Wow, is it almost 2013 already? Every year is a big one here at Flippa Headquarters, but the whole team can unanimously agree that 2012 has been a massive year for us.

2012 in Numbers

Flippa buyers placed over 413,000 bids on auctions in 2012 and 29,022 websites and domains were sold since January — a increase of 3,000 sales over 2011! The total value of those sites and domains was over $22 million.

There were 2.9 million unique visitors on Flippa this year. With just over a week left to the year, there’s a strong chance we’ll hit 3 million uniques for 2012, as opposed to last year’s 2.1 million uniques.

98,523 new users joined the ranks of Flippa’s buyers and sellers this year; we also said goodbye and good riddance to the 8,000 users we banned or suspended. A big thanks to our Marketplace Integrity Officer, Danny, for his hard work in removing those accounts!

This year, we also solved over 30,000 support tickets, ranging from helping website sellers with getting their listings live to assisting website buyers in setting up saved searches and bidding. Since we committed to responding to all support tickets within 24 hours on business days, our support team has been kept busy!

A Year for Big Website Marketplace Enhancements

Our support agents weren’t the only busy bees this year: our developers worked hard to launch several new features this year. In the last 12 months, we launched

The rest of our team also worked hard this year to improve the safety of both our buyers and sellers by adding

    Amazing record.. very inspiring growth..

When I launched my first website in 2009 I never thought my passion would grow this big. I actually didn’t learn html untill August of 2012.

P.S. Didn’t a site just recently sell for $5,000,000 on flippa i think it was a SEO site.

    • Ophelie at Flippa

Hi Nate! There was a disputed sale for $5 million several weeks ago, but that’s not counted in our total sales for the year (nor are disputed sales counted in our total on the home page).

It’s nice to see our industry thriving and amazing that flippa had 2.9 million unique visitors with the possibility of hitting 3 million for 2012. It’s a slam dunk of where I need to go to get noticed with my websites. Thanks Flippa and Happy Holidays.

Where can I find the financial statement for Flippa?

I’m curious how much it makes and what expenses it incurs.

    • Ophelie at Flippa

      Hi Hasan,
We’re a private company; we don’t release financial statements.

      • Sam

I think from these numbers it’s quite easy to guess your financials.

With 29K sales and over 50% sales to auction ratio, it’s quite possible that total number of websites and domains listed in auction would be around 58K. With the listing fee of $29, just this listing fee would earn Flippa over $1.6 Million last year.

Considering your overall sales of 22 Million I guess Flippa success fee would have brought in additional 1 Million.

With all the Upgrade fess and premium listing I can bet Flippa has a revenue of about 3 to 4 Million last year.

That’s great to know Flippa is making good money. A win-win situation I would say. We make money through your platform and you guys make good money too.

My only suggestion is that you guys should considering lowering the listing fee if your business is doing well. Alternately this has a flip side of bringing too many bad listings to the place.

        Anyways great goings Flippa.

        Cheers,
        Sam

Good results, however I assume we’ll be seeing yet another massive fee hike in 2013? Seems to be a traditional yearly event now that you put your fees up. Can you confirm is this will continue to be the case in 2013?

    • Ophelie at Flippa

Hi Rick — did you see this recent post? We lowered the listing fee for new websites, which more than makes up for the small increase in success fee earlier in 2012.

      • Sam

This is a great move. A clever one helping out new website owners to do a quick Flippa. You guys are really good at this :)
