Tell us a little about yourself. What\u2019s your background? How did you start the business?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sure \ud83d\ude42 I’m Josiah. I grew up in the UK and from quite young I had early ambitions to join the Royal Air Force and went on to study Aerospace Engineering at Surrey University. I was super active in the Air Cadets where I went up the ranks in my teenage years and loved every aspect of camps, flying, shooting and adventure. However, I was soon diagnosed with an eye disease which scuffed all my RAF plans, so instead, I went into civil corporate engineering, which I hated. I wanted the freedom to travel, to challenge myself, and to do the things I loved doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting an online business was my ticket to that personal freedom. I started publishing on Amazon straight out of University in 2017. Things were working well straight out the gate but not going entirely to plan. I quickly got up to a gross profit of $500\/month within 6 months or so but then got my account banned after creating a series of manual books for Amazon (a dumb idea, I know. Turns out the word ‘Amazon’ is trademarked\u2026)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I started again, whilst teaching English and travelling the world, funding my lifestyle and my business. Again, my identity got linked to the new account and I was banned, again!. It was a terrible experience, but I didn’t quit. 3rd time lucky I hid my identity through a UK limited company and scaled my current business to the $150,000 valuation it is today, with no funding, making all the books myself on the back of covid. It’s been quite the journey, but grit and determination always pay off in the end!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What can you tell us about your Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) and Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I get my customers for free by Amazon search. I keep them buy advertising the next book in the series inside my books and through email marketing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How have you marketed the product and where are your customers originating from?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I market my products entirely through Amazon’s organic search algorithm (just like google SEO). My books outperform the competitors and collect hundreds of positive reviews, thus ranking even higher on Amazon’s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is the asset on your listing owner-operated, how much time does it take to run the business, who else is needed on the team, and what is automated?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maintaining my current portfolio of books takes no time at all, perhaps only a few hours a week to check Amazon ads (if you choose to run them). Otherwise, the amount of time you choose to spend publishing new books is up to the buyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What does someone need to do to continue operating the business in its current form?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can you list a few opportunities for a potential new owner to continue growing the business?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sky is the limit. You could grow the business by adding to the overall customer value. Sell online courses, physical products, further books in the series etc. You can also direct traffic to your own website or social media platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What has been the evolution of this asset since its launch?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Q4 2021 I grew the business rapidly by publishing more books. For the majority of 2021, I had only two books, with one making the majority of the sales (making me at least $1000 profit each month).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How does this business make money? What are the current revenue streams?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

100% passive Amazon book sales. I get a percentage of each book sold, which is fulfilled completely by Amazon. I get a cheque each month with the earned royalties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How big is your current team? How many people does it take to run this business?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just me. I hired a few freelancers here and there for graphic design tasks however I have done almost everything myself. I could have outsourced much more but I had no money at the time so I did everything as low cost as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s the reason for selling your business on Flippa?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To get enough capital to launch a new KDP business with a greater vision, a more impactful and valuable customer journey that goes beyond just Amazon KDP. I will not be continuing in the same niches and keywords as the business I am selling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
