Featured Listing: Shopify Store Selling Male and Female Fashion Watch

About the business

Tell us a little about yourself. What’s your background? How did you start the business?

I’m always on the lookout for opportunities. Life is short and 20-30 is the prime time to acquire skills that would contribute greatly to achieving one’s goals. To me, that’s achieving financial freedom. Inspired by luxurious brands, I’ve decided to tap into the fashion market in Malaysia. Purchasing power in Malaysia is relatively weaker compared to the big 4 E-commerce dominated countries like the USA, UK, Canada, and Australia. Not everyone can afford luxury goods. I’ve set up the business with the aim of disrupting overpriced goods by providing top-quality products at radically fair prices. I started the business with my own capital. I then hired competent marketers and photographers, learned from them, and began running advertisements on my own thereafter.

As an eCommerce business, where are your products made?

All products are sourced from one of the largest product manufacturing companies, Alibaba.

What can you tell us about your Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) and Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC)

CAC was performing slightly above average when we first started. It improved when we scaled with better-performing creatives. Both CAC and CLV performance skyrocketed when we began setting up email campaigns with Klaviyo and SMS, we were seeing many repeat orders from old customers. Some customers were so satisfied, that they bought on an average of 5-7x from us while referring to friends or family.

How have you marketed the product and where are your customers originating from?

Facebook has been our main marketing tool. We emulated creatives that were proven to work based on other successful business case studies and scaled from there. Customers were mainly from Malaysia as that is where we were operating.

Is the asset on your listing owner-operated, how much time does it take to run the business, who else is needed on the team, and what is automated?

The time needed to work on the business drastically decreases once the foundations are set up. The most challenging part is starting everything from scratch, applying for a business license, setting up payment gateways, designing the website, sourcing products, and contacting suppliers. Learning the art of digital marketing consumed many hours in the beginning. The hard part is gone, the only thing I need to do to sustain the business is to constantly create new ads to test and scale, as well as manage the social media account + fulfil orders. The foundation has been set up hence, almost everything else is automated. I would recommend hiring competent experts from Fiverr to do the required activities mentioned above.

What does someone need to do to continue operating the business in its current form?

Split testing Facebook ads by generating new creatives on a weekly basis to improve conversion rates. Work on the retargeting campaigns through email marketing and split testing them as well. Creating engaging content on the Instagram page. For fulfilling orders, is best if you can get a warehouse that does the shipping for you.

Growing the business

Can you list a few opportunities for a potential new owner to continue growing the business?

There are many opportunities to grow this business by expanding the content, improving the SEO, and growing the social media following. This is a great business for someone looking for a simple-to-run website with high-profit margins. I would suggest also reaching out to social media influencers as ambassadors for the business.

What has been the evolution of this asset since its launch?

We’ve seen an 8x growth in revenue since the beginning of the business. Due to the huge growth in revenue, we’ve expanded our market by producing products with different designs that were targeted at different niches.

How does this business make money? What are the current revenue streams?

Our capital was roughly 2.5k USD. Profits after expenses were approximately 13k USD. Profits per were average of 1k USD/month. 80% of revenue was through social media marketing, 15% email marketing, and 5% organic. This business is running completely online, hence it makes its money through its e-commerce website article-timepieces.com

What marketing channels are most profitable for the business?

Social Media, Facebook to be specific, which includes Instagram as well.

How does the business currently acquire customers and what is your breakdown for marketing costs?

We acquire customers’ emails through email lists from website pop-ups. Marketing costs on average are 200usd/month. With profits of 1k USD/month, that brings us a 5.0 ROAS which is above average when compared to similar businesses in the market.

How big is your current team? How many people does it take to run this business?

I’m currently doing this myself. I only hired temporary experts from Fiverr to work under me sometimes, but it is totally manageable alone unless one plans to expand to multiple countries and do international shipments. Currently, I spend very little time per week on this business.
It’s currently gliding along on auto-pilot after dedicating a lot of work on the initial launch. More time spent on marketing could surely increase the revenue & profits.

What’s the reason for selling your business on Flippa?

I don’t have the time to run this business anymore as I’ve other priorities to handle and would like someone to take over this gem. I’ve learned everything I can in this business and there’s minimal room for personal growth apart from making money. If it is not sold it will continue to run as normal while generating even more revenue. Business price would be more expensive by then if it were to be sold again.
