Seller's Notes

Browser Game Rank is a top list and directory for browser based games. It was created in January 2012 and is developed using PHP/Laravel.

How does it work?

If you are familiar with top lists, that's exactly what this is. However rather than the rankings resetting every 30 days, we have a rolling period of 30 days (e.g. the rankings represents all votes over the past 30 days) to ensure positions aren't lost at the beginning of each month.

For those not familiar with top lists, it works as so. Game developers join the website to list their game. After this, they receive a URL which they can send their players to in order to vote for their game. The more votes a game receives (one vote per day per player/IP), the higher the game moves up the rankings. This means the game receives more exposure from other players who are being sent to vote on the website. The end result is all games receive more traffic but those which are voted to the top of the rankings benefit the most.

To start the top list, we contacted lots of game developers back in 2012, many of whom were happy to join the list and are still here today. Since then, we haven't done anything to find new games, however new game developers either search for top lists or look at the top lists which other games are listed on. As a bonus we rank highly for "browser game top list".

Where does the revenue come from?

The website has 4 sources of revenue:

  • Google AdSense
  • SolveMedia (captcha ads on voting page)
  • PayPal payments for premium upgrades
  • Project Wonderful

Where does the traffic come from?

Most traffic comes from the games which are participating in the voting.

Advertising Revenue

The website has some light AdSense ads in addition to the previously mentioned captcha ads, which are delivered by SolveMedia. The website generates over $1000/year at the current exchange rate from these advertisements. In earlier years ads were sold directly to the game developers. This takes a bit of effort but you can gain 50% on the AdSense revenue by doing things this way.

What's provided?
