@feidhlim: I am working to try to 'sure' up the subcontract work at the moment.
The company approached us and approved our sample resumes. In my opinion, the chance that this work will go ahead is strong.
I cannot offer a price guarantee on this point as quality and timeliness of output will be the predominant determining factors in receiving volume and continuity of orders from this (and other) firms. These two factors, quality and timeliness, are under the control of the Buyer.
If the subcontract falls through in the first 45 days, I will work with the Buyer to find alternative subcontract work with a volume of 4-8 orders/day. There are a number of opportunities and I do have some contacts which I will provide in the sale no matter the outcome of the primary subcontract project. The business’s performance is wholly and explicitly the responsibility of the Buyer.

Hi,
Sorry - I'm not sure you understood my question.
If an individual pays for an improved resume, and they don't get a job - do they have some come back on the site? Am I misinterpretting the below?
"Employed or we'll return your money and pay you $50!

Our 60 day Job Guarantee speaks for itself - that you should only expect the very best professional resume service. No other resume companies bet their fee on your employment."

Noavatar
jwinters ( suspended )
Wed, 17 Mar 2010 10:13:02 AEDT

@feidhlim

Sorry, I did misinterpret your question - I thought you were referring to the subcontract job.
Our guarantee requires that a customer present proof of applying to 30 jobs in the first 30 days by means of either Certified Mail receipts or Fax receipts. E-mail is not acceptable. The rate of customers that satisfy these requirement are very low - based on data from a competitor with a similar guarantee, it is less than 4%.
Truthfully, most customers will be happy with the results produced by a professional resume writer. It is usually more succinct, clearer and more intentionally worded than they could write themselves. Of those that are not, many will not chase up the offer for lack of time/interest and few will meet the criteria to receive a refund.
The refund is limited to 'one-per-customer' and may require certified proof of customer's ID.

Hi, what are the expenses for advertising and to run the site. Please post proof of these Expenses.

Noavatar
jwinters ( suspended )
Thu, 18 Mar 2010 01:38:17 AEDT

@jhf12

Expenses to run the site are $32.90/month. There are no ongoing contracts. Hosting for all three domains is with site5.com (inc. a unique IP address) for $13.95/mo. The other cost is for the telephone numbers. We have received very few enquiries by telephone - I would suggest transitioning to e-mail only support.
Advertising has only been tested intermittently at this stage. The costs were $1915 for the campaigns summed up and described in the post on March 16. This spend could be varied up or down depending on your budget, desired revenue and performance of the campaigns. At the moment, we pay the SEM Agency $100/month as a base fee with a % commission based on ROI that equates to approximately 10-15% of revenue per month. There is no ongoing contract with this agency and you can leave anytime.
Writing costs have been described in the document "Answers to Questions posted March 15" and occur only when an order is received (no ongoing remuneration costs) with a 30-70% gross profit margin on revenue.

Update regarding subcontract work: Attached partial e-mail from firm regarding subcontract work (contact details edited out for obvious reasons).
This work appears to have the go-ahead - great news for prospective buyers. The estimated revenue from 4 orders/day is $91,000 USD.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello Jarryd,
Thank you for your response. I can certainly send you 4/day if that is agreeable to you.
I would like to start with 1 or 2 /day at first to ensure that your team meets our

standards for quality. The resumes must be perfect as our client is quite picky about this.
FYI, if your team turns around excellent work, I would certainly consider a restructuring and make 9/day available to you.
Please let me know if you are ready to proceed.

Personal but important question.... Why would you give up a project you have put many hours into and could potentially yield over 90k a year? Other then starting a new job...?

Noavatar
jwinters ( suspended )
Sun, 21 Mar 2010 15:04:58 AEDT

@feidhlim

I was hoping not to 'give up' the project. I wanted to recoup some of the time and capital invested through the sale of the project. :)
Setting it up has left a bit of a hole in my pocket (I have spent more than $10k) and has taken a fairly intense 9 months (time zone difference between Australia and US meant I was staying up or waking up at all hours –interviewing writers, dealing with contractors who developed the sites, wrote content, etc.).
The business does requires a relatively responsiveness person to handle support and make sure writers deliver on time. If you find a good writer who is reliable, you may not have much to do - however, bad writers are difficult and can take 4-6 e-mails to resolve. Thankfully you can just stop using bad writers (contracts are 1 order at a time). With the subcontract you may have enough scale to hire a dedicated support person part time.
Remember: The subcontract work will only continue if you deliver quality to a deadline. If you were writing the resumes yourself as a job, it would be easy to guarantee that. When you are not, it is in your best interest to review each resume to make sure you don’t risk losing the ~90k/year revenue. That takes time – I would suggest 1 hour/day on top of support for business from SEM.
After work, I don't have the motivation to keep up with this consistently or keep to different time zones. My new job (Actuary) is rated among the highest in 'Most Stressful' lists. I can’t continue the business so I am cashing out.

Hi,

I really see you have put in a lot of excellent work! I do have a few questions.
28 Sales

$6,336 Revenue

$2,129 Cost of Writing (33.61% Revenue)

$2,292 Gross Profit Less Marketing = (Revenue – Cost of Writing – Cost of Google SEM)
Could you give me a clear idea of the time investment on your own part to accomplish these numbers? Did you write any resumes yourself? Did you handle all the requests coming in and what kind of time investment was that? Did you monitor quality on every resume? Who has the final communication with your client - you or your resume writer?
Also what system do you use to collect client data in preparation for resume writing? Do you turn over all of that to your writers or do you have a required formula to use?
Do your writers use the templates you provide only? How long would you estimate that it takes to turn out a quality product?
I guess my questions are all around systems and procedures and what the time investment is - if buyer does not personally handle the work, it will have to be outsourced and I am wondering about the costs involved.
Also I couldn't find graduateresumes.net online.
Thanks.

@donnalee

Truthfully, as an owner trying to build a business, I think you will find yourself setting a high standard to try to gain referrals and build reputation. Personally, I did edit/alter/finish some resumes from writers during this period.
Support takes a fair amount of time. I suggested 4-6 hours per week for 28 resumes/month.
Many customers prefer to contact the firm first (usually by email) before making a purchase. This market is most productive when you have a support person who encourages the customer ‘over the line’ to make the final buying decision. Customers read what you write in a direct e-mail responding to their question/request in more detail than they will ever read a website. A few simple direct notes about their resume (while remaining complimentary of their efforts) builds rapport and gains surprising buying conviction.
Monitoring quality is important. However, after a few resumes, you will get a good sense whether a writer can be trusted and typically this does not fluctuate. Work ethic and knowledge of the resume standards and norms are usually quite constant – either a writer is committed and knowledgeable or they are not.
The writer contacts the customer to gain additional information. They will typically deliver the draft to the customer though you should ensure you receive a copy to make sure the customer has it by the deadline – don’t pay until you have the completed work. (Personally, I preferred to handle final delivery by e-mail myself.)
Our career questionnaire is a word document. You may choose to set up a web form – this is not difficult. The whole document is passed on to writers.
I provided templates to the writers (30 included in sale - worth over $1000 at cost value themselves) that have formatting and page layout defined. Typically these look best and the first impression a customer receives (as well as an employer) is important.
It usually takes an experienced writer 1-3 hours to write a quality resume. This seems short compared to writing your own resume, but good writers are well versed in the terminology, wording, necessary inclusions/exclusions and how to present the content of a resume. This makes the hourly rate quite competitive ($20-40/hour based on subcontract rates – higher if you receive the full retail sale price as you would if you were an Owner-Writer).
The GraduateResumes.net webpage is paused at the present time. We have no graduate campaign running at the moment and prefer to encourage customers to our other sites. You may change this easily.

I'm wondering why you are posting guaranteedresumes.net for sale when response resume.com is a much better site with a lot more development.
Do you have a web developer that you hired to do all l this or do you use an ecommerce platform of some kind?

@wiknar

ResponseResume.com is included in this sale.
You are correct, ResponseResume.com has a more sophisticated ecommerce platform. I had a custom shopping cart developed including javascript/ajax Country/currency changes, cross selling and ajax career questionnaire. It is all controlled by an admin subsite with order reports from data stored in a MySQL database.
It should be simple to duplicate the shopping cart and edit the template to match the GuaranteedResumes.net website. The order process for GuaranteedResumes.net at the moment is a simpler and faster checkout - albeit less flexible.
The ecommerce platform cost a few thousand dollars to have developed from an external contractor. It is all included.

I have been watching this auction closely since the 27th and have noticed that pending bids are not accepted until after there is less than four hours remaining even though they have been pending since the six hour (this varies) mark and I have watched it pretty much constantly, missing only a couple hours here and there. Is there a reason for this?

Noavatar
jwinters ( suspended )
Wed, 31 Mar 2010 12:11:40 AEDT

@Michaelebrown

I have been accepting bids as quickly as I see them. The way I understand flippa to works is such that: if a bid is placed in the last 4 hours (accepted/rejected/not acted on), it will add an additional 4 hours to the auction end time. This only occurs once for each 'last 4 hours' meaning if 2 or more bids are placed in the last 4 hours, it doesn't add 8 or more hours. Hence, the maximum time pending hasn't been greater than 8 hours for the last few days. There is a timezone difference and I sleep & work which means I cannot be here all the time and there is often some delay before I accept bids.
I thought there had been a few bids accepted prior to reaching the last 4 hours since the 27th, but I could be wrong.
