What is included in the sale?
xpGameSaves is an established gaming forum / modders paradise. It is over 8 years old and has in excess of 1 million members worldwide. The worlds leading website for Xbox RGH & Jtag content and the home of 360Revolution tool for Xbox 360.
The website was originally monetized by AdSense and has generated stable traffic however we recently switched to a partner who manages complex ad bidding and has increased the revenue and help with things like Ad Placements and they simply take care of this and send a payment each month.
73.37% of Traffic is from Google / Organic
19.32% is Direct Traffic
2.72% is Bing / Organic
1.07% of Yahoo / Organic
The rest are from other gaming sites and Facebook, see provided attachment on traffic sources.
Past 12-months revenue
Aug, 2016 = $765.92
Sept = $953.09
Oct = $1,002.61
Nov = $1,011.50
Dec = $1,146.80
(These are the previous earnings from the same managed ads provider from when the last listing of this website. However, I took over it and there was a large learning curb, having no experience in websites and optimization, unfortunately the revenue declined as I was unable to commit my time to maintaining the site at that time).
Jan, 2017 = $599.95
Feb = $515.57
Mar = $672.95
Apr = $584.83
May = $682.21
Jun = $858.21
July = $803.38
Aug = it's $508.09 so far, probably going to be around $800 at the end of the month.
I recently received three offers of $30/each to include an in-article link to a website that sells games. The next owner is going to get more offers from them, possibly one per month. I haven't included this income in the above chart.
I have attached to this listing the previous owners Google Analytics information (I may still have access to this). I have attached a PDF of my own analytics account showing from March to Dec 13th:
6,974,131 Page Views
Historically from 2011 to March 2016
Revenue is provided by a third party ad optimization company of who's details will be reveled to serious buyers. Before that it was by AdSense.
Just to confirm this account is not banned by AdSense so you could return to that if you wanted too, however the revenue increase by switching to this company was significant.
Social Media & Apps
When I purchased this site I intended to completely renovate it by promoting it through social media, but this was never done.
There is a massive opportunity for someone who knows what they are doing to increase traffic through Facebook and thus revenue.
Facebook - 13,425 Likes
Twitter - 3,354 Followers
360 Revolution - This is a tool for the Xbox360 that was created a few years ago for members, it's still very popular. The source code will be included in the sale.
Are there any email lists included in the sale?
Yes, the forum mailing list with about 1M+ registered users.
History of the Website
The website has been a forum and has been running since 2009. It grew an excellent reputation for modding games and general gaming knowledge since it started the site has had in excess of 124 MILLION page views.
The website was running on an extremely outdated forum platform that was insecure, complex and resource intensive.
I have since taken it over and converted it at great time and length to XenForo and recently had a bespoke theme made for it so I could simplify the management and bring it into 2017.
The software I have moved it to is stable, secure and easy to use. There are no more issues or server downtimes since switching to it page speeds load in seconds, it's easy for members to join they can sign up with Facebook, Email, Steam in seconds.
The new website theme has been well received, having been contacted by two of the largest gaming marketplace websites asking for a partnership. The site has a lot of opportunity.
The conversion rate on the ads is higher too as it's gone from bright colors to blues making the ads stand out more.
I have recently compacted and reduced the amount of categories on the website as there were too many that were not used that often.
Thousands were spent on getting the new theme designed and migrated. It was a massive job, which took in excess of 30 days.
I'm still in touch with the previous owner on Skype and he’s happy to talk to any buyer along with myself.
Ensuring that any pending users are approved, and if there is a lack of new content writing a homepage article, the forums system has been improved sothe moderators can do most tasks themselves.
They work as volunteers free of charge. Optimizing ad placements with the help of the agency we work with.
What are the main expenses of the business?
Hosting: Dual Intel Xeon X5650 2.66GHz HexaCore w/HT 64 GB = $104.99 USD Monthly
WHM/cPanel License = $29.99 USD Monthly
There is also a charge of around $15/month for a DDoS protected server that sends out all the transactional mail.
The site itself is hidden behind CloudFlare so they resort to attacking the IP in e-mail server. Since this has been done all attacks have stopped.
There are plenty of licenses I have purchased (one-off costs) that I need to locate that haven't been included in the profit/expense forum as I need to go through my PayPal they are all small off one off expenses for add-ons that improve the functionality/features of the site.
The other items are the XenForo licenses and any add-on licenses for the updated versions.
There are numerous opportunities for this forum I have done all the ground work such as switching platform and migrating everything.
There is zero work done on social media and I haven't been able to pay attention to this site due to other projects that it should have had hence the slight decline. If someone put in the work they could easily partner with a digital marketplace.
I have been contacted by the largest digital marketplace of them offering to write articles and publish them on the website and they will pay $65/article and provide the article, or $100 if I/someone writes the article.
There is a potential partnership with another game CD key seller such as selling advertising space.
Zero social media work done.
Affiliate marketing opportunity (I have an ads manager that can convert keywords to URLs - never used).
Creation of guides/regular news would increase traffic and revenue.
Video creation of the tools and publishing to YouTube linking back to forum would increase revenue and traffic.
Introduction of an e-mail newsletter
Content Locking - I tried this and it wasn't very successful I think a link locker such as ad.fly would work better.
The site receives an extremely significant amount of traffic daily and makes excellent revenue.
What is required to keep the business operational?
It's primarily a forum, so it basically runs on its own. But if you intend to grow it, then you would have to be active.
How does the business generate revenue?
Partner company that manages everything for me. The new owner can switch to AdSense or continue with them if so pleases. I will reveal the partner company to any serious buyer.
Are there any expenses for the business? If so, what are they?
Hosting, cPannel, DDoS protection = about $150 per month.
What marketing initiatives have been used for this business?
I haven't used any marketing initiatives.
How can the future owner improve the business?
Simply by investing time in it — something that I lacked, unfortunately.
With regards to the email list, have you been sending emails to these users at all?
I've sent them one email when I took over the website, but it takes time. I think I've reached about 350,000 people (give or take). So yes, but only one email, many months ago. I don't send daily newsletter and I believe that this could be the secret to bring many of the users back to the website. Probably a newsletter service such as MailChimp (or similar) could make this happen. I haven't pursued this track, so the next owner should.
I have received two ad offers since I listed the website:
— up to $15 cpm (just for users watching, no clicking)
— a $200 per month offer, for a 250x350 banner
