Tell us a little about yourself. What\u2019s your background? How did you start the business?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve been buying online businesses since 2010 (when the multiples were at 6 months profit on average!) as a profession, and currently, I’m running a portfolio of different businesses. The Etsy shop I’m selling, I started with a partner in 2018. I love digital products as a business model and one of my partners was very good at creating templates, and Etsy seemed like a good place to sell, so we launched the shop together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an eCommerce business<\/a>, where are your products made?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of the templates have been created by my partner, the Excel template was created by her husband and a few templates were created by our in-house design team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What can you tell us about your Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) and Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s hard to get these numbers from Etsy. Most purchases are one-off, as that’s the nature of selling digital products. Regarding the CAC, we use the Etsy advertising program and we rank well organically on Etsy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How have you marketed the product and where are your customers originating from?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We just market our products on Etsy, that’s the good thing about using a well-known platform with many customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is the asset on your listing owner-operated, how much time does it take to run the business, who else is needed on the team, and what is automated?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The only real task is answering support questions. My partner spends about 20 minutes per day on support (on weekends she usually doesn’t respond to support questions). The advertising is fully automated and bookkeeping as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What does someone need to do to continue operating the business in its current form?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can you list a few opportunities for a potential new owner to continue growing the business?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What I would do if I had more time is to take these superb digital products, create my own store and go hard on marketing. For some ideas, check out this story about Miss Excel (https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/22807858\/tiktok-influencer-microsoft-excel-instagram-decoder-podcast), who makes $200,000 a month selling Excel courses through Tik Tok. You could of course take this to other platforms besides Etsy and even license the products (a great opportunity if you ask me, but we had other priorities, so we didn’t pursue this) or make affiliate deals with influencers in the space like Miss Excel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another idea is to take sub-categories of the products and partner up with the right companies. Take the AirBnB templates for example. We were approached a while back by a big community for Airbnb hosts, who loved our templates and wanted to partner up on the templates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within the Etsy shop, there are also loads of opportunities like running sales, playing with pricing, working on Etsy SEO, and testing different preview images to increase CTR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What has been the evolution of this asset since its launch?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We started with Word templates and expanded to other categories like Excel templates and Powerpoint presentation templates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How does this business make money? What are the current revenue streams?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Digital product sales via Etsy, that’s the only income stream currently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What marketing channels are most profitable for the business?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this business it’s just my partner who runs it, no other people are needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s the reason for selling your business on Flippa?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are selling the business because my partner who runs the shop accepted a full-time job offer. She has a busy life with 2 kids and feels like she can’t keep all the balls in the air. Running the shop is not fully passive, as you will have to answer support questions. If you can find a good support person, this business can be very passive but you need someone who knows Excel, Word, and Powerpoint. We didn’t look for a support person because my partner starts her job soon and she rather has some cash in the bank now instead of finding and onboarding a support person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
