Description

Purchase a 100% legal, profitable music streaming website going viral as we speak!

4,300+ Facebook likes, 1,650+ tweets, 1,500+ Google+'s

I built GetWorkDoneMusic during July as a fun side project.

Toward the end of July, I put it online, posted it to Hacker News, and instantly went viral hitting #1 and being posted to hundreds of blogs.

Some notable sites it was posted on include:  Liferhacker, USAToday Popcandy blog, CNET How-to, Fuse.tv, HowToGeek.com, MakeUseOf.com, PCWorld (see full list of URLS below).

I'm not looking to make a lot of money from this sale, but instead give it to a good owner that is looking to grow the site.

I've gotten countless emails asking me to further develop the site, one saying that they'd be willing to pay a monthly membership subscription to access premium features like favoriting (see below). Another spoke to me about incorporating upvote/downvote buttons to play similar songs and build personal playlists (like Pandora). An email (attached to listing) asks to build an accompanying mobile app ($$$ potential here to charge a few bucks for the app).

? It is great! I'd pay a monthly fee (somewhere around $10) to be able to star tracks and over time build up the best work music play list.

Unfortunately I don't have any available time to dedicate to this site since I have some other projects going on with other partners. So instead of letting it just sit, I thought I would release it.

Buzz!

See what everyone's saying about the site in real-time: https://twitter.com/search/realtime?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.getworkdonemusic.com

People LOVE this website and the concept. Just check out the tweets!

Programmers, designers, writers, students, creatives... in the office, at home, during hackathons and late-night projects, even at the gym...It's being used by professionals all over the world, giving people the music-driven energy to get sh*t done.

A stunning amount of people remember the name and unique concept.. they end up sharing it with their friends and getting back to the site by typing the url directly in their browser or googling it. The brand equity on the site is already high, and the potential for branding is even higher!

Hosting/Bandwidth Details

The website is technically very simple, running pure PHP and JavaScript and talking to the Soundcloud API. It doesn't even use a backend database, making it super fast and less demanding on server resources.

The website can be further developed or edited by any competent PHP/JavaScript developer (RentACoder, Freelancer.com, eLance, etc.).

Since the website just streams the songs straight from Soundcloud, there's no bandwidth resources needing to be used on the site. So what does that mean? Server costs: $0! I've been hosting it on a $15/month Site5 shared host and it's been able to keep up with 1000s of simultaneous connections from visitors all around the world.

I try to keep the algorithm a secret since that's the beauty of delivering the great music on the website, so I will only explain my methodology to the winner. The script to source the tracks from Soundcloud will be included.

BTW In the screenshots the "Avg. Visit Duration" metric is not accurate because that can only be calculated when they visit a second page on the website, and since this is a one-page website it's not possible. The average visit is most likely in the hours!

Additional Revenue Details

In the beginning I didn't have any monetization on the site. At the end of August I put an AdSense leaderboard banner on the bottom to see what would happen, which has consistently been making money (see AdSense screenshots).

This shows interest from visitors toward relevant ads, and future monetization potential. Making real revenue from this site could include strategies like incorporating more of an ad-based layout, creating a membership structure, or developing paid mobile apps. Even a combo of all 3 would skyrocket the site's potential!

Additional Traffic Details

See attachments.

In its first week, the site received over 58,000 visits after going viral.

Lately it has stabilized betwen 500-1500 visits a day, but in the last few days it's gone viral again and been receiving in excess of 4,000 visits per day and made $85 just on Thursday Nov. 29!

Interesting. How does it work? How do you select tracks from soundcloud? How do you know what's Fast and what's Faster?
What things could soundcloud change to their API and put you out of business?

how often do you generate the json playlist files? Do you do any filtering on them? Does it load the server when you do so?

    Hey Marsawi,
    >> How do you select tracks from soundcloud? How do you know what's Fast and what's Faster?
Soundcloud has an API that lets you search their huge database of tracks and play them. They have a filter in their API to search by BPM (beats per minute), so I use that as a threshold for fast/faster. The music is on the website is original from the artists who created it, and when these artists put their songs on the site they allow others to play it for free. This is why the site is legal and it works out really well!
One of the problems I had to solve while making this site was how to pick out the best tracks. Since anyone can upload to Soundcloud, there are a lot of low quality amateur artists. The API search I developed as the solution finds the highest quality, most popular tracks really well. Just try it out yourself, all the tracks it plays should be excellent.
    >> What things could soundcloud change to their API and put you out of business?

Well I'm using the API exactly how they want their users to, as explained in their docs, so they would have to pretty much just get rid of the whole API to stop the functioning of the website. But APIs are really popular these days for websites/businesses to interface and use their service, and since it's already out there they are invested into it. I don't see any problems in the future.
    >> how often do you generate the json playlist files? Do you do any filtering on them?
As explained above, I developed an API call to generate the playlists. I do filtering to get only the most popular/highest quality tracks.
    >> Does it load the server when you do so?
Nope! That's the beauty, I just call the API script about once a week to update the files and other than that there's barely any server resource load. Since there are 100s of songs in each playlist, played randomly for each user, there's plenty of content. Even for someone who listens to it all day.

Over the last several days as the auction comes to a close I've been speaking with a lot of interested buyers. I'd just like to say thanks to everyone and all your questions, and I hope that at the end of the auction everyone is happy with the outcome!
Here's a recent piece of excited feedback from a visitor of the site regarding the sale and development of the site, via Twitter (good stuff!):
