Description

KillerChops.tv Shows streaming videos of accomplished musicians. It's a website directed at other musicians and people interested in seeing top-notch musicianship skills.

The site gets posted on social bookmarking sites a lot because of its content.

Videos are streamed directly from youtube.

The site is based on a purchased script, and has had many modifications. It includes a complete back-end system for posting new videos, searching users, etc.

The site has been running since November and immediately made it to the front page of Digg (hence the immediate spike in traffic). It gets constant traffic from other sites like stumbleupon and also a lot of direct traffic. The nice thing is that each video on it's own can get on the bookmarking sites, not just the front page, so it can appear again & again...

The site has also appeared on the homepage of maxim magazine online.

I have not put any money into marketing whatsoever, and I imagine that you would be able to increase traffic quite a bit with a proper marketing campaign.

It ranks very well in search engines.. for example in Google:

Keywords: Videos of Musicians = #3 out of 1.5 million
Keywords: Videos for Musicians = #2 out of 1.7 million
Keywords: Insane guitar solo = #7 out of 201,000
...there are many examples.

I haven't really spent the time trying to monetize it, but I do have one person paying me $100/month for advertising, which in retrospect was too cheap. There are many places that you could put ads, I just haven't spent the time trying to sell ads.

Traffic in the last 30 days has been:
77,712 visits
133,838 pageviews

Traffic in the last 65 days has been:
202,644 visits
348,582 pageviews

(note that traffic is not going down, it's going up. The discrepancy showing higher traffic at the beginning is due to 900+diggs in one day)

Traffic goes up & down quite a bit daily depending on incoming traffic from referring sites. I'm sure with some work the traffic could be increase.

Also, I have spent close to no time adding new videos since I set it up (I've got around 600 up there now). To add a video is quite easy, simply type in the youtube ID & a description. I would recommend adding at least a video or 2 each day to help build traffic, I just haven't had the time. Also, you would focus on adding videos that would make it onto digg, etc.

I will also give the following domains with the auction:

killerchops.net
killerchops.info
killerchops.org

Indexing:

Google: indexed 352 pages of the site
Yahoo: indexed 190 pages of the site

Backlinks:
Google: Too soon to tell, google is not showing the backlinks yet, but If i do a search for "www.killerchops.tv", I see 2810 results in the total

Yahoo: shows total 1784 backlinks to the entire site

Initial pagerank is 3 (just got ranked last week), but I'm suspecting that will go up as google finds all the backlinks.

Hosting is $11.95 per month (network solutions)... no other costs.

Alexa is 163,000

other than banner advertising, have you tried adsense or others?

and how many members do have? and how to get a good source of videos? It's quite a lot of work to manually browse through all music videos uploaded to youtube and find a good one.

    Oh, I forgot to mention:

I have set up a forum using phpbb, it's just up with no traffic or posts or anything. Buyer can keep it or take it down.

Also, the site is all in PHP and MySQL.

Yes I tried adsense on & off just to see what it would bring in. I got mixed results & figured that going after websites with overlapping demographics would work much better (ie learn to play guitar, etc). I started it up halfway through a big traffic day & made $14 or so (probably would have been around $30 based on extrapolation if I had run it for the full day). Some days are good, Some days are close to zero.

I've uploaded a screenshot of some adsense days that I had it running. I decided that I didn't want to run adsense anymore & focus on building the site & traffic & then go after some real advertisers, because it's such a niche site.

I've also uploaded a screenshot of what the adsense ads look like.

I have not tried any banner advertising at all. The only ad I have running is the text link under the video, and they have paid me $100 for the month.

There are only 83 members, but there is currently no incentive for members to join other than posting comments. 99.9% of the traffic is people wanting to watch the videos. I was planning on setting it up so members can suggest videos. At the moment, membership is inconsequential to the site.

Finding videos is VERY easy actually. You just search around on youtube and you can find more appropriate videos that you could ever post. This was never a problem. Also, there are a ton of musicians forums out there with threads about youtube videos... you can just go through those & post all the videos that people talk about. There is an endless supply of good videos.

if i understood social bookmarks is your main source of traffic? the site has strong brand name? i see that there is some direct traffic?

any links from other sites that bring you traffic?

where did you start the site?

I know about this script you have on the site, it's pretty cool.

In what way has the script been modified?

What kind of license did you get for it?

Did you buy the right to remove the copyright link?

You're right, it's hard to tell by the graph. Here are the daily pageviews from the last 30 days as per google analytics:

    Jan 21 2,046
    Jan 22 987
    Jan 23 1,036
    Jan 24 351 (today)

Traffic seems to go up & down a lot. The last few days have been low.

    >if i understood social bookmarks is your main source of traffic? the site has strong brand name? i see that there is some direct >traffic?

Social bookmarks do seem to drive a lot of the traffic. Google does indicate a lot of direct traffic, but it's always tough to determine what that actually means. Taken at face value, it would show people who simply typed in the domain name, but I've always suspected that sometimes it just doesn't pick up the referrer.

A note on the social bookmarks: I did have a problem with digg accepting submissions form the domain at one point, and started using killerchops.net (instead of .tv) to submit to digg, which seems to work fine (and goes directly to killerchops.tv).

    >any links from other sites that bring you traffic?

I just added a screenshot of the referrals. You'll see that the time on site (over 1 min) is pretty good for 'direct'. Talkbass is a bass players forum that I belong to (the site is in my signature, I'll probably take it out when I sell the site). I would recommend to the buyer to start posting in all the musicians forums (without spamming!) and put the url in your signature. It seems to work well.

After looking at the referral list, I do remember that I *did* market the site *very* minimally - I signed up with adwords & they gave me a $50 credit, and used some of the ads for this site & some of the ads for other sites I run. I can't rememebr how much was actually spent on killerchops.tv, probably $20 or so.

    >where did you start the site?

if you mean *when* did I start the site, I started it in november.

    >In what way has the script been modified?

I have modified it in a few ways. Off the top of my head:
    - the ability to search for up to 100 yahoo videos at a time
    - added place for ad code
    - added forums
    - added social bookmarking submit links
    - made the feedback form work with network solutions properly
    - added the ability to add blog-style descriptions to videos by directly editing the database, for example on this one:
    http://www.killerchops.tv/musicvideo.php?vid=6c93c8cd4

note: this change is recent, and there only a few videos with descriptions like this. The whole reason that this was to add value to the video so digg users would not get upset and accuse it of video splogging. Basically, the idea is to add a good description & some links to any video that you decide to actively promote. I think in the end it makes for a more valuable site if some descriptions and further information is put up for some videos like this.

I can also help with changes on the script.... I would work this out directly with the buyer.

    >What kind of license did you get for it?
    >Did you buy the right to remove the copyright link?

I paid for it. Not sure what you mean about the copyright link? Maybe message me with more info.

    Regarding this item:

    >>What kind of license did you get for it?
    >>Did you buy the right to remove the copyright link?

I looked into this, and yes, I had purchased the right to remove the copyright link. It's a full license for the scripts. The rest of the modifications were done by myself, and are copyright free.

Well, cool concept, even though My personal beilef as an "Accomplished musician" is that it'd take some work to get a good throw-off.

But then again, being personally interested in the niche for obvious reasons, I like it. Pulling this kind of narrow field of videos really suites the domains. And with a gigantic design overhaul it might even be good looking in the end.

Just out of couriosity: Did you build the site out of personal interest, or just as a plain business opportunity?
Also, have you done a decent job documenting you alterations to the script, for easy identification for future code work?

    thanks.

    >But then again, being personally interested in the niche for obvious reasons, I like it. Pulling this kind of narrow >field of videos really suites the domains.

I think that whomever takes it over would have an advantage if they themselves were a musician (as I am). It would make finding relevant videos easier, and it would be more interesting keeping it up-to-date.

    >And with a gigantic design overhaul it might even be good looking in the end.

    haha. :)

    >Just out of couriosity: Did you build the site out of personal interest, or just as a plain business opportunity?
    >Also, have you done a decent job documenting you alterations to the script, for easy identification for future code work?

I'm a musician, and I started it because there are so many musicians forums out there with threads about videos & links to them. I thought it would be really nice to have them all in one place. I've noticed that people are enjoying it because the average time-on-site is actually quite good.... I never had the intention of selling it, but I literally have no time (I run a pretty major international b2b website with 600,000 members, plus a bunch of consulting work) to put towards it, and I think it's got potential. I figured that someone could pick up the ball with it and get it rolling.

A lot of the traffic comes from social bookmarking and musicians forums - I put the link in my signature & post a lot, I also submit the really good videos to social bookmark sites & send it out to my friend list. The really nice thing is that if yo pick the right videos they seem to go viral fairly well... The downside is that I've found it does require some work - I haven't touched the site or done any posting or anything in the last couple of weeks & the traffic has taken a major nosedive. If you keep adding videos & do some minor networking on it, it should keep up the traffic & likely grw as it gains som more traction (it's still a very young site).

I should also mention that in the next few days I'm going to be adding (script based) tab database to the site with 150,000+ tabs. t will be seperate from the site's code & will likely be at tabs.KillerChops.tv. This should help with the sites traffic as well I imagine, especially if some SEO work is done on it

Hi - I'm not sure which question you are referring to?

Someone asked if I bought a lic. for the script that allows me to remove the copyright notices, and yes I did pay for it.
    Is that what you mean?
