Seller's Notes

This is a very unique opportunity.

This is one of the few websites where the traffic is pretty much guaranteed. That's because the website is a very common typo for someone going to whatsmyip.org which is the big kahuna in this space.

So you don't have to rely on google rankings, or keeping your users entertained, all you have to do is keep the site up and you get an automated income stream.

And since its a generic domain name, there is no trademark issues since you aren't typo squatting.

So you can just leave it alone, sit back and get that check from Google every month. Or you can develop it and try to become the top site in this space.  To give you an example of what that means, I inquired about buying whatsmyip.org and they wanted $5 mil for it. So the potential for revenue is huge.

Please note, the traffic reported by Google analytics is severely underreported since I had to filter out a lot of the traffic. The site gets a metric ton of traffic(I'm guessing bots). My server kept crashing even  on a 8 gig linode so before I bumped that to 16 gigs, I forwarded the  dns to an affiliate program to see just how bad it was, and it generated  34647 clicks in something like 8 hours.   So I had my developer try and block some of the traffic, which was pretty  successful since now everything works with just a 1 gig linode.  What that also did was cut down the revenue by about 4x(it was doing $600-$1,200/mo before that...you can see proof of that from when I originally purchased the site: https://flippa.com/3057708-whatismyip-org)...so if you are really good at setting up servers and can set one up that can handle the extreme load, you could improve your revenues by quite a bit overnight.

I'm starting the auction at $30,000 with no reserve, which is what the domain is worth just by itself with no website/traffic, and I'm going to let the bidding process decide what kind of premium all the other factors are worth.

Please remember this isn't some info page that you are buying, where the traffic can disappear over night, or where you need to post new content every day just to keep your Google rankings. This is a fire and forget type of property where you buy it, setup your Adsense code, then go focus on your other projects while generating ~10% profit a year on auto-pilot(or much much more if you actually decide to develop it).

Winner will get the domain and the website.

Only expenses are the $10/mo for a Linode, and the cost of renewing the domain once a year.

Happy bidding.

if you think my asking price is too high, you are free not to bid. I know it isn't, because frankly the domain alone is worth my starting price.

I'm not selling some fly by night blog/app/website where it'll stop making reported revenues/traffic after a month or two like most listings you see on Flippa. This is actually a safe investment which doesn't require any maintenance or any work from the new owner that will keep making money perpetually while offering a higher ROI than you'd see from a mutual fund/savings account.

Hi, If you search for "what is my ip", Google now shows the IP address right in their page. So the user doesn't have to go to a site to get the IP address anymore. What impact does that have on this site?

@mra13 not that much really

like I said, this site doesn't rely on Google rankings for its survival....most of the traffic is direct type in(67% of it in fact), and Google has been showing that in search results for a years now, so any impact from that addition is already factored in to the current revenue.

My guess is that a lot of people are simply hard wired to directly type in the domain name at this point since it takes just as much effort to search google as it does to just go directly to the site or they simply just have it bookmarked.

That, plus the whatsmyip.org isn't just an ip listing site. They also list the user agent and the host name and have a bunch of networking tools like traceroute, port scanners etc(adding these could keep them on the site, and increase revenue)...so users have a lot more than just the ip address to draw them to go to the site directly.

That's the real beauty of this property, you don't have to worry about Google rankings at all, you don't have to renew content just to stay relevant in search results, you can just have it run on auto pilot

@Yatko I already have plans to sell it to someone if this doesn't sell on flippa, so if you are interested in buying this, you'll have to bid

Juko, its a nice domain name you got.

You mentioned that you have cut down x4 the traffic which also has lowered your income for the site/domain. Would it really be possible to bring back that traffic or is it lost forever? I understand that the blocking could be removed but would that result in that the traffic came back? Have you tried?

Trying to calculate how to get my money back in return. I have a few dedicated servers with almost unlimted bandwidth so I would like/have to be able to get full ads income from day one to even be able to motivate a bid. Even though I love the domain name the price is very high (not saying its not worth it, but just simply its alot of money)

Juko i agree with webdaddie

@webdaddie the bot traffic should still be there...at least it was when we tested not too long ago to see if we could drop the block to increase the numbers without the site crashing again.

Oh yes, the price is def not cheap but then again this isn't some wordpress blog. This is probably one of the few true 'Auto-pilot' property that you'll see. All others still require you to do SEO, build links, build content, moderate comments, answer customer service questions or fulfill orders. They all require some form of involvement or they wither and die.

So for me as a seller, the current price is what the site is worth to me to be willing to walk away from it since it requires zero work and is a reliable source of revenue. And being a reliable source of revenue is huge.

The way I look at it, is that the site can pretty much pay your new car lease indefinitely. So by buying this site, you can basically drive a brand new car every 3 years for the rest of your life. And to me, that's worth $30K and then some.

And like I said above, this site is essentially already sold. I have two buyers lined up that are within $1000 of each other and I'm not taking any more offers. The only way left to buy the site is to actually bid.

Interested in the site. Screenshot doesn't prove its this site, can you share screen shot with actual site? Can you allow me read access to Google Analytics please? I can message you my gmail.

@gemedia just fyi flippa verifies the adsense and analytics when you list a property for sale. They get actual login access and scrape the data from inside the actual account. I only put up the screenshot because there are a lot of noobs who don't realize that. Of course with the actual buyer I'll gladly do a video verification of the adsense account to put their mind at ease.

As far as sharing full access to google analytics, I save that only for those I consider to be serious bidders. Which usually means you spent a bit of money on Flippa. For newish accounts like yours, I'll need you to PM me a screenshot of your bank account so I can verify that you actually have the funds to buy this property before I can share that access(just upload the screenshot to imgur and give me the link through PM). Sorry to make you jump through all these hoops, but there are a lot of lookieloos out there who like to use flippa for keyword/referral research, so I don't want to just handout that access left and right before I know that you are a serious bidder.
