What is YouGoDo?
YouGoDo is a global activities and experiences website in the growing leisure and travel market.
Neglected by its current owners for the past 5 years or so it needs development, SEO and marketing input to realize its $ multi million annual income potential (see below under 'Future Potential' for more future revenue details).
Launched in December 2007, YouGoDo.com is the world’s biggest pure activities and experiences website, answering the following questions from travellers from around the world:
I’m off to [your destination], what can I do there?
I want to [your chosen activity], where can I do it?
I want to do [your chosen activity] in [your destination], who provides this service?
YouGoDo offers users the ability to browse over 29,750 live activities in over 11,250 locations in 198 countries.
It is the easiest way to find your chosen activities, without having to wade through loads of irrelevant sites and out of date links. The search engine allows users to be as specific or as wide as they wish – the Kite Surfer visiting Tarifa in Spain, is just as well served as the Family visiting Innsbruck in Austria. Families will find Golf for him, Spa’s for her and zoos, whale watching, etc. for the group!
YouGoDo is based upon Web 2.0 technologies, allowing activity operators to enter and manage their own data, and it currently totally free for them to list their activities.
This allows us (a) to be able to offer global coverage, and (b) to ensure you get the data accurately - directly from the operators.

Why has traffic dropped?
The creators of YouGoDo have chased other opportunities in the past 5 years and hence YouGoDo has been neglected in terms of both development marketing.
No updates, advertising or active marketing have taken place for the past 5 years or so. The site continues to grow in terms of listed activities with more and more activity providers listing their details.
Why is it up for sale?
The directors of the website are pursuing new opportunities.
Where does the revenue come from?
YouGoDo, being a global activities website, has huge multi million $ annual revenue potential with the right investment, marketing and SEO.
YouGoDo has never been fully monetised. Efforts in the first 5 years were concentrated on growing traffic levels and live activity data.
Activity providers add their details totally free of charge and enquiries go directly from the buyer to the vendor with no commissions charged. Not a great business model!
The original intent was to monetise the site purely from advertising revenues. There are several advertising spots on the website, and we received numerous requests for advertising on the site each month but these are not currently followed up due to a lack of time.
Hence current income is very low from generic Google ads and some income from activity providers who can select pay to boost their listings position and visibility. Current income in the region of $2,000 per annum.
This is a global website providing data on what everyone wants – great things to do around the globe. With the right marketing and SEO the opportunities are huge. In the below few highlights I have shown potential for over $1,700,000 per year.
There are numerous great options to boost the income of the site which will be particularly effective if traffic levels are increased. These include:
a) Charging a small monthly fee to activity listers – with over 29,750 live activity listings charging a €50 annual subscription could provide almost $1,500,000 per annum.
b) Implementing on line booking and taking a booking fee (15% is not unusual for the industry). A 9 day sample of enquiries coming received in November 2010 highlighted a potential 15,315 UK pounds ($19,759 US) of activities being purchased. Scaled up for the year this came to 1,055,884 UK pounds ($1,362,312 US). Assuming 15% booking commissions for online bookings this would give an annual income of 158,382 UK pounds or $204,346 US.
c) Interest earned on monies taken for online bookings in the period from booking to paying the activity provider.
d) On line advertising – highly targeted online advertising to travel and experience hungry YouGoDo users searching for activities and travel services in a specified country and location. For example:
a. Hotels and hotel booking sites
b. Airlines and airline booking sites
c. Amazon, etc selling travel books and good
d. Travel insurance companies
e. Activity providers paying to highlight their details and place them in a top position (similar to Google AdWords)
f. Activity good providers – cycle manufacturers, surf shops, kayak vendors, etc.
With the right SEO placing the activity guides high up on search engines this revenue source has huge income potential.
What are the other perks of owning this website?
A minor consideration but a very nice perk of YouGoDo site ownership, especially for adventurous owners and lovers of travel is the ability to go and ‘test’ the world’s best activities in the world’s greatest locations free of charge in return for reviews!
What technology is used?
YouGoDo is all based upon the Microsoft stack = IIS, ASP.NET and SQL Server.
It is currently hosted on a Rackspace’s cloud platform.
What is included in the sale?
YouGoDo website and data with associated blog, instagram, twitter and facebook accounts.
What is required to keep the business operational?
Currently I spend maybe an hour a week on the website - simply reviewing and approving the new activities which are added. An email notification tells you when new activities have been added and you click the link to review and approve to make them live.
Are there any expenses for the business? If so, what are they?
Only expenses directly related to the business are the hosting fees which are currebtkly about $325 USD per month.
