Featured Listing: eCommerce Business that Specializes in Trading Cards and Sports Memorabilia

About the business

Tell us a little about yourself. What’s your background? How did you start the business?

My name is Mark Ramos I’m 34 and have a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I launched this website and business while I was recovering from a bad car accident. There wasn’t physically much I could do while relearning to walk with a broken hand, wrist, and shoulder. Bills were piling up, so I decided to sell my childhood Pokémon card collection on eBay, it helped pay bills and gain capital to build this business to what it is today.

As an eCommerce business, where are your products made?

My products are packaged at home.

What can you tell us about your Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) and Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC)

My CLV is great, we have very relationships with a lot of our customers. Some are returning and others show interest when we launch new products or auctions. Our CAC is roughly $150 per month,

How have you marketed the product and where are your customers originating from?

We’ve used Ebay’s promoted listing feature and CPC ads, Hibid’s promoted auction feature, Etsy’s promoted listing feature, Facebook ads, Tik Tok ads as well as google ads for a short time.

Is the asset on your listing owner-operated, how much time does it take to run the business, who else is needed on the team, and what is automated?

This asset is owner-operated, it takes about 2-4 hours per week for maintenance and packing/shipping. It’s a very easy process that can be automated, but you’d need to hire an admin to run the 4 sales channels and someone to fulfill orders and ship.

What does someone need to do to continue operating the business in its current form?

The new owner would simply need to continue our current operation schedule and execute the same strategy that has provided success up to this current point. The new owner will receive after-sales support, so he/she has a good understanding of how to maintain and elevate this business.

Growing the business

Can you list a few opportunities for a potential new owner to continue growing the business?

This website & brand has a TON of potential. The new owner will be able to continue to keep growing this business just by continuing operations as they are. They will also be able to expand the Mystery Boom Box brand by adding new Mystery boxes such as MLB, NFL, Magic, and Yu-Gi-Oh cards to the showcase. Moreover, the new owner can also implement live box breaks and raffles for customers that would rather pay for a share of the new product instead of paying full price for an entire case or box of a new release – there really is a lot to explore here.

What has been the evolution of this asset since its launch?

It has really evolved drastically over time; we started out just selling single cards and grossing $800-$1500 a month. Every month income, as well as products, have been expanding, at this point, we have our own factory-sealed product that receives sponsorship offers.

How does this business make money? What are the current revenue streams?

The website makes most of its revenue selling single trading cards, as well as our signature Mystery Boom Boxes. Our cost to have them created, and packed with cards which sometimes includes random factory-sealed packs, graded singles and Boom cards costs us on average $7.25; once packed with its content we factory seal the box and ship using our branded shipping boxes. The cost on average to send one package with our Shopify or eBay discount is $3.67-3.87. The profit if purchased from our Shopify store is roughly $81 per box.

What marketing channels are most profitable for the business?

Ebay’s promoted listing feature and CPC ads and Hibid’s paid promoted auction feature are the most profitable channels as far as income and customer acquisition.

How does the business currently acquire customers and what is your breakdown for marketing costs?

This business currently acquires customers from our 4 sales channels: eBay, Etsy, Hibid, and Shopify. Operating on all 4 simultaneously gives us the leverage we need to be seen. On multiple platforms, this increases customer interest, the probability of acquiring a new customer, and marking a sale. Currently, our marketing budget can greatly be increased, but our present budget ranges between $40-$100 p/m.

How big is your current team? How many people does it take to run this business?

1

What’s the reason for selling your business on Flippa?

This business is being sold so I can put more time, effort, and money into my next endeavor. Lastly, this business has taken on a life of its own, and I want to watch it continue to grow under a new owner.
