Tell us a little about yourself. What’s your background? How did you start the business?

I was a product manager at Zynga. I used that experience to get into FB marketing. I found the BlackFoxOutdoors.com website up for sale and along with several other e-commerce sites, I tested my FB ads, which turned out to be a great way to advertise this niche.

As an e-Commerce business, where are your products made?

Most of our products are made in China.

How have you marketed the product and where are your customers originating from?

We primarily use FB ads and email marketing. We have a mailing list of over 9500 that we send regular emails to.

Is the asset on your listing owner-operated, how much time does it take to run the business, who else is needed on the team, and what is automated?

It was totally owner operated until 1/1/2021. After that, we outsourced logistics and customer service so I could focus on our more successful sites. Emails are automated and FB ads have only had minor spend adjustments this year, using the original ads.

What does someone need to do to continue operating the business in its current form?

To keep operating BlackFoxOutdoors as it stands now doesn’t require much. Introduction to the CS person and logistics company and you’re set. If you wanted to take over CS and logistics personally to save on costs, you would need to have the inventory shipped to your location and get a basic understanding of zendesk (our CS software) or migrate to the CS software of your choice. Considering how little CS there is, you could probably operate at current levels with a simple email account.

Can you list a few opportunities for a potential new owner to continue growing the business?

The biggest opportunity is with the FaceBook ads since they haven’t been adjusted or modified in a very long time. Simply adjusting up the ad spend during BlackFriday week will give you a huge boost in sales, as you can see from our sales history. Also, there is a large “prepper” movement in light of the current events that are adjacent to this niche. I think migrating or appealing to that niche is a huge opportunity, especially if you have some knowledge of it. We also have almost no social media presence and no SEO, so if you are knowledgeable in those areas, you could also see a big boost.

What has been the evolution of this asset since its launch?

I purchased Blackfoxoutdoors.com with very low traffic and only basic Pinterest posts and organic traffic. After introducing basic FB ads, sales have increased steadily since 2019. We found out that the ads can perform exceptionally well during the Q4 season, especially around Black Friday week.

How does this business make money? What are the current revenue streams?

Nearly all of the revenue comes from our Shopify site. We had a small Kickstarter last month to launch a new product that had moderate success.

What marketing channels are most profitable for the business?

Our email list costs very little to maintain and has a very high ROI. The FB ads bring in the most revenue. It’s possible that more frequent emailing, especially if you decide to introduce new products could be very profitable.

How does the business currently acquire customers and what is your breakdown for marketing costs?

We primarily use FB ads and our email list. We spent about $220 last month on FB ads with sales of $744.47. We have been cutting back on ad spend to keep our ROI high and costs low since we have been focusing on our other sites.

How big is your current team? How many people does it take to run this business?

We have 1 CS agent who splits time among 6 different projects including this one. We have one logistics manager who also splits her time among other projects, all of which are significantly larger than BlackFox.

What’s the reason for selling your business on Flippa?

We are paring down our assets to focus on our bigger winners. We don’t have any special knowledge in this niche, so someone who does would be much more suited to growing BlackFox.
