About the Business
Vapor Puffs began in April 2013 as a means of supplemental income, and has since generated over $400,000 in total sales. Over the following two years, the revenue grew exponentially and quickly became a viable small business that could support future growth. The business peaked in July 2015 with a revenue of $33k for the month.
Are you the original owner of the business?
Which platform does the website use?
Where is the site hosted and will this need to change after purchase?
WPEngine.com. This does not need to change if the buyer is satisfied with the host.
Why are you selling the business?
The business requires more attention than I can currently give. I currently work a full time job and because of the lack of attention, sales have dramatically declined this year. When I was more focused on the business, sales thrived. Unfortunately, I have lost my passion for the industry and have gone back to software development as a career. The right buyer could absolutely bring new life into Vapor Puffs.
Can the website’s revenue be tracked back to the website?
Yes, revenue can be accurately tracked back to the business.
Is the website’s revenue kept separate from other business and personal accounts?
Yes, completely separate.
Are you willing to provide live revenue verification?
Yes, upon request from serious buyers and/or Flippa marketplace integrity.
What are the main expenses of the business?
Up-front cost of inventory is the main expense. However, over the last 18 months, we have moved to more of a drop ship model. Most of our sales now are drop-shipped which cuts down inventory cost to a minimum. A buyer can easily finish moving to a 100% drop ship model if desired to eliminate ALL inventory costs.
Shipping costs are, on average, $5 per order.
There are no other costs that account for over 1% of the overall revenue. Hosting is around $100/month. We do not pay for advertising.
Please list all domain names you are including in the sale
Are you including any social media sites in the sale?
Yes, the following accounts (which were all grown organically) are included:
Are there any email lists included in the sale?
Yes, there is one email list kept in MailChimp with around 5,500 subscribers.
Are you including any inventory?
I am including all of the available inventory that is currently sold on the website and is not drop shipped. This includes ~200 high quality herbal grinders with "Zinc by Vapor Puffs" branding (this brand was never officially launched).
What are the primary traffic sources of the site?
Organic Search is the top source. We rank top 20 in Google for 5,700+ keyword positions including some popular very products. For example, we are on page 1 for the following keywords.
The next top traffic source outside of Organic Search is Direct traffic, which we believe is attributable to the strong brand loyalty and repeat customers.
Have you done any Search Engine Optimization?
Yes, I have done substantial whitehat SEO. Each product listing follows all up-to-date SEO guidelines. We use Yoast SEO to verify that every posting is optimized for SEO. This includes both the content and meta- content.
Has the site ever received any search engine penalties?
No, to my knowledge my site has never received any search engine penalties.
Do you use, or have you experimented with direct / display advertising?
We used an advertising agency for 3 months in 2015 at a $1k/month budget. They advertised on websites that have related content to the products we sell.
Have you experimented with any other sales / marketing initiatives?
Yes, we were very active on reddit on /r/ecig and others for some time. This proved to be one of the most successful ways to market.
Do you have employees or contracts with freelancers?
The business has no employee currently. It used to have an employee in 2015 when business was much better. They handled customer service (emails and chat) and shipped orders daily. Since the operation was much smaller in 2016, I was able to handle that myself even while working a full time job.
How is the content of your website produced? Provide a step-by-step breakdown
For new products:
1. Manufacturer photos are cropped to fit our website's styling.
2. A product description is written that matches all SEO criteria outlined by Yoast SEO for the most commonly searched keyword that is specific for that product. We have a template that is followed for each description.
3. Meta information is filled out for that product.
4. Pricing is typically set by the MSRP.
5. The posting is then published via the Wordpress interface and the product goes on live on sale.
Please Describe the Owner's primary responsibilities
Operations - Ship orders, answer emails amounting to roughly 8 hours per week.
Does the owner need specific skillsets in order to successfully operate the site?
Basic computer skills, basic social skills
How is customer support handled and what is the average volume?
Handled via Emails & chat. Between 5-10 customer emails per day. Chat can be turned on when somebody is available to take chats. Chats are usually less than 1 per hour.
Please identify and briefly describe your main competitors
What makes your site better than the competition?
Most of our competitors carry either herbal vaporizers or ecig vaporizers. We carry both. We found that if customer uses one type of vape, they will most likely use another. Ecig vapes can also be used for hash oils which many customers recognize. By targeting both demographics, we significantly increase our base market.
Additionally, unlikely many of our smaller competitors, our website is professionally built and looks beautiful. This gives the customer a certain degree of confidence when purchasing from us versus the others.
Approximately how much inventory does the business keep at any given time and is any current inventory included in the price?
Current inventory is included in the sale. While I don't have an exact number, there is between $5k and $10k in gross value of inventory on hand right now. The business has been keeping less and less inventory as it moves closer to a drop ship model. The new owner can decide whether or not to keep inventory at all or to keep more.
Where is the business’s inventory kept?
Inventory is kept in a home office at the moment.
Is it necessary for the business to keep its inventory in a particular country or a state, in order to retain the current profitability?
Are you willing to sign a 3-year non-compete contract in the industry that the website operates in?
Yes, I am.
Will you provide 1-3 months of post-sale support & training, in order to ensure that the buyer is able to fully take over the business and its operations?
I can be available in a limited capacity for help, but not for a full support/training. Part of the
What are the primary growth opportunities for the business going forward?
The business could use fresher listed items to attract a new audience. Blog posts can be written to increase organic search traffic even more. We found that writing "How-to" guides really increases sales of that product as well as SEO. SEO Backlinks have not yet been developed and that could prove to be very profitable in the long run once thats done.
Why the drop in revenue in November?
The revenue dropped in November partly due to an inventory shortage and partly due to our lack of seasonal promotions. Many of our competitors ran Black Friday sales, while we did not. December revenue is already ahead of November.
How do you expect the new vaping laws will impact the sites profitability?
The new vaping laws should actually decrease competition significantly. An overly saturated market led to a major sales decrease in middle of 2015. I expect that if the new owner can comply with the new merchant requirements (which are not overbearing), they will find themselves with a more friendly environment than what most of 2016 saw. 70% of our sales currently come from herbal vaporizers which have not been affected by the ecig laws.
Does the site make sales internationally or just in the US?
We do make sales international to select countries. Mostly countries where there are no anti-vaping laws and where we can do address verification on their credit cards.
