and you'll see a lot of the same names in the comment field if you go through them. These people are the livelihood of the site, and they are fantastic.
One Man's Goal also gets a lot of social bookmarking traffic. StumbleUpon is by far the best, but it gets plenty of traffic from Digg and Del.icio.us as well.
One of the things that I'm most proud of is that search engine traffic has been growing exponentially. It's a wonderful sign that the site will start generating a lot of passive traffic as time goes on.

I don't have an exact BIN in mind, but I'm open to the idea of closing the auction early if I get the right offer. Sites like this generally go for 9-15x monthly income, so if you have a fair offer in mind, I'm willing to listen.

Is this a different listing than the one I was looking at yesterday for this site? Not sure what happened there.

It's the same blog, but the listing was messed up. The new marketplace is kinda glitchy I suppose, so support allowed me to relist. For some reason, it had the BIN set at 15k, and I didn't set a BIN. Also, comments kept getting removed automatically, so I had to answer questions that others couldn't even see (because the comment that asked it had been deleted). I didn't want a screwed up auction, so I contacted them, they relisted it... and here we are. Props to Sitepoint customer service!

Sorry, I just reread the listing and noticed that, came down here to delete my post but since it is already answered, let's leave it there.
Couple questions.
The revenue that you make from affiliate marketing (i.e. the links people can click) is that in addition to what you are claiming as revenue or part of it?
The list of people that have given their email addresses in order to get the ebook - are they included too?

Jonkcs - It's not in addition to the income that I've listed. It's included. It's definitely helped my affiliate commissions go up, and now affiliate programs are my #1 cash source. I used to rely on direct advertising and blog reviews, and I haven't done a blog review in ages.
The email list is included, and it's part of the 700 subscribers that I have listed. The actual RSS number is bigger, but I switched to feedburner a few months ago, and therefore, my subscriber count is lower since it's a new feed. The old feed still exists, but I have no way to track it... therefore I didn't claim those numbers, since I have no clue how many their are. The breakdown is 278 Feedburner Subscribers, and 464 Aweber subscribers. They both get a weekly newsletter with my posts for the week, so there isn't much difference between whether you are an RSS or a Newsletter subscriber now that you can integrate your Feedburner and Aweber accounts (which is why I switched to feedburner).
The actual subscriber number is probably well over 1,000. But since I don't know how many people are subscribed to the "old" feed, I have no clue, therefore I'll stick with the 700 that I can prove.

Why do the amounts of each payment vary by so much?

Thanks, that very clearly answers both my questions.

Adrizzl - I'm not sure what you mean. The big payments are affiliate payments, and they vary greatly from month to month. Anything from $25-$50 is advertising revenue. Anything bigger is an affiliate payment, and I use a ton of affiliate programs. I'll clue the new owner in to what has worked for me, and what hasn't, to help them on their way.

I'm not going to put a time span on this, I'll always be available to answer questions, and/or share tips. I'll make sure the new owner gets my email, and business phone number, so that they can take comfort in knowing that I'll try to help after the sale as much as I can. As far as writing and stuff, I'll pay the writers until the end of their month (mid-April) to ease the transition period.

Can I ask what happened to the auction last year when it was sold for $8,500? And how has the site performed since then in traffic terms, rather than revenue.

Saloschin - Just to tell the story, I'm the original owner of the site, but I did sell it previously. After selling it, I got a sort of "buyers remorse" and decided that I'd like to try to buy it back... the new owner was cool with it, so I did.
Now, on to your question... After selling it, traffic dipped for about a month, but I'm not sure if that is due to selling it, or the fact that I started posting less frequently. The lack of posting frequency is actually what led me to hire writers. It worked out well, and now the site is back on track, and earning more than ever. And as you can see, the traffic is trending upwards, as is the income.

Thanks for the answers. I know that you're selling as you are busy, but would you be prepared to stay on in some capacity for a certain time?

Saloschin - Although I don't think it'll be necessary, I'm sure we can negotiate something. I've tried to distance myself from the blog and make it less personal by hiring outside writers. I haven't written an article for the blog in a couple of weeks and the traffic is still moving upwards. But yes, I'm open to negotiating something that will keep me around in some capacity.

No problem saloschin. Like I said though, I really wouldn't mind sticking around. This blog will always mean a lot to me, so the success of the new owner is very important to me.

3 weeks after selling it. And I rejected your bid. Bidding $1 more than the next guy won't cut it.

Nice site. First off which affiliate marketer(s) are you going through? Where there ever or currently any reseller rights with the ebook? Finally what are your total expenses per month. Thanks in advance.

Are you including the domain: bigshotblogging.com in the sale?

I use the main sites for affiliate marketing - Commission Junction, Clickbank, Paydotcom, Linkshare and I use a ton of other ones that aren't part of these groups. I'll be sure to fill the buyer in on what works.
The book is 100% copyrighted by me, and there were never any reseller rights given out, nor were others allowed to give it away free. All sign-ups had to be through my opt-in.
My monthly expenses are $7 in hosting, and about $200 for the 3 writers cumulative salaries. So $207 total. Of course you have the option to save $200 by not outsourcing the content, but it sure does make it easy.

Your big shot blogging book implies that you are making 7k a month blogging. This is obviously your flagship blog yet you claim 1392 to be the best month ever with an average month of 1150?
I am not trying to be a jerk but your claims don't seem to match your stats listed here?

Hammer, I don't want to speak for the seller but saying you make 7k a month blogging doesn't mean you're making it all from one blog. I know my blogging income was distributed across three different blogs and a few other small sites.

Skitzzo is right on the money. The 7k I claimed when I made the book came from several sources (all relating to blogging). The best month for One Man's Goal was $1,392, but that's just one of several blogging projects I have going.

Hi Bryan, thank you for answering my previous questions. I have just a couple more for now...
What promoting of the blog have you engaged in in 2008?
How many emails do you receive each day/week in response to your offer on page 10 of the ebook... you'll be able to email me anytime, and i'll help you in any way?
Many thanks

The only promotion I did in 2008 was asking people to blog about my ebook. I sent out an early newsletter asking people to spread the word. It didn't help much, but it got me a few links and probably a few extra downloads.
As far as the offer on the front page of the ebook... out of the 450+ downloads, I may have received 10 emails. And none of them asked questions, they were all to compliment me on the ebook and/or the design of the ebook.
