Description

SURRF.COM - FAST 5-DAY AUCTION - LOW RESERVE PRICE

As I see it, the value in surrf.com is not its actual content today — but what it can become. A pronounceable five-letter dot com with a true meaning is very rare these days. I will outline a few business ideas below. First off, some formalities:

I grabbed this domain name in February 2010 the very second it expired. Dang!

For the record, the page today houses a surfing blog. Mind you though, the blog itself is only 5 weeks old. Anyone with sufficient skills in Wordpress and a feel for good graphic design could come up with something similar in a working day or so. I obviously didn't make any of these videos myself, but the design and the blog posts are 100 % original.

The page is a Wordpress installation with a premium theme called WP-Clearvideo by Solostream. The plugins in use are:

  • Aksimet
  • All in one SEO Pack
  • Aweber Web Forms (opt-in email list)
  • Contact Form 7
  • Fast Flickr Widget (displays selected pics in sidebar)
  • Favicon Rotator (custom favicon)
  • FD Feedburner Plugin (for RSS feed subscribers)
  • Get the Image (enables thumbnails on the front page)
  • Google XML Sitemaps
  • Open in New Window Plugin (all outgoing links open in new tab)
  • Pinterest RSS Widget (displays selected pics in sidebar)
  • Quick Cache
  • Quick Flickr Widget
  • Really Simple CAPTCHA (for the contact form)
  • ShareThis
  • StatPress (visitor stats)
  • WP-PageNavi (better looking pagination)
  • WP SlimStat (visitor stats)

Strong Social signals

At the time of writing, the front page has

108 Facebook likes
15 Google Plusses
519 Stumble Ups
53 Tweets

All of these are genuine, and I have never paid a single penny for a backlink or anything remotely connected to black-hat marketing. This  domain name is super-safe in terms of Panda and Penguin. On top, there are many organic backlinks to the inner posts and pages. Myself, apart from installing a few plugins, I have done very little on- and off-site SEO.

Traffic

Traffic comes and goes. I have never paid for traffic. A typical day the page gets 5-20 organic visitors from Google and a couple from StumbleUpon. Pretty decent, I would say, considering that I haven't posted anything new for several weeks. Around 80 % of the traffic is from the US. The traffic stats are verified by Flippa via Google Analytics. See also the attached screenshot.

Revenue - Clickbank - Adsense - And More!

Two or three of the blog posts link to surfing related Clickbank offers. I have actually made one sale -- proof attached. I also had Adsense running for a month, but the traffic volume was too low to generate more than a couple of dollars. Adsense is disabled now, as is good practice when selling here. You can verify that surrf.com is NOT blacklisted by Adsense by using the Google Adsense Sandbox Tool: http://ctrlq.org/sandbox/

With good incoming traffic though, I am confident that surrf.com can become an Adsense monster!

Optional/Complimentatory Business Model

An optional income could be selling shortened URLs. I thought about it, but haven't implemented it yet. Huge market! For instance, everybody who deals with Clickbank knows the importance of link cloaking. Example, which link would you rather click of these two?

#1 (made up): http://8792423468f35u35odmbyefaau.hop.clickbank.net/
#2 (real): http://surrf.com/buy-now/

Easy choice — yes? The latter leads to this sales page. It is very easy to cloak any URL by editing the .htaccess file on the root folder of the homepage.

You could either use surrf.com to cloak your own URLs, or you could set up a business and sell surrf.com/anything/-links -- think about the possibilities! Isn't surrf.com the optimal short URL for generic links?

What you will get

  • Immediate domain name transfer to any registrar
  • Immediate access to the Wordpress admin account
  • A complete Wordpress backup, including theme, plugins and database, so that you can set the page up again in minutes
  • Instructions  how to run this Wordpress theme, and additional ideas for future development
  • Support up to 30 days by email, should there be any remaining issues

Why I am Selling

I run a small company (non-internet related), which deserves my full attention these days. I am therefore exiting my online endeavors and wishing the winning bidder best of luck!

Final Words to the Buyer

This domain name and site has a huge potential. I hope the buyer takes it to the next level and truly turns it into the money making machine that it is destined to be.

I WILL BE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY OF YOUR QUESTIONS!

The first bid is actually quite close to the reserve price.... just a hint.
