About the business
Tell us a little about yourself. What’s your background? How did you start the business?
Aura was started after seeing customer demand online for ceramic grill accessories. There are not a lot of fairly priced, well-built BBQ accessories. As a BBQ grill dealer in another business, we got to see first-hand what customers wanted. We then developed products to meet that demand.
As an eCommerce business, where are your products made?
We have our products manufactured in Asia and in Rhode Island.
How have you marketed the product and where are your customers originating from?
Most of our customers come from organic searches and word of mouth. We run some light Adwords and Amazon advertising.
Is the asset on your listing owner-operated, how much time does it take to run the business, who else is needed on the team, and what is automated?
Aura and Eggcellent are both operated by a single employee. Aura would benefit from a dedicated salesperson. With our current selling channels including Ace Hardware, a good salesperson could expand the business through wholesale.
What does someone need to do to continue operating the business in its current form?
An internet connection.
Growing the business
Can you list a few opportunities for a potential new owner to continue growing the business?
Expand on our Home Depot and Ace Hardware listings, both on dropship and wholesale.
What has been the evolution of this asset since its launch?
We originally were just a ceramic grill accessory brand but have added products for the Kettle Grill market and now our Cast Iron Grate for 22in Kettles is our most popular SKU.
How does this business make money? What are the current revenue streams?
Amazon, Shopify, eBay, Walmart, Home Depot, Ace Hardware.
What marketing channels are most profitable for the business?
Amazon ads.
How does the business currently acquire customers and what is your breakdown for marketing costs?
We try and capture through organic searches, marketing costs vary based on seasonality. Can vary from $500 to $2500 mostly.
How big is your current team? How many people does it take to run this business?
One person, adding even one more employee would have the potential to grow the business significantly.
