Seller's Notes

I started this website in Apr 2016. The website is built in Shopify and uses a premium theme that I have customized heavily.

Over 200 orders and $64k in sales since launching.

Reason for selling:

I have over 8 websites in my portfolio and it's time to start purging. Looking to focus on my other websites that I am more passionate about.

Who Should Buy This?:

Honestly, this site is perfect for beginners or experts.

For beginners - it's a great started site that comes with over 500 products uploaded and 1000 of images uploaded. The sales process is simple, you just place orders by email or through an online portal depending on the supplier.

For Experts - this site has a ton of room for growth. I am making $400 per month simply with Google Shopping Ads and through the Houzz platform.

Opportunities to add new products, join additional marketplaces and use other means of advertising means there is a lot of room left for growth.

Tech Used:

Shopify and Google Ads, Merchant Center, Analytics and a few other apps.

Sale Includes:

  • Domain
  • Shopify website
  • Social media accounts
  • Relationship with suppliers - including an international supplier unique to the US market. Only myself and them sell int he US as far as I can tell.
  • Over 200 customer emails

Potential For Growth:

Pinterest - I think pinterest will be a great way to drive free/qualified traffic. I simply did not have the time or passion to build this. Again, needs a social media marketer.

Bing Ads

FB ads - Great place to gain qualified leads

New Products - this is in the home decor niche. Good ads 1000's of more products.

Transition/Handover:

I will sign an NDA or non compete if needed.

Will also provide 30 days support for handover of all docs, domain, website, etc.

Why did you lose money in the beginning?

This was my first attempt at Google Ads. And there was a huge learning curve for me. Finally got them under control in Dec 16 and started driving relevant traffic.

Content comes directly from my two suppliers. Suppliers provide images, descriptions, prices, etc. From there it is a simple as inputting the products in Shopify which has an easy to manage dashboard.

Task 1 - Product Updats
Description - Update prices, add new products, update quantities per supplier data files.
Who - Owner
Hours per week - 1
How may people perform this task? - 1

Task 2 - Customer Support
Description - Answering emails, phone calls, etc.
Who - Owner
Hours per week - 1
How may people perform this task? - 1

Task 3 - Fulfilling Orders
Description - fulfill orders on houzz, supplier portal or via email
Who - Owner

How may people perform this task? - 1

Does the owner need specific skillsets in order to successfully operate the site?

No. This site requires minimal time and energy. It requires someone that has the time to market and update the website to grow organic traffic.

Do you and/or any employees or freelancers provide customer support?

Yes

How is customer support handled and what is the average volume?

Owner provides customer support. 5-10 cases per month. Mostly shipping questions.

Please identify and briefly describe your main competitors (1-3 is fine)

Wayfair. HayNeedle.

What makes your website better than its competition?

The bar globes are sourced from Italy so as far as I know, I am the only one (or 1 of 2-3) that sell the bar globes. You can't find the same quality or craftsmanship in the with any of the look alike globes on competitor sites. Zoffoli brand is by far superior.

No

How many suppliers does the business use and for how long has the business used each of these suppliers?

2 Over 1 year relationship with each.

Does the business benefit from volume pricing arrangements with its suppliers?

No

Do you have written agreements in place with your suppliers?

Yes

Are these agreements transferable to the new owner? Please explain

Don't anticipate any issues. 1 supplier has a sign up form via wholesale account on their website. The bar globe supplier is ok with transferring.

How often and through which channels do you pay suppliers for purchased goods?

Online portal or directly with credit card

What is the average lead time from the order date until customer receives the good?

For model ships and telescopes - avg lead time is 3-5 days. For bar globes from Italy - 7 -28 days. They are handmade so sometimes they are not ready for shipment immediately.

Explain your payment terms with your supplier(s)?

No terms. CC only.

Have you changed suppliers in the past?

Yes

Please explain the circumstances for changing suppliers

Used to use benzara.com - but terrible support from their staff and products were always out of stock.

Are you willing to sign a 3-year non-compete contract in the industry that the website operates in?

No, I am not.

If you answered "No" to the question above, please describe why.

I am willing to sign a non-compete for model ships, telescopes, bar globes. But home decor is too broad of a niche to sign a non-compete with.

Will you provide 1-3 months of post-sale support & training, in order to ensure that the buyer is able to fully take over the business and its operations?

Yes

What are the primary growth opportunities for the business going forward?

Adding new products. I have a list of 40 more potential suppliers and there are easily 100's more with products that would fit into this niche. Chess pieces, antique armor, leather couches and chairs, anything you would find in a parlor room. Pinterest - I get consistent pin saves and views from pinterest but I know nothing about the platform and haven't looked into it. Retargeting and Social Media - advertising on facebook and instagram and retargeting.

Are there any geographical limitations to the potential buyer of the business?

No, there are no geographic limitations.

@msutyler2 "Only $25 of ad spend in July and $199 in June."

Could you please clearly state the profits after all the expenses (product price, advertising, Shopify monthly, product importing, apps monthly)? Last four months data would be great.

Regards,
Naser.

@msutyler2 You have hardly any Organic traffic. How do you account for those sales without much advertising. Do you know where those sales came from?

Noavatar
msutyler2 ( | $8.54K )
Thu, 10 Aug 2017 03:03:57 AEST

@artman77 Houzz accounts for the sales. I did not run google PLA's the last two months as I had a buyer lined up so I paused the campaigns. Can easily turn them back on.

Thu, 10 Aug 2017 03:27:19 AEST

@artman77 Yes, the products you list on your shopify site 'integrate' with houzz. When an order is placed on Houzz, you get a notification and see the sale on your shopify dashboard. Same as any other marketplace really. Amazon, ebay, etc.

Also, it looks like you have almost 25% returns this year. How have you expensed that?

Noavatar
msutyler2 ( | $8.54K )
Thu, 10 Aug 2017 11:19:47 AEST

@artman77 houzz takes a 15% fee. But you pay nothing for listing or advertising.

@artman77 most of the returns are my fault. They were out of stock items. I updated the inventory once a month. If I would've done it once a week I would've been much better off.
