About the business

Tell us a little about yourself. What’s your background? How did you start the business?

My day job is in finance (financial planning and analysis. I am generally good with analytics and databases. Together with a developer friend of mine, I started this app business.

As an eCommerce business, where are your products made?

There are no products sold. The business model is an app that as of to date makes money through subscriptions. Ads revenue is an option.

What can you tell us about your Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) and Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC)

CAC are around 0.2 to 0.3€. CLV is not yet to tell as users would commit to a longtime subscription (the majority of subscriptions were 12-months subscriptions). Idea is to create an outstanding CLV by high customer bonding as the app will become a necessity for the user. The more time the user spends in the app and leaves information in it, the app increases in value to the user (building a digital memory and personal planner).

How have you marketed the product and where are your customers originating from?

The app was mostly marketed with motivational notions in Facebook ads. Also, through the Facebook page, Work-Life Organised.
It is marketed as digital memory in a time of information overflow and over-stimulation. An app is a place where users can collect themselves and focus on what is important for them and reflect on that in Goals, Projects, Thoughts (and other app features).
The app also offers a Chat and Forum which could be pushed to create more USP and variations. Users can exchange helpful tips in life or just discuss random things.
It has been marketed globally as everyone is a potential customer/user.
The main customer/user groups are the USA, UK and India.

Is the asset on your listing owner-operated, how much time does it take to run the business, who else is needed on the team, and what is automated?

Owner-operated. The app does not need any technical support. Owner’s responsibility to drive the business.

What does someone need to do to continue operating the business in its current form?

No special requirements. Should be motivated and savvy to drive up business through e.g. marketing campaigns.

Growing the business

Can you list a few opportunities for a potential new owner to continue growing the business?

  • Invest in marketing campaigns to drive up traffic. Users have generally good engagement rates with substantial activities of the majority of installs (>50%). Should eventually drive up organic/sustainable growth
  • Engage with users, e.g. cloud messaging (app notifications), write posts on Facebook, ask users for feedback, contact users with high activity counts, start e-mailing to users for news
  • Build brand (FB, Instagram) and serve users with motivational videos or any tips and lifehacks

What has been the evolution of this asset since its launch?

The app came a long way as it is rather complex with a big database due to various features in-app where users can save the information and activate reminders.
It has proved now to be bug-free and running smoothly.
User engagement rate has gone up from initially around 30% and now up to 50%-60% in the latest months.
App gives users a lot of free activities before prompting them to subscribe. Subscriptions are speeding up with two subscriptions in the last two days (26.12+27.12 total of 13€).
The app is not focusing on subscriptions right now but rather attracting users and keeping on users for a longer time.

How does this business make money? What are the current revenue streams?

Subscriptions. Ads revenue could be a good option.

What marketing channels are most profitable for the business?

Facebook. Play Store and Apple App store should be next.

How does the business currently acquire customers and what is your breakdown for marketing costs?

Organically the app gains between 20 to 40 users a day. This can be pushed quickly through marketing tools. It tends around 0.2€ to 0.3€ to acquire new users.

How big is your current team? How many people does it take to run this business?

Two main people. Owner and developer. The owner is enough to run the business.
