LustBox was started back in November in 2014 when two friends and long-time colleagues came together to offer a subscription service for men from all over the world instead of only in North America. Why LustBox you might ask? Well, LustBox sounds sexy and that is how we wanted our members to feel. Lust is also something that you really want and that is the feeling we wanted to put in men’s heads around the world.
As LustBox is based in Norway it was natural that many of our members would be from Scandinavian countries, but since we opened up for the American market it has been our largest customer base. We have shipped LustBoxes each month to over 40 countries around the world, and worked with over 60 brands from all over the world!
LustBox is a premium subscription service for men. Every month our members receive 4 new and unique clothing accessories and lifestyle products from brands from all over the world. In March we also released our own in-house products so that we could offer an even wider selection of products that sometimes would be difficult to get a hold on through suppliers.
Our first sales month was back in January of 2015. We sold 32 boxes that month. It first really started taking off in June of 2015. That month we went from 60 to 105 sales. From there to New Years of 2015 we had a steady monthly rise in subscribers and ended up with 350 boxes sold in December 2015.
After that it started declining a little bit monthly. We thought it was because of it being the weak season for retailers, but it turned out that our Instagram marketing was not as efficient anymore due to the algorithm changes. With us being new to ecommerce at that time, we knew very little of SEO and therefore barely received any traffic organically through search. We still received sales through Instagram, but it wasn’t enough each month to keep up with the number we lost.
Why it’s for sale
For a few months we discussed where our marketing money should go and what direction we were taking LustBox. We own 50% of of the company each, and it has been difficult to agree on which direction to take, which has been the main reason the sales have declined the last couple of months. We have decided to go in separate directions and wish for our baby to grow up to a healthy and big adult with the right supervision and leadership. We both have tremendous belief in LustBox and it’s potential, but don’t see ourselves as the team to take it to where it deserves to be.

Each month for the last year we have collected new products to be sold in our LustBox store. We have more than $29 000 worth of accessories ready to be sold. In December we did a Popup shop which was very successful for us, revenue ended up at $11.802 (this amount is not recorded in Stripe or Paypal).
