Seller's Notes

It's come time for my partner and I to sell our baby, ManCaveAuthority. Perfect opportunity to purchase an established, pre-built dropshipping site that we as owners aren't able to manage anymore. 2,600 uniques per month (organic) all fed by one of a kind blog content and a man cave "community". $300/mo in net profit, $2,000 in monthly revenue, and the potential to grow exponentially.

We put a ton of work into this site over the past several years, and are hoping to pass it to someone who can take it even farther than we did. There shouldn't be any issue with the reserve price, it's low.

Download the Income Statements for all sales/expenses from 2014 on through 2016.

MCA was officially launched in September 2014 to serve as the premier men's home furnishing/sports/man cave decor site on the internet. Our strategy was to use blog content and the man cave "community" to propel our site to the top of the market, and it worked!

From September 2014 to August 2016 we averaged $2,000/month in revenue and $300/in net profit! We have 40 blog articles that were customer and user submitted, and high quality links from all over the web. (see attached spreadsheet to verify income/expense info).

In August 2016, life changes for both owners led to us being too busy and unable to fulfill orders, and so we suspended the shopping cart. While we still get heavy organic traffic because of our content, we are not fulfilling any orders. This was not due to anything other than us being busy.

Our shift in priorities is your gain! We are more than happy to help transition the site into your hands, and you can take MCA as far as you'd like (either passive income by turning back on the shopping cart or continue to build on the brand).

1) and all supplementary items we have, including our price lists, SEO descriptions, etc for 7000 current SKUs.

2) Email list with 500 subscribers, consisting of MailChimp, in-site optimization, and past orders.

3) PREMIUM Man Cave Authority Blog content (seriously, take a look, it's pretty awesome)!! 40 incredibly unique blog posts, interviews with man cave cretors, pictures, DIY ideas, etc. This was the lifeblood of our strategy, and we executed on this really well. This continues to drive unique organic traffic and links!

Several blog highlights:

  1. Video Game Man Cave - Interview and pics with the creator
  2. Sweet St. Louis Blues DIY Man Cave
  3. Boston Red Sox Man Cave - Inside the Green Monster

4) Twitter/Facebook Accounts - All completely real followers (445 on Twitter, 435 on Facebook), continuing to generate followers organically by content without us touching it.

5) Established relationships and contacts with our current manufacturers who hold all inventory and do all the shipping.

  • Site is run on Shopify to make it extremely easy to modify/update/add SKUs or modify the page
  • Additional apps added on include: MailChimp for building email lists; JustUno for promotional banners, coupon codes, etc; MoonMail Recovery to automatically email abandoned checkouts; Product Reviews; Pop-Up Window to add emails to email list; and Google Shopping.
  • SKU updating/inventory management is done by CSV. The master CSV is included with purchase so no inventory management needs to be done manually.
  • Site is completely customized (and customizeable).

  • All pages of web site and item descriptions have been optimized manually optimized for SEO.
  • There have never been any blackhat/frowned upon techniques to generate links traffic.
  • Top organic search is "man cave furniture" which we used to be #1, but are currently #4 given our inactivity.
  • Top referral is Reddit, as we are listed on the Reddit mancave subreddit as a top site (see right hand links)
  • Other top links include many high authority (newspapers, etc as we tried to get publicity early on).
  • We typically rank for any sports team and combination of furniture (San Francisco 49ers bar stool, for example).

Right now, if you turned the shopping cart back on you would immediately start getting orders (we get emails all the time asking us what's wrong with the cart).

That being said, given the time that has passed since we were active, there are a couple things that you'll want to do:

  1. Products change from our manufacturers every once in a while. The inventory on the site will need to be rematched with the offerings from the manufacturer and add any new items they may have.
  2. Google AdWords changed something over the last nine months, so you'll want to re-list the products with Google Adwords.

Those are the two biggest things, and neither one is required to turn the shopping cart on. We can help for 30 days to make sure everything is transitioned successfully.

There has been a lot of work that has gone into this site to make it successful, and based on how much you want to be involved, you can use this for either passive income or make this a lot bigger. I'm more than happy to walk through the site with any serious buyers and answer any questions. Thanks for looking!

@cra726 Thanks for the question! 100% of the content was created by myself and my partner. We actually had such a big following on Twitter, Reddit, etc. that people started sending us their own pictures of their man caves which we would then interview and write about. We also used each post to specifically target certain keywords that we wanted to rank for.

1) Will you grant me access to your Google Analytics account?
If you have completed at least one purchase on Flippa and are a serious buyer I have no problem granting access. Just send me your email address.

2) Why when I went to buy an item from your site was the shopping cart disabled?
Glad you liked something on the site! Check out the description we wrote - my partner and I stopped accepting orders back in August, that's why you can't checkout. We both had other things going on in life that took us away from MCA and we didn't have time to tend to the site. That's why we're selling!

3) How many dropship companies do you use for the site?
Currently we use five dropship companies. We set out to provide a good variation of product and tried to only build relationships with manufacturers who sold at MAP pricing.

4) What is the average profit margin on the items you sell?
15% - 25% is roughly the average profit margin on the items we sell. We only try to sell items that have MAP policies in place and with free shipping we made sure there was still enough room for us to make something on each sale. Depending on the item, some can be more and there might be a few that can be less if we had to price at MAP and that made the margin a little lower.

Please see the INVENTORY EXAMPLE SPREADSHEET that is attached to the listing. We have this built out for the entire product inventory and goes through each product line by line with cost, MAP, margins, etc.

5) How is shipping calculated from your website to actual cost from the drop shipper?
We either were provided shipping costs from the manufacturer or were able to estimate based on orders that went through. We built that into our estimate of profit margin as you can see in the attached Inventory Example Spreadsheet.

6) How many emails were you getting when the cart was on per day?
Probably 5 -7 emails a day. We also have a Skype telephone that was grabbing voicemail messages. 0-2 voicemails per day.

Thanks for looking everyone!

@tensegrity No idea what a DA12 means. And no idea it says there is only one referring domain. More than happy to give you access to Google Analytics as I've done for several other who have reached out. We had several articles written about us, blogs, various DIY sites, etc. Not trying to trick anyone, just want the site to land in good hands to continue what we've built.

@Yniboy7998 Sure just private message me your email address.

ManCaveAuthority ( | $7K )
Sun, 02 Apr 2017 04:42:44 AEST

@daktarels Each manufacturer that I work with pays a certain amount for each team license. In the world of licenses, NBA teams are harder to obtain, and because of that, the companies that we work with currently don't have access to those. As for national teams, we didn't make any effort to try to obtain manufacturers that sell those items.

For whoever takes over the site, there are manufacturers that have access to additional licenses, so you could easily add those to the site if you built the correct relationships.

Looks like a fun site to own, but only nets 300/month? That's be little for such a nice site with items that "seemed" overpriced like a $60 wall clock.

I'm surprised profit margins are only 15-25%.

Still a very interesting site

ManCaveAuthority ( | $7K )
Thu, 06 Apr 2017 02:13:37 AEST

@Vovinam you would be hard pressed to find any dropshipping site with margins greater than 15%-25%.

Can you please PM me with a link to Google Analytics? Very interested buyer here. Also, curious to potential action items as "cra726" stated. Have you run any email marketing campaigns?

ManCaveAuthority ( | $7K )
Thu, 06 Apr 2017 11:03:40 AEST

@rfscreative @cra726 that's a great question. Here are the four things we would do immediately:

1) Ensure all of the inventory is up to date with manufacturers and build more efficient uploading process. Right now, all product uploading is done via CSV. I had a VA work with me to get all the manual work in one Excel sheet and I can mass upload via product type. Every season, the manufacturers change inventory, get more teams, add new products, etc and we haven't kept up with that. Just in the manufacturers we work with there are more products that I haven't added to our list. In addition, I would implement a Shopify enabled product to make that process less labor intensive.

2) Email marketing. We collected email addresses at several spots - checkout, MailChimp, and the app that adds a pop-up when a user has been on the site for 60 seconds or so. However, we've never done anything with those emails and with the content that we created at the time we could get a great email newsletter going and point people to products during certain times of the year (World Series promotion, etc.)

3) Re-enable Google Adwords. Google Adwords changed their process maybe 12 months ago, and we didn't keep up with what was required of the new process. We had a great system where we had estimated CPC bids for most of the products and that was a pretty good source of traffic. I would spend time working on that type of advertising and get CPC going again.

Hope that helps, happy to spend more time walking through any of these.

@rfscreative - PM me your email and I will add you.

Why in many months is your COGS higher than the revenue in that month?

ManCaveAuthority ( | $7K )
Sun, 09 Apr 2017 13:44:57 AEST

@gesteve Great question, and I've gotten this a lot in private messages. The negative COGS are purely due to the cash basis of when I received the cash for products vs. when I paid my suppliers. For a lot of my manufacturers I can pay on credit, and then I have net-30 or net-45 terms. So I could have a $3,000 month one month but not have to pay the manufacturers the $2,650 until the next month, which can make it look like I lost money even though it was from revenue the month before. All of my products were priced so that there shouldn't be any net negative upon purchase.

Who is your biggest competitor? How many competitors do you have?

ManCaveAuthority ( | $7K )
Tue, 11 Apr 2017 02:58:18 AEST

@Oushus there are several "man cave" sites if you take a look at Google. There are pluses and minuses to all of them (more/less inventory, more/less content, better/worse site).

In our opinion, we stand out on overall aesthetics, quality of product, and content.

2) Are those returns sent back to the drop shipper, if so at what cost?

ManCaveAuthority ( | $7K )

@AlxCC I have had probably 8 returns in the history of running the site. 5 of them because something was either wrong or something had damaged in shipping, 3 were flat out returns. The five were accepted by the dropshipper. The other three were shipped back to me and I sold them at a clearance price.

ManCaveAuthority ( | $7K )

@AlxCC Sorry, the only cost in the ones shipped back to the manufacturer was the shipping, which I offered to cover for the customer.

Fri, 14 Apr 2017 15:52:33 AEST

Can you explain, if this was a successful business receiving orders, and you only have 5 drop shipping companies where you needed to funnel orders to, why did you not just hire a virtual assistant to process orders to the drop shippers once you received them?

Will the drop shippers still work with you as you have not been ordering for 8 months?

Do any of the drop shippers have licenses for NASCAR?

Thank you

ManCaveAuthority ( | $7K )
Sat, 15 Apr 2017 01:34:51 AEST

@pronetmedia As I've mentioned several times, the first thing I would do if I was taking over this site is put more efficient systems in place, like a VA. I'm selling because my partner and I don't want to own a drop shipping site (with or without VAs) as we've been focusing our business efforts in other places.

Yes the drop shippers will work with us.

I will check on the NASCAR licenses.

I've been looking at your income statements - I'm not getting some of it. Your showing a lot of losses for example June 2016? How could your costs of goods sold be higher then the sales? That's a tremendous loss that month. Can you provide us more details on the financials as this is a good site but it's not earning an average of $300 monthly. Also what is "other? Is outside services your blogging expense? Why did you turn your shopping cart off on your highest earning sales month but continued to spend on advertising and traffic if your cart was your primary source of income? What did you do differently on months you were profitable vs months left in the red?

ManCaveAuthority ( | $7K )
Sun, 23 Apr 2017 01:19:03 AEST

@sjf129 I've gotten this a lot in private messages and above in the comments.

Outside services are the things I pay to keep the site running - Shopify, Skype, etc.

The cart was my primary source of income for this site, not from my life/career. As mentioned above, we simply didn't have the time to manage it in the way we should have been.

sjf129 ( | $6 )
Sun, 23 Apr 2017 09:16:34 AEST

Hey. Thank you kindly for your response. You've been super helpful in this unlike a lot of auctions I see. I guess what I'm asking is why continue to run the site as if it had a cart? Like why continue to driving traffic to it but operate it at a loss. Why not just sell it in August? Also, I know you're using Shopify but the site doesn't look like it's mobile? Has that had any impact on your SERPS? Thanks again

ManCaveAuthority ( | $7K )
Sun, 23 Apr 2017 09:27:48 AEST

@sjf129 no problem. There was no work in "continuing to run the site". The traffic was mostly organic from the blog posts. To be honest, we meant to sell the site but just procrastinated as other parts of our life dominated our time. No we never did mobile, which is a good point, that's one of the things I would add to the list of items to take immediately by the new buyer. I believe that Google does rank sites that have mobile higher than those that don't.
