What’s your background? How did you start with this project?

I am 23 years old and this is my very first business. It has always been my goal to escape a regular 9-5 job and I am finally able to work for myself after starting this store. I started Chop Shop Cutlery when the pandemic started because I knew people would be inclined to start cooking their own meals with nothing else to do in quarantine, and as takeout and fast food places started closing.

Where are the products made? What is the shipment time? How are you handling any returns?

The products are manufactured in China.
The shipment time is around 7-14 business days on average.

The way I handle returns is by providing a refund and usually just letting them keep the knives. This helps with good customer service reviews and keeps my costs down. Sometimes with big orders I have them return the knives to my P.O. Box

How have you marketed the product and where are your customers originating from?

I have marketed my top selling knife as a very tough, long lasting, durable knife. It can practically replace most knives you would find in a kitchen and I have also marketed it as an “all in one” type of knife.

My customers originate from Facebook ads and thats the only platform I have ran any ads on from the start. I have been running $450 daily on Facebook with a ROAS being 2.35

Is your traffic 100% paid or are you achieving organic success?

My traffic is mostly paid traffic from Facebook, but I have been getting some sales even after stopping my ad campaigns.

Can you list a few opportunities for a potential new owner to continue growing the business?

I think this business has a lot of room for growth. Adding more products, such as new knives or accessories such as sheaths for the knives, cutting boards, and wetstones for sharpening just to name a few. This would make for a better bundle sale and I have had many customers ask me about all of these products.

Also, utilizing other advertising avenues on top of Facebook, such as Google ads and influencer marketing would be perfect for this business.
