Hi folks, this is my first listing here on flippa so apologies if I miss anything out, please pm me with amendments should you wish anything to be added.

I am looking to sell two complementing personal project websites which I developed a few years back. the first one is an image & text based poll generating system called SigPoll.com which can output to html & bbcode for users to place in their forum signatures, forum posts, myspace page, blog posts, or pretty much anywhere that can accept html & bbcode input.

The site is hand coded in php & mysql by myself, It's had a fair few bug fixes and stability improvements over its time. Its basic, though solid.

Features include:

  • Very easy to use
  • Quick and stable thanks to caching and optimising disk/mysql usage.
  • Just 2 simple steps to create your poll
  • Supports up to 10 poll answers
  • Highly customisable, see examples: http://sigpoll.com/example.html
  • Allow/deny comments on polls
  • Dynamic image generation based on text length etc
  • Full utf-8 character support
  • Image & Text based output available
  • Easy to repost polls for more exposure
  • Collaborative spam filter, users can upvote/downvote comments on polls. After certain threshold spam comments are placed in a togglable hide state.
  • Users do not need to register to post/vote

The site was designed by me to be simple and functional its quite minimalistic though unique.

I would like to see the site go to someone who would further develop it, there is quite a bit of potential here should you have the inclination. I was going to integrate it with facebook but never found the time. I would be willing to share some further expansion ideas to the winner should you wish.

I have not touched the site for almost 2.5 years now, and its time to let it go. In terms of monetisation, I haven't really done anything apart from putting a few unobtrusive google adsense adds on the pages. I think with the right person it could do quite well.

As you can see, the site is quite popular and some months we can get almost 40k uniques with over 80k hits. As I say, I have done no advertising for the site at all apart from using it in my own signature on a few forums. At one point, the site was page rank 4 and ranked in alexas 100-200k.

I am selling the site as I have just lost my day job and need some cash to try and live on. Plus, I really don't have time to manage such a site and I don't want it to go to waste, I didn't 2.5 years ago.. and to be honest.. I am not sure why I didn't sell it before.

The site needs someone to monetise it or something, I never really did anything seo wise to it. I'm sure you can turn this into a nice little earner with its traffic and potential.

The second site I am offering is built on the same technology as the other site but allows for users to create highly customisable image based shout boxes that again, can be used anywhere html, bbcode or an image and a link is accepted. It is called SigChat.com and uses the same type of custom caching system to reduce server load and various other mechanisms, though it uses its own file system and database thus being independent.

This site has quite a bit of work to do on it and again, I would be willing to share a load of ideas about further improvement with you.

Anyway, thank you for looking and I wish you all the best with the bidding. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them below or send me a private message.

Revenue Details

Revenue is currently earned through google adsense. I have noticed that on some of my pages, my adsense tracking channel isnt present, which means the stats show the site as under performing, for eg.. this months detailed report shows $5 earned, though in the overview it shows $27 earned. It's my own fault and I cant prove the site earns more so I have taken the earnings from the channel data I have available. This basically means the site earns more then is shown here, bonus for you I guess.

Also note that the stats on this auction are only for the site SigPoll.com, the beta SigChat made £26.48(~$40) during 13 April 2008 - 30 April 2010

Traffic Details

The site SigPoll.com does around 30k uniques per month and around 55k hits, this was averaged over the last 6 months as per 'flippa' recommendations.

Note that the beta SigChat was never added to google analytics, don't know why I didnt but the only valid traffic stats I have available are from my adsense account which between 13 April 2008 - 30 April 2010 where 66,532 page impressions.

Access to google analytics is available to serious bidders.

What sort of reporting is available (via a control panel etc.) for someone who 'owns' an individual poll?

    Thanks

    PM if you prefer

Can you break it down into # of visits to the website vs # of "visits" that were caused by the display of or by voting on your widget? Just want to get an idea of how many people actually look at the site each month.

Do you know how many active polls there are per month (# that get some votes)?

    Thanks

@hhi - The site requires very little moderation almost none, for that reason I never developed an admin control panel. For the little moderation required, everything can be done through phpmyadmin.

@jk_sp - I cannot give you an accurate enough of an answer for it to be 'set in stone' as I have never tracked that information. I guess you can look at the analytics data to get a rough idea based on referrals and direct traffic the site receives.
As for your question regarding active polls per month. - Again, I have never tracked such data though all the poll information is stored in the database such as poll creation date/time, vote date/time and voter ip etc so I guess you can create a small script to parse this information should you wish. I'm not sure if this is of interest to you or anyone else, but I created a small script to display all the new polls created on the site which is located at http://sigpoll.com/new.php . I really never had time to take this site further, it's a shame really because there is a lot of potential for the right developer.

    thanks, Shaun

I am curious why the last traffic report for this month (and indeed the others too) show that with the expetion of the first half of April there appears to be very little traffic (perhaps betten 50-150 visits/day), yet you claim close to 30,000/month.

What happend to get that increase. What is a typical visitor count per day? What is the source of most of your traffic? What needs to be done to maintain it?

I am very intereted, I am just concernd about the vistor count.

    Thanks

Hi, I have just uploaded google analytic stats for 1st April - 30th April. The total for that month was 36,343 Visits & 79,129 Pageviews. The lowest views in one day was 633 and the highest was 2843.

You do not have to do anything to maintain its current traffic level, I haven't touched the site for a good 12/18 months. So if you do some feature requests, and general work on the site, I'm sure more people will want to use it.

I do not pay for advertising, you can if you like use a free method of advertising the site which I used when I first started it just to test things. It worked pretty well. Basically, you just use the site yourself, and add it to all of your forum signatures and myspace, blogs etc so more people can see it.

Any other questions, please feel free to ask.

    Thanks, much appreciated.

Still a bit confused though. The referring sites listed in the report do not appear to have any links to you, nor to they appear to be relevant in any way.

    Any idea why?
