Description of App
First Call is a mobile subscription service to help consumers discover New York City’s best bars and save by getting your first drink on the house.
Deciding where to go for drinks is never easy. First Call is here to put an end to that:
First Call members get their first drink included at any bar in our network (70+ venue partners).
Members can go to each venue once a day and a new venue every 2 hours.
We have a vetted selection of New York’s finest bars for every occasion. From wine bars to sports bars to cocktail bars and lounges; whatever you'd like to do, we have the bar for you.
Members currently pay $25 a month for the benefit.
The app is available on the App Store and Google play and has been download over 12,000 times with over 200 current subscribers.
The app has been created in cordova/ionic from the ground up and has been integrated with 3rd party plugins including Contentful for CMS, Zendesk for email, Mixpanel for user analytics and a parse clone for the database.
Current costs are about $200 per month.
There are currently 70+ venues within the network. All partners have agreed to partnership by signing an agreement (the buyer will receive the template contract).
Members pay $25 per month for the benefits included in the service. There are legacy customers on cheaper plans and the current ARPU is $17 per month. We’ve set up a referral system that allows any member to refer a friend for a first month of $5 and as a benefit that member will receive their next month for $5.
The venues provide the benefit for no charge to us, per the agreements that we have signed with them.
Why is the app being sold?
First Call needs to be continually updated on all platforms. The current founders have decided to split ways and pursue other opportunities, neither of which has the time to maintain or expand the current service of the app. Main needs for the app to continue/grow would be marketing, sales (for new venues) and minimal customer service (<20 emails per month).
What is included in the sale?
Included in the sale would be all rights to the code, design and First Call brand. We’ll also provide all agreements with venues, rights to 3rd party plugins, and sales (venue acquisition) strategy documents.
There is the possibility of expanding the app beyond the New York market, as the service is easily transferrable.
The app is built to eventually allow for tracking of specific drinks ordered by users that could be used to partner with beverage companies as well as the venues.
We found the most success marketing the service over social media (Instagram was particularly successful) and average a return of 2.5x per user.
