Seller's Notes

Quick Facts:

1. Business is partially outsourced. I do the client communications and some basic filter design in Photoshop (quicker to make edits this way). I hire designers to help with heavy lifting design work. Cost with them varies from $5 for quick designs to $75 for complex filters with custom cartoon work. Introductions will be made to those designers.

2. Website has tremendous SEO value. Site rank at the top for many searches including: custom Snapchat filters, Snap filters, custom snap filter, birthday snapchat filter, snapchat filter wedding, bar mitzvah snapchat filter, create custom snapchat filter, custom snapchat filter for business etc.

3. 92% of traffic is organic SEO driving 5,000-7,000+ visitors and 10-15k page views per month. Low bounce rate of 39%.

4. Marketing potential is huge as I have done nothing besides for reaching out to 2 bloggers who posted about my site.

5. Snapchat is the most popular social app and everyone wants a custom filter for their birthday, wedding, event, business etc. Millions of potential customers.

6. I currently work 10 hours per week answering emails and making minor tweaks to designs.

7.  Minimal monthly fixed costs of ~$30

8. Large target market and highly scalable if you can rework the flow and order management.

What makes us different from the other guys?

1. Higher price = higher margin. I don’t waste my time with $25 orders. Average order price in 2016 was $150 and average order so far in 2017 has been $179.

2. US based. Customers value working with a US based company that can communicate well over email

What you get with the sale:

1. Domain name ownership

2. Squarespace account

3. Website and original Snapchat filter design files

4. 1,000 email mailing list of past customers and high value potential customers who signed up for mailing list

5. I will be available for 1-2 months to answer any questions.

6. Instagram and Twitter accounts, @mysnapfilter, and email account [email protected]

7. Relationships with corporate clients, event planners and PR firms that are repeat customers

After you buy the site, I recommend the following:

1. Site redesign. Change order flow to a tiered pricing model where client pays upfront instead of a quote system like I have now.

2. Ramp up advertising.

3. Create order management workflow so designers will automatically receive orders from the site. This would cut down on the need for you to be relaying information from client to them.

4. Create blog content to rank in SEO.

Have you had anyone from Snap Inc. (Snapchat parent co.) contact you to stop using your domain name? From the brand usage guidelines on their website:
Don't: Use "Snapchat," "Snap," or "Chat" in your app name, website name, domain name, or product name.

@jmg146 Snapchat hosting fees vary based on the size of the area covered, amount of hours the filter is on the app, and the location (high density big city vs rural area). Typical events range from $5 to $20. You can play around with fees here, geofilters.snapchat.com/purchase/upload-asset

@sitepro1 I have not had anyone from Snap Inc contact me in regards to the domain name. They certainly know I exist as I have spoken with them before and I process many filters with them.

@mysnapfilter The hosting fee is paid by mysnapfilter? or The client? And how long does the process take from start to finish from design to installing these filters on clients accounts?

@mysnapfilter what is the reason for the big jump in revenue during the fall 2016? Were you testing paid advertising then?

Noavatar
mysnapfilter ( new )
Thu, 16 Mar 2017 07:08:36 AEDT

@speedcouture No paid advertising has been done since May 2016. All traffic has been organic and direct from referral of past customers. I attribute the jump to the fall being a popular time for weddings and bar bat mitzvah parties.

Interesting project. I do have some questions.....

In your P&L, Outsourcing fees are surprisingly low ($1200 on $25,000 of revenue) - are you doing most of the design yourself, rather than outsourcing? (The Filter Design above, in your time commitment breakdown shows "1" under "who" - what does that mean?

What are SnapChat Hosting Fees (over $3,000 for the TTM)?

What are there refunds and chargebacks every month (and, why are they for small amounts)?

Finally, can you provide a breakdown of what the various prices are, and how they are determined?

Thanks.

@stevem5 Q1: In your P&L, Outsourcing fees are surprisingly low ($1200 on $25,000 of revenue) - are you doing most of the design yourself, rather than outsourcing? (The Filter Design above, in your time commitment breakdown shows "1" under "who" - what does that mean?
A1: I have been doing some of the simple design requests myself as i have some basic photoshop skills. I outsource anything I cant do or would take me too much time. I pay $5-20 per filter (as high as $75 for custom cartoon work) to outsourced designers.

Q2: What are Snapchat Hosting Fees (over $3,000 for the TTM)?
A2: Snapchat hosting fees are paid to Snapchat.com in order to have the custom filter available on the app at a location for X hours. The bigger the location and the longer the time, the more expensive it is. Some clients are not technology advanced and would be lost if they had to upload the filter on their own. Others simply enjoy the convenience of having us upload the filter. As such, I charge them premium to do so.
The clients who understand the upload process are sent the filter design and they handle the associated fees.

Q3: What are there refunds and chargebacks every month (and, why are they for small amounts)?
A3: There really aren't refunds or chargebacks. That line item was on the spreadsheet when Flippa asked me to fill it out so i put it down as 1% of total sales. You can ignore that expense.

Q4: Finally, can you provide a breakdown of what the various prices are, and how they are determined?
A4: The current order flow is on a quote basis. The price i quote depends on the type of event (big vs small), and complexity of design. I estimate the design costs and price accordingly, making sure I am happy with the margin. Quotes start around $75-$95. For weddings and bigger events they start at $150. Corporate clients start are quoted $200+. Ideally, there would be an order management workflow for my 3rd party designers and an order process that clients would pay upfront based on a tiered pricing structure.

can you give us a view on what your March 2017 revenue / orders / profit numbers are looking like ?

Noavatar
mysnapfilter ( new )
Fri, 17 Mar 2017 01:20:59 AEDT

@adamwarduk
March Revenue: 9 sales totaling $1,193 with another $575 in orders pending. 75% profit margin.
The site received 44 order requests in March so far. I simply dont have the time to answer all the orders. I respond to orders I see as being the highest likelihood of converting to a sale and highest margin. It is not a perfect model, i know.

Nice site. It seems that as traffic has gone up, profits have not necessarily gone up. Is there a reason for this (unable to handle higher number of orders, etc.)?

Thanks!

@ewex
Q1) It seems that as traffic has gone up, profits have not necessarily gone up. Is there a reason for this (unable to handle higher number of orders, etc.)?

A1) The sales funnel is working well. A lot of traffic to the site, a majority make it to the order page. There have been 50 order requests in March so far. The issue is I have a day job and cannot concentrate fully on responding to order requests. Given my time constraints, i focus on the orders that pose the highest price/margin (weddings, engagement parties, baby showers, bar mitzvahs, corporate events).

Thanks @mysnapfilter. Very helpful. Two more quick questions. What percentage of order requests tend to convert to sales? Also, what percentage of your sales tend to be for corporate clients?

Thanks!

Noavatar
mysnapfilter ( new )
Fri, 17 Mar 2017 15:32:18 AEDT

@ewex
Q1) What percentage of order requests tend to convert to sales?
A1) A client places an order, and based on the complexity/type of event, i send them a quote. I start my pricing at $95 for a filter. Expectedly, this scares some people away but due to my time constraints right now, I want to keep my profits/margins high for the amount of time i put into the site. It varies month to month but typically 25%-35% of orders placed convert to paying orders right now. Lower volume but higher price. I expect this model to change under new ownership.

Q2) What percentage of your sales tend to be for corporate clients?
A2) 5% as of now. Past corporate clients include Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Clorox, Virginia Tech University, and Chivas Regal Liquors.
