Tell us a little about yourself. What’s your background? How did you start the business?

Hi, I am Akshay. I am an engineer and a tech enthusiast. I started my journey in digital marketing journey 3 years ago. in 2018, I started my first blog in the electric vehicle niche. I always wanted to learn to code. I searched for various online courses and read their reviews. In this process, I realised there isn’t any platform that helps you to discover, choose and review online courses. Later in 2019, I started OnlineCoursieng.com to help online learning aspirants with course reviews.

How have you marketed the product and where are your customers originating from?

Over 80% of our traffic comes from organic search.

Is the asset on your listing owner-operated, how much time does it take to run the business, who else is needed on the team, and what is automated?

Yes, it’s owner-operated. I spend at least 40-50 hours/week on this website. I write most of the content and update all the blog posts. Though I had few interns in the past, with a team of 3-4, this business can be easily automated.

What does someone need to do to continue operating the business in its current form?

Get more affiliate partners on board and write reviews of their courses.

Growing the business

Can you list a few opportunities for a potential new owner to continue growing the business?

  1. New owner can make more affiliate partnerships with online course platforms (there are more than 1000+ courses in USA alone)
  2. Currently we have partnered with only online courses that offer commission of $50-$250/course ( eg.Udemy,Udacity etc). New owner can also work with coding bootcamps that offer higher commissions of $500-$1000/course (eg.Lambda School)
  3. A revenue model can also be made to charge online course platforms to be highlighted on the homepage.
  4. A ton of articles can be written on suggesting students ‘the best online courses for a subject'(eg.best data science courses online 2022). Hence increasing the affiliate revenue.
  5. Online course platforms are also ready to pay for sponsored posts.

What has been the evolution of this asset since its launch?

Since its launch, we have partnered with 20+ online course platforms and attracted traffic of around 10k/month.

How does this business make money? What are the current revenue streams?

Since we have affiliate partnerships with online course providers, we earn a commission after every sale we make. We haven’t explored running ads and other revenue streams. This can be a good opportunity to increase revenue.

What marketing channels are most profitable for the business?

LinkedIn, Reddit and Quora.

How big is your current team? How many people does it take to run this business?

Currently, it’s just me operating this business. In order to scale faster, the new owner can hire one content manager and a few content writers.
