The Cozy Reader Club box is a book lover's dream. Each box includes a recently released, hardcover, women's fiction novel, beautiful handmade items such as a hand knit scarf or cozy socks, small batch artisan coffee, tea or hot chocolate, and gourmet handcrafted treats. Reading is one of the best ways to relax and escape from the stresses of everyday life. It's fun to cozy up on the couch and pretend you're in someone else's life for a few minutes before having to go back to reality. Even if you only have time to read one chapter, it takes you away from all the problems of everyday life. And why not have a cup of tea and a cookie, while you're at it, and really enjoy those fleeting moments while they last. At the same time, the consumer gets to discover small batch coffee or tea from other parts of the country, that they might not otherwise get to travel to and discover. We also include handmade items such as a knit scarf or cozy socks from mostly Etsy sellers and all based in the US, which adds to their cozy reading experience.
The Cozy Reader Club was started in January 2016 and has developed a great brand and loyal customer base. The sale of the Cozy Reader Club includes the business domains (Cozyreader.club and cozyreaderclub.com), all social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter), all customer information in the Cratejoy database, a MailChimp mailing list with 1,400+ addresses, Logo, blog via WordPress and any current inventory on hand.
We are selling because we don't have the time to fully commit to the growth of the business.
With quality vendors, the growing customer base and our established partnerships, the new owner will be perfectly poised with unlimited growth potential.
The business is based 100% on an ecommerce recurring subscription model through Cratejoy. The subscriber base is mainly in the US with a few subscribers in Canada as well. The business does not currently carry any inventory. All products are ordered and shipped on a monthly basis as part of the subscription box. We currently use a third party fulfillment center. If you decide to pack the boxes yourself, this would increase profit. Subscribers can sign up for either a monthly or three month prepaid subscription and are automatically rebilled either monthly or every three months depending on which subscription they choose. There are also non-renewing one time gift options. Boxes ship to subscribers once per month on the 18th. Product price is $64.95 per month + shipping.
We work with many different vendors each month and have established relationships with many major US book publishers. We source all products from within the USA only and use mainly Etsy sellers for the handmade items. We benefit from being able to buy products at wholesale pricing.
Currently, the owner spends about 25-30 hours per week operating the business. This time is primarily spent researching future products, ordering products and supplies for the current month, managing social media sites, marketing through email and social media, and responding to customer support requests. The business does not have any employees.
Main recurring expenses:
The Cozy Reader Club grew from 0-200 subscribers in the first year, doing over $98k in gross revenue for 2016. Growth rate per month is between 30-40 subscribers with a churn rate of between 12-15%. We currently run marketing campaigns weekly through Facebook and send boxes to bloggers and Youtube influencers monthly for additional marketing. We do have some agreements currently with a influencers that would need to be honored. Cratejoy also provides marketing support as well.
The website and subscription information is hosted and maintained through Cratejoy. Cratejoy is a fantastic platform, very user friendly and support is great. The website is very easy to update. I have no html experience and I was able to figure it out with little difficulty. We use Stripe as our payment processor.
All customer support is handled via email or live chat (through Zendesk) on the website. There is no phone number for customers to call.
I will provide 30-60 days of support and training during the owner transition. I am also willing to sign a non-compete.
There are several other book subscription boxes. None of them provide the same cozy reading experience that we do. Also most of the additional items that come in the competitors boxes are sourced from overseas and not locally. The artisan products and cozy experience in our boxes are what sets us apart.
