Browsing Flippa Listings Just Got Easier
Posted on February 9th, 2010 by Luke Moulton
Browsing Flippa’s website and domain name marketplace just got a whole lot easier! We’ve launched a new look listings page designed to help you browse listing statistics at a glance.

The new format lets you easily find and compare buying opportunities without having to click through to each listing one by one. No longer do you need to click on the stats icon to see a listing’s essential details; now you can view and compare listing stats all on the one page.
You’ll also probably notice that we’ve integrated search refinement options into the sidebar. Flippa’s powerful advanced search options are now more accessible, so you can refine your search without having to leave the listings page.
Check out the new listing format.
Sellers, Make Your Listing Stand Out
Along with the new interface, sellers now have the option to upgrade their listing to include a thumbnail image on listings pages. For $12 make your website listing stand out even more by including a feature thumbnail image that will appear in all listings pages.

Upgrade your website listing to include a thumbnail image in the listing summary by doing the following:
- Click on the Purchase Upgrades link to the bottom right of your auction details page.

- Select the Screenshot on Listing Row option from the upgrade options.

- To finalize your upgrade, click the Next Step then Make Payment buttons to the bottom of the upgrade form.
We hope you find the new listing format improves your website buying and selling experience on Flippa. We’d love to hear any comments – drop us a note in the comments section below and let us know what you think!

Is there any way to make the text easier to read. The color for the titles and url are kind of hard on the eyes.

Steve,
These haven’t actually changed from beforehand, but we’ll certainly consider it. Anyone else have the same problem?

The selling feature is not functioning at the moment.

Yup, thanks, this was actually unrelated to this change and is fixed now – let us know at support@flippa.com if you have any further issues.

Is there a reason you guys took out the actual end date of the auctions when you’re looking for the sites that sold? The old format was nice because a guy could see at a glance what sold in a given month – and then “study” those listings to see what’s selling and what’s popular.
With the new format, you have an option to sort by end date, but you can’t actually see the end date anywhere on the page. I don’t know if a site sold today, yesterday, or 6 months ago. PLEASE put the actual end date back in the display somewhere!!

Richard,
Nope, no reason, that was an omission which is now fixed, thanks for that. I hope it now does what you need.

Awesome new looks and features. Thank you!
I was wondering this for a while: a feature would be nice so I could remove those listings that I’m not interested in forever from the lists that I see so I can focus only on those that I’m interested in.
I come here every day and although the favorites feature is great, removing would be awesome.
Thanks keep up the good work!

Thanks for the suggestion Mark. It’s something we might look at doing in future.

Agree with this, would love to see a permanent “hide auction” feature. Theres just too many “turnkey” sites that would be great to permanently remove from site to decrease (ever increasin clutter.

Your filters are not functioning properly. Just entered 1,000 into number of hits and saw a bunch of sites with 100,000+ traffic disappear. Domain age filter was not working properly either.

Thanks for this report, the pre-existing bug causing this should be fixed now – please let us know if the behaviour persists.

Dave:
Thanks for the quick reply (and response to my complaint) but I’m not seeing the fix. When you click on the “Just Sold” tab and go through all the pages of SOLDS, I’m still not seeing the actual end dates anywhere. Is there a setting I’m missing to see it???
Thanks,
Richard

Thanks Richard. We’ll look into this today.

Fixed, sorry about the delay on the rollout.

Awesome! You guys added it back. I’m a happy camper again;) Thanks for such a quick response.

Hello
I believe as well the new listing appearance is harder to read than before.
February 10, 2010 - 4:02 am
No offense intended (since I love your service), but I liked the old design a lot more.. In my opinion it was easier to use and had a lot cleaner look.
Thanks again for all that you do to ensure that you have a good product but I would suggest going back to the way it was before the last update.

Is there still a way to search for premium, established, startup sites etc? Cant find it…
February 10, 2010 - 7:54 am
Chris,
Check out the top bar where it says:
“High End, Mid-Range, Entry Level”
I think that’s what you’re looking for.
February 10, 2010 - 6:55 am
I dont’ understand why you keep changing things around guys. It took me 10 minutes simply to find my own listing under new formats. People may get used to this format after a certain amount of time but curret listings are pretty much screwed till visitors get used to the new format. You know the old saying ; dont’ try to fix something if it aint broke…
February 10, 2010 - 10:15 am
No way it’s easier. It’s different.
Lost whole “established” section – present has completely different set of sites.
February 10, 2010 - 10:20 am
PK,
Do you mean the “established” search preset? This was removed because it was only used by about 0.5% of users, and because the “High End, Mid-Range, Entry Level” presets do the same job, but better. Also, “established” was very easy for sellers to cheat, so we felt it was unfair to buyers to leave it there.
February 10, 2010 - 3:25 pm
I believe it’s an improvement – definitely !
But guys, PLEASE change the colors a bit. Too bright and certain combination are really hard to read.
You should make some parts darker.
keep it up!

It’ll take a while to get used to the new design, but I think it looks good at first glance.
One thing though: you can sort by date listed, but that field isn’t displayed (unless I’ve missed it). I’d like to see that date and really, if you’re able to sort by it, it should be displayed.
February 11, 2010 - 1:34 pm
I really really miss the “established” search preset.
now, in order to reach the established search, I have to click a listing and then use the old “preset searches” button.
when I compare the “mid range” and “established” search results, I find the established is much better (for my needs anyway).
oh, and by the way, I love your site and service.
thanks!

Ron,
OK, so what you’re saying is that you’re interested in sites with between 500 and 100,000 uniques per month – that was the extent of the old established search criteria. It might be worth you setting that up as a saved search, so then you can tweak it as necessary?
February 11, 2010 - 10:29 pm
yes, I guess I should set up a saved search.
but I think many buyers look for inexpensive sites that are not brand new (start up). that’s exactly what the “established” search is for. but today you can find these kind of sites either in the “mid range” or “entry level”.
for example: now there is a golf site for sale which was built 3 years ago and gets 2400 page views a month. you can find it under “established” but not under “mid range”.
February 12, 2010 - 10:51 am
Ron,
The problem is that we had many complaints about what actually comprises an “established site” – and rightly so. Who are we to decide when a site is established? This is a criteria which means different things to different buyers. Our aim is to make it easy for any individual to set up a search which will perfectly encapsulate what they want – it takes about a minute.

Suggestion – not related to re-design but anyway: trust manager – put there +1 option “paid for listings on Flippa/SitePoint” – I guess it’s powerful indicator then someone used real credit card or verified Paypal account instead of questionable things like “phone number” or “linkedIn account” or “Facebook account”. Even my dog “has” Facebook and Twiter accounts – but I don’t think it makes him a valid buyer/seller =)

I hate to be a pain here, but I found another “error” with the new display – and again this pertains to browsing the Just Solds listings.
The Time Listed is not shown. You can sort by Time Listed but you can’t actually see the List Dates anywhere on the display. I have to click through to each auction to find out when it was listed. The display before this change gave me End Dates and List Dates (side by side no less) right on the display so I could see at a glance how long it took for a given site to lose.
I don’t suppose I can get you guys to put the list dates somewhere on the new display, can I???
Richard
February 12, 2010 - 10:42 am
Richard,
Nope, sorry. We took it out on purpose to give us more room to put in more important information. The time listed was deemed to be the least important, as all most people care about is the time that the listing is ending. I’m willing to listen to arguments the other way, but I can’t guarantee that we’ll find space to squeeze it back in, sorry.
February 12, 2010 - 11:48 am
Perhaps in the scenario where the user has chosen to sorted by “Date Listed” we should swap the End Time for the Start Time, only when that is the sort preference? Would this be a suitable compromise? So it would go from something like “1 day” to “29 days ago”.
