Google’s Cheat Sheet to Analytics, Impact of Slow Loading Times and End of Free G-apps

During the week, two members from the Analytics team at Google gave a presentation on how to use the tool effectively. Social collaboration platform Tracky has conveniently summarised their main points and tips into 10 neat points.

Last week we linked to Analytics in 2013 and the lead generation, part two was published not long ago. Does this match your predictions for the upcoming year?

Since 2010, Google has been tracking load time when ranking sites. Google cares because if a site takes ages to load, the visitor won’t bother — which means less Googling and less money for ads. We’ve found an infographic that explains how load time affects Google rankings, and what you can do to fix it.

Google has dropped the free version of Google apps for business. If you want access to their suite of products for your business or startup, including Gmail for businesses, you’ll need to open your wallet.

Start A/B Testing, Twitter for Customer Support and 5 Killer Trends From 2012

A/B testing is a brilliant way to discover what what works, and doesn’t. Kissmetrics has published a guide on how to run an A/B test for your website. It’s a lot of information to digest, but once you’ve got your head around the process, the information you gather could prove to be invaluable.

23% of big businesses have a devoted Twitter account for customer support. The effectiveness of this varies depending on the kind of business: for example there’s not a lot a bank could do over Twitter. In Flippa’s case, given that money and property is being exchanged, we think limiting contact to 140 characters hinders rather than helps, but you can always reach us on our support page.

We’ve been looking ahead to 2013 recently, but now it’s time to look the other way. Here are 5 pretty cool trends that emerged this year… and what they mean for 2013 (we couldn’t resist).

Mayer’s Yahoo Comes Into Focus, Optimise Social Media Landing Pages, and an 85 Year-Old Learning to Code?

Marissa Mayer’s vision for Yahoo! is becoming clearer by the day, with the recent release of Flickr’s app for iOS, to rival Instagram and Twitter’s new photo sharing service. With Bing making inroads against Google does Yahoo! have its priorities right?

Social media landing pages are incredibly important: the person hasn’t come to you with purpose, they saw your ad on Facebook or Twitter, and need more information on your company. If optimising that landing page is a priority of yours, welcome to social landing pages 101.

Who said old dogs can’t learn new tricks? We loved this story of an 85 year old learning how to code. If he can do it surely you can!

Finally, Google has been helping NORAD track Santa on Christmas Eve since 2007, but this year the jolly man will be tracked by Bing. A mere marketing ploy, or is Father Christmas picking sides in the Google/Bing wars? Perhaps I’m just reading too much into it…

I begin building my website a few months ago, to find that I may need to pay google money for people to see my site. Google make it very hard for small companies to compete.

After speaking with google about adwords, I decided to opt out and find other resources.

Its unbelievable how a small niche can blow up and amount to millions of dollars.

In fact, there should be multiple platforms. Ex. small business adwords – large business adwords.

I am lost, but hopefully I will find my way around this monster.
