Seller's Notes

Yearly Cash Flow: $60k

Product Price: $98

Time Commitment: 2-4h/week

Established: 2 years

Brief history of the site

The site was born from the desire of an UI Designer (at that time) to have a competitive icon library that is sold at high quality standards to creatives all around the web to directly use them in their commercial and personal projects with less or no limitations.

The collection was launched in February 2015 with 1456 icons in 3 unique styles, total of 4368 icons. The latest product version was launched in February 2017, after 2 years, with 2264 icons in 6 styles, total of 13584 icons.

A more detailed timeline can be provided. We had 2 major updates and 5 smaller updates across the two years.

This website still has the same single full-rights owner that also has the full-creator position.

Monetisation methods

  • Direct Sales

The site uses a third party seller Paddle.com, that handles VAT and other taxes and offers a nice dashboard to manage the product. The customer can pay by a chosen method, credit card, bank card or PayPal.

  • Subscriptions

Another source for income would be a very known website for icons: Iconfinder.com, that uses subscriptions and single-icon sales. This is the only current channel we use to generate external sales.

  • Past monetisations
  1. Designmodo - a blog in the creative field that also has a digital product market
  2. UI8 - a digital product shop
  • Past Deals
  1. mightydeals - one of the biggest deal websites in the field
  2. stacksocial - same, one of the strongest deal websites, that lately uses bundles to sell products
  • Extended Licenses

A major and important source of income would be to sell Extended Licenses. As an example to larger companies that has more than 5 users, or paid services that uses icons by the end-customer in different fields like: print, iOS apps, product mockups, mobile apps, t-shirts, etc.

We did not used any SEO or any strong payed marketing services to promote the icons.

Cash Flow

A detailed Profit & Loss Statement is attached. Detailed breakdown revenue on the last 4 months are provided and also an invoice showing the revenue from latest extended license sold.

Any other screenshots requests can be provided at real interest.

A video walk-trough with all details can be provided, but please have common sense.

Promoting & monetisation proposal

There are a lot of methods to promote and monetise the business. We used the ones we considered handy for our field with less or no costs. With special and professional skills a lot can be achieved. Some of our proposals that we are sure will work:

  1. hiring a SEO specialist
  2. paid google ads/words
  3. youtube short video presentation
  4. paid banner ads on different websites/blogs/shops in the field
  5. paid newsletters for websites that are promoting free and/or premium digital products
  6. uploading the icon library on large marketplaces that are offering comission
  7. uploading the icon library as different formats like webfont/svg on specialised websites that are offering comission
  8. continuing publishing freebies  (limited number of icons for free) on different freebie websites or even blogs in the design field
  9. creating and promoting social network accounts

Inclusions

To administrate the business you need to handle:

  1. The main website that is built on Webflow.com platform, a site builder that can be used and easy learned by any person.
  2. Wordpress website for the digital product shop
  3. The bonus website with the free mockups also built on Webflow
  4. Paddle.com seller dashboard with monthly payment to your bank account or paypal account
  5. Iconfinder account
  6. All other channel accounts
  7. Domains and e-mail accounts

You will receive all domains and all accounts used to manage the business in no time, just a few settings to change and all done.

As you can see we built a business in two years that is steady, remarkable, on top of our competitors. An important pylon of this business is our selected and targeted subscribers list that was grown once with the business. This list we are talking about growth from website launch to this day (~2 years) from 1 to 50k subscribers. This will be handle to the Buyer as CSV format list. We recommend sending 1-2 emails/month with discounts, offers and promotions.

To have a good maintenance, customer support and good reviews I recommend no more than 2-4h/week as time commitment.

Bonus

  1. The Icon website is "backed up" by a digital products shop who delivers freebies in the creative field, that collects e-mail addresses and sends regular marketing newsletters promoting the main Icon site. We also pack this for you, 5 free digital products on a Wordpress website that sits on a nice domain, coming as first bonus.
  2. Attached to this business, another great premium product that generated a small income indeed, but still good for status, image and reputation, was a massive collection of iOS devices mockups that starting with this year are given for free. This will also be in the business package, including the domain.
  3. As a last bonus, we can offer support to the new owner, by launching a possible next update that will contain 100+ icons (this will include the new zip file preparation and the website update). Will also share a strategy and consultancy for a period of 1 month after the transition completion.

Reason for selling

I don't own any other business if you ask me. I consider this business a great success and this had, is and will open a lot of opportunities. I also work for clients and other projects, this business was a side project for me.

Imagine what you can do if you double or even triple the traffic, trying different marketing campaigns or/and good SEO strategy.

Because this business can do much more, but don't have the skills for marketing or managing it, I want to hand it to a good Buyer that will adopt a good strategy and will do the best for it. This business has a lot of impact in the creative field and the market is very large.

I am at your service to provide any additional info, but please have common interest.

Notes

We offer one Standard License price, sold for $98. More details about the product can be viewed on the product's website.

Our product is advanced and of very high quality. The library comes in many formats to be used by any person in the IT field, skilled or not skilled. We actually offer a 30-day refund policy, but our average refund is 0%. Typically you need an average of 1 e-mail per day to reply to possible customer questions/support.

If you want to grow the library we recommend working with a graphic designer freelancer. The price can vary between $1-10/icon.

Keep in mind that only creating from scratch such a digital product of this size and building a website for it would cost you around $50k.

Operating in this creative field of digital products/assets will give you a much easier take over and a more smooth transition.

This business has a single owner and no other person was or is involved. This business is legally functioning and all taxes has been payed to the local financial authorities.

@owenwww Extended license permits the buyer to use the icons with less or no restrictions. The standard license allows to use a smaller amount of icons in the same project and prohibits the distribution or re-sell of the icons. More details here: https://www.swifticons.com/license .
When potential buyer wants to use the icons in his app towards the end-user with no limitations (for example product mockups, ios apps mockups, etc) then he needs an extended license. Another example could be licenses for big companies, above 5 users who want access to the same icon library. The prices are usually negotiated.

@Howto Sure, if you take a look in P&L you will see 50% of the total revenue is from extended licenses, which I just explained it in the above comment what it means. Let me know if I can help.

@xcaped I don't quite get it. If the licenses are annual then the pikes were at the same time a year ago. Where from did they come ?
