Description

The site for sale is Blogsrater(dot)com.

Lets just get down to why this is such a terrific opportunity for someone:

* The appraisals. Yes, these are appraisals done by a few of these automatic appraisal sites so you have to take them with a grain of salt, but these appraisals do have some basis for the number they come up with. For example, DNScoop appraised this site at the highest $182,336 and this is how they say they came up with this price:

This value is calculated based on several factors including:

Links ( they say it has 216,182 inbound or backlinks )

Traffic (Alexa 427,132)

age of the domain ( almost 3 years )

site category ( important blog directory and review category)

domain keyword popularity ( important keywords blog(s), ratings, reviews and directory )

overall occurrences of the domain name on the web. ( do a Google search of blogsrater and you will see 311,000 results! )

They also take into consideration the age ( almost 3 years )and page rank Strong PR5 because it was a PR6 not too long ago )

Now, the appraisal is on the high end but if you compare it to a site that is in the same category like Blogcatalog, then you can see the value. Blogcatalog sold here at Sitepoint two years ago for $40,000! It wasn't making much but was a pr7, had a ton of inbound links and was getting organic traffic. Today Blogcatlog has passed up MyBlogLog which was sold for $10,000,000 to yahoo two years ago! How much do you think Blogcatalog is worth today?

Here's a couple screenshots of DNScoops appraisal:

OK, here's another online appraisal:

http://www.websiteoutlook.com/www.blogsrater.com

This one appraises Blogsrater at $8132.2

I would guess the value is somewhere between those two figures. ;-)

OK, lets move beyond the appraisal sites.

Traffic. Blogsrater ranks very high for important terms:

Google: Blog Reviews #1 out of 36,600,000 results!

Google: Blog Ratings #3 out of 85,300,000 results!

Google: Blogs Ratings #2 out of 81,900,000 results!

Google: Blogs Reviews #7 out of 172,000,000 results.

Plus, there are many more. To give you an idea of the number of phrases that brings traffic to the site here is the number from last month:

1104 different keyword phrases brought search engine traffic to the site! By the way, the top phrases are "review" and "reviews" in that order! Those are great keywords to get traffic from!

Here's an important stat that shows why having an older popular site is such a benefit:

92% of the traffic comes from direct address/bookmark. This is because a good number of the traffic bookmarks the site. According to awstats approximately 22% bookmark the site. The older a site is the higher the percentage that comes from direct address. At least that is the way a good site should be IMO.

To show how the search engines just love this site check out these stats:

15 different search engine bots crawled the site last month. These bots included Googlebot, msnbot, msnbotmedia, yahooslurp, alexa, voila, ask, linkwalker, voyager, yahoo slurp china, and Internet Shinchakubin.

Googlebot loves the site the most as it visited the site 14284 times in November  using up 241.81 MB in bandwidth! MSN isn't far behind with it's two bots.

Here are some screenshots to show some of these stats I am referring to:

So, I hope you can see the value of this site.

Regarding revenue, I used to make hundreds per month with it by selling text links. I cut those links out except for one. In fact I just removed about 5 others that went to some of my old sites. So I wouldn't be surprised if at the next page rank update the site becomes a PR6 or even a 7.

Right now I am not even attempting to make money from the site. The adsense is poorly optimized and there isn't any other advertising on it. I did start a newsletter recently and now it has about a hundred people. I haven't attempted to sell the list anything either. In fact I have only sent them a couple emails. I should have started the list three years ago, but it's better late than never.

Why am I selling this site? Well, I hate to but I am not doing anything with it. I have been thinking about completely redoing the site for two years. I have a great plan on how to do it and can share that with the buyer, but the truth is I haven't done anything with it in three years. And it still gets consistant traffic. It can be such a better site though. It honestly is primed to be a site that just takes off in 2009 and gives blogcatlog a run for it's money. Why not? The important pieces are there. The search engines love the site, it has plenty of backlinks, it has age, it has rankings etc...

All it needs is someone to take it to the next level because I haven't done that unfortunately. I really would like to see it be a huge success, then at least I could say I created it. :-)

Revenue Details

I honestly haven' been trying at all to monetize the site. The site does make some money from adsense but it's not optimized well at all for adsense. I think you can tell that easily. I have one paid text link ad one the homepage, this is down from 10 or 12 last year. With the text link ad and adsense the revenue is around $80.

I have made hundreds per month in the past from selling text link ads, but I stopped that months ago and cleaned up the site a bit. I think that helped with getting more traffic.

It was my intention to redo the site and encorporate ways to monetize it while changing it. I wanted to make it a free membeship site with upgrades for example.

The newsletter list will eventually be a nice source of income.

Check out the info above in the listing. That should answer all your questions.

Plus, there's no paid advertising at all.

The cost of hosting the site is almost zero for me. I have a $24 a month reseller account that has dozens of other sites on it. This is just one of those sites.

I hardly ever do anything with the site. Once in a while I delete spam.

I hope the buyer of this sees the real potential here and decides to redo/upgrade the site. Just taking it like it is and doing nothing would be a shame.

Your top-part Adsense is VERY optimized. I would risk saying almost illegal as u have the top horizontal ads stuck on the top menu with same colours.
I noticed it and still almost clicked while going for a menu choice.
But thats beside the point. I want to know How many people have registered in your list ?

    thx

Yeh, probably right on the adsense link ads. I can make a larger space between the menu and ads.

The email list has 82 on it now. I just started that a few weeks ago.

Are any of the contests still running?
Can we remove the text link ads?
Which countries does your traffic come from?

No, the contests aren't running. I need to remove that also.

Yes, you can remove the text link ads. I just removed 5 of them and added three new ones to get some of my new sites traffic. That's another bonus of having a pr5 site.
