Description
What is FlannelPlanet?
I have always liked flannel shirts since they are 100% cotton and really comfortable. Flannel has been around for many, many years and remains basicially unchanged. One thing which has always bothered me is that all flannel seems to be plaid. I don't much care for plaid so a few months ago I thought - "flannel doesn't have to be plaid", and flannelplanet was born.
What is FlannelPlanet.com?
- FlannelPlanet launched on 10/09/2008. The store actually launched yesterday (1/11/09)
- We import and sell high quality flannel items
- FlannelPlanet is a great business for a bad economy. People tend to purchase comfort clothes.
How is FlannelPlanet promoted?
My plan is to use the online store and also list the items on eBay. The shirts cost about $4.50 delivered (including shipping, duty and forwarder fees) and I am targeting a retail price of $24. You can imagine the margins are pretty high. I have sold about 20 shirts on eBay during the first week.
Growth Potential
My first order was for flannel shirts. There obviously is a huge expansion potential here including lingerie, bedding, robes etc. all with the FlannelPlanet brand.
What's Included?
1. FlannelPlanet.com domain name: presently registered and hosted with 1and1.com
2. Customized shopping cart software (eCommerce Templates) ASP technology
3. All graphics including logo, images, banners and site content
5. Supplier contact information with letter of introduction
6. Training and advice on how to run the site and maximize your returns
Inventory
I have about 1150 shirts in stock at the moment which can be purchased seperately from this auction.
Revenue Details
I have extrapolated the monthly revenue based on initial weeks eBay experience since the form has required an amount. With a bit of promotion this site could be raking in thousands of dollars in profit each month.
Traffic Details
As I said the site launched yesterday, I imagine most of my traffic will be from SitePoint initially.
My hosting package includes $100 AdWords credit so I am going to get things off to a proper start this week.

Hello and thanks for your comments tastysites.
I can make some cash quick or run the shop for a year and turn it over for a lot more $.I'd really like to add more colors (blue and gray) but I ran out of space in my condo and am afraid to take the next step which would be to rent storage space.

Why do you write revenue $1,500 a month if you launched the site yesterday?

@petertdavis
Please read the description carefully.
I have extrapolated the monthly revenue based on initial weeks eBay experience since the form has required an amount. 20 X 19 X 4 = 1520

so will you be a competitor on ebay with inventory of 1150 shirts, or will you abandon your ebay sale option/business alltogether? the reason im asking is that if the new site owner will have option of continueing selling on ebay as you have been. are you using the flannelplanet.com brand on your ebay sales at this time?

@sitewatch
I will sign non-compete with buyer, eBay won't be a competitive area. I will abandon flannelplanet sales altogether. I am hoping the buyer would like to buy the shirts too.The winner gets full rights to the flannelplanet brand.

with so much potential as you are assuming, why would you be afraid of renting extra storage? the cost of a/c storage is not that high per month? I am guessing that this is not drop ship business but rather the owner would need to carry inventory. What costs are incurred in shipping and packaging all of these orders? What kind of time are you spending now to do shipping and handling of your current orders?
thanks. -

@kevinmesser2
I am not really afraid of renting extra storage, just lazy by nature :)
As an experienced eBay seller I can process and pack 30 orders in under 90 minutes. I don't do drop ship as I prefer to keep all the profits in-house. -

Thanks all, for those who are wondering about BIN, I have not set it yet but I do have a reserve. Feel free to bid and if you are too low you won't be obligated to pay because the reserve won't be met.
Don't expect me to sell too cheap as I have created a unique brand, web site, secured manufacturing and inventory. Owning a business there is nothing worse than trying to sell the exact same thing as others are selling, because it ends up in price wars and reduced profit margins.
By establishing a unique brand you can avoid this competition and set your own margins.

Smart to sell a flannel site in the winter, because you won't be selling many shirts in the spring/summer months. Weren't you asking $25K for the site (including 1200 shirts)?

@FloridaClay
Thanks for that observation. I had listed the site prior to launch with a $25K BIN however that was not the reserve price :)
Somewhere in the world it is always Winter - don't limit yourself to the USA! -

To everyone who has asked - I just relisted all the eBay items. Still learning but now they are featured in the mens and womens categories and I prettied them up a bit with the globe logos.
Here is example:

@quitbqn
No the site is not oscommerce, but http://www.ecommercetemplates.com/. I have used them for other shops in the past and have had very good experiences. The site is running on an Access database but can by reconfigured to MySQL or SQL Server if you prefer.

Thanks for the bids and all your comments folks.
With this auction winding down in a few days it doesn't look like my reserve price of $5K will be met so I am probably going to keep the store and put it up for sale again in January 2010.
If anyone has any products they feel would sell on the site please contact me. I already have a PR3 on the categories.asp page :)
