Check Out This New Feature: High Ranking Website Report
Posted on September 1st, 2010 by Dave Slutzkin
It’s spring over here in Australia! But unfortunately it’s still grey and raining. At Flippa, we’re consoling ourselves by crafting innovative new features for you all – check out this one:

We’ve added a report which shows you keyword rankings for websites for sale on Flippa. Go on, click on that link and check it out!
This great new report uses data from our excellent partners at SEMRush to give you a completely new view of Flippa listings. It tells you which keywords sites rank well for, giving you the ranking as well as some information about the keyword itself.
So, from the screenshot above, you can see that printox.com ranks #2 for the high cost per click keyword “affordable business cards”. That one doesn’t necessarily have a lot of searches for it, but the site also ranks well – #4 – for “business card printing”, which has a lot of searches. Does that means that it’s worth more than the $2,222 the auction is currently tracking at? Not sure – you’ll have to decide that – we just provide you with the tools!
Now, this report is in the final stages of beta, as we’re still tweaking it. Thanks to those lucky few newsletter subscribers who got a sneak peek at it last week, you guys were great, and many of your ideas have been incorporated. But as I said, we are still tweaking, so let us know in the comments what you think of this tool and we’ll endeavour to make it as useful for you as possible.

Interesting approach, data centric services are some of the most important measurements in modern business models.

I am always taken back when a client let’s their website expire and has no idea that their website and domain name has accrued value. (Some more than others I am sure). Too bad you can’t say the same about the real estate market!
September 2, 2010 - 1:24 am
Another great addition to Flippa. I think I will really like this and will definetly be following along.
September 2, 2010 - 1:34 am
Great feature. I have been waiting for it quite a long time. Thanks
September 2, 2010 - 1:55 am
This looks like it will be a welcome addition for those people who are buying sites and at the same time providing the seller with more credible data.
I also believe the information on Flippa should be required learning for new web entrepreneurs. The sites listed for sale here can teach you all you need to know about creating a website that ranks high – and – earns money too.
Another great job guys!

This is a good thing! very useful! thanx for putting it together!
Best regards from Sweden

I am not confident with searching too far into Flippa looking for deals since I got some sort of virus or something and it cost me almost $100 to get rid of it! Can you do something about security concerns on Flippa?
September 2, 2010 - 3:03 am
Oh come on Linda, that could have been your husband looking at porn. How do you know it even came from Flippa? Geeze.
September 2, 2010 - 5:12 am

September 2, 2010 - 11:24 am
Thanks Flippa, this is once again value added to your already excellent service.
Very helpful!
September 2, 2010 - 12:41 pm
It would be immeasurably more useful if it allowed for searching/fitering by keyword.
September 2, 2010 - 1:02 pm
That data tells you the potential customers/visitors but it doesn’t by any means tell you where their site is ranked for the keywords.
I recommend instead you let the seller put in a list of their top keywords and then you show the volume and where the website ranks for those keywords
Obviously this data would have to be displayed in the listing but you can always add their position for the main keyword with one more column.
Overall useful, though.
September 2, 2010 - 6:21 pm
Overall a good idea. But when I compare rankings provided by Semrush and other tools, such as SEOSpyglass, there are often big enough differences…Semrush ranking lower pretty often…it also depends on the data centers maybe…
I think it should be made clear to buyers that this is only an “estimate” , and that these rankings might vary (daily even!) and that they should do their own research as well.

It provides one more signal one can use before even deciding to take make further analysis of the site. The more signals, the better.
September 3, 2010 - 2:00 am
Great addition guys! This will give buyers a general idea of what the sites rank for so they can do further investigation. As someone mentioned, I would make sure you emphasis somewhere that the tool is only an estimate and that buyers should do their due diligence and research to confirm the data shown. In other words, buyers shouldn’t rely solely on the data shown.
As to Josh’s comments about allowing the seller to enter their own keywords, a seller still can – manually anyway. All you would need to do is list the keywords and the ranking for each and a screenshot (or video) showing the rankings on Google itself. You could also provide screenshots and videos on the search volumes for each keyword using Google’s keyword tool. Ya, it’s a manual process but probably more accurate than most “automatic” tools anyway.

September 4, 2010 - 5:37 pm
super article
September 5, 2010 - 12:11 am
Yes, yes, yes…. We know. Now hurry up and implement it so I can list several sites (which rank #1). Been waiting for for u to go live and wrap up your usual sell congratulatory hoopla.
September 5, 2010 - 12:05 pm
This is really useful. I don’t have to check with Semrush separately anymore.
September 6, 2010 - 7:03 pm
Good Time saving concepts!
September 8, 2010 - 5:00 am
Great feature. I like this.
September 8, 2010 - 5:40 pm
Hi Guys,
This is a great new feature in that it’s providing valuable real data about a site, which in turn provides critical insight as to the real value of the site. When things are as competitive as they are, every edge helps and can potentially make a big difference.
September 9, 2010 - 9:28 pm
Thanks for posting this article. very helpful at times I wonder what some of the sites that I have let go would be worth by now.
September 11, 2010 - 7:32 pm
How about blog, can I Sell in Here..?
September 13, 2010 - 3:26 pm
Great feature for sellers too, they can prove they put some effort in their sites.
September 15, 2010 - 2:17 pm
Thanks that is a great addition. very useful and will reduce the amount of time i need to investigate the domains before buying.
September 18, 2010 - 9:20 pm
All around nice
September 20, 2010 - 7:37 pm
I would like to see better fraud prevention systems in place.
Can you confirm this sale actually took place?

Priit,
The buyer failed to follow through with that sale. The seller filed a dispute using our Dispute Procedure and the site was relisted immediately when we ascertained that the buyer hadn’t acted in good faith. The site is now relisted here:

This is dumb. In general I really F*cking hate the layout of this site and think it is very confusing. I enjoyed Sitepoint much better to be honest
October 1, 2010 - 5:27 am
it is very good feature. Will be very helpfull for buyers.
Thanks.
October 6, 2010 - 9:42 am
Its an ok feature, but there are many obscure keywords that are getting 100ks of searches.
Also, you have not mentioned the new nav layout, where the tags are in a dropdown, which I am sure will decrease traffic to auctions.
October 8, 2010 - 7:14 am
Interesting feature. Thank you
October 13, 2010 - 7:10 am
My day is complete. This site is great! I learned something. Keep me on your email list.
Thank you
Mark
October 14, 2010 - 3:41 pm
Thanks for another feature Flippa
October 14, 2010 - 7:01 pm
nice feature…. glad to know it before
October 25, 2010 - 10:59 am
Great report, but I’ve been noticing a lot of faulty results on it… stating that some sites are #1 in google for search phrases which they very obviously are not. Really need to be more careful with these and double check the results.
October 25, 2010 - 11:45 am
All of the results in that report come directly from SEMRush, so we’ll make sure we check this out with them.
October 29, 2010 - 7:50 am
What did SEMRush say, Dave?
October 26, 2010 - 9:27 pm
I think the Google Keyword tool is more reliable than any tool around.I do not trust any other tool. Its funny some people will buy tools that do the same or less than what the free Google Keyword Tool can do.All these other tools get their info from Google and people who are lazy or ignorant will fall for these hyped tools.Sitepoint, thank you for Flippa. It is the best and most active website marketplace on the internet. The features are great and there is a lot of auction information for the buyer to base his decisions.Keep it up.
October 28, 2010 - 5:46 pm
how can i add my site to this list?
October 28, 2010 - 7:25 pm
Is your site listed for sale on Flippa? That should be your first port of call! If you still can’t see it, and you think it should be there, contact our Customer Support to get us to have a closer look at it.
