Description

PicTiger.com General Stats?

#1) The site user base has over 65,000 + members. The site still receives anywhere from 120 – 200 sign up’s a day.

#2) Alexa ranking is 10,339 (http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/pictiger.com).

#3) The site contains over 8+ million non pornographic images. PicTiger.com receives anywhere from 8,000 – 13,000 images uploaded each day.

#4) PicTiger.com is not monetized . . . there is HUGE potential to monetize this site and traffic.

#5) Hosting is provided by 800hosting.com and cost $1200+ per month for 6 servers and 1 rented switch. The servers share bandwidth allocation and so far has not gone over. You will be responsible for taking over hosting as soon as the auction closes.

#6) The server environment is FreeBSD while the entire system is coded in PHP with PostgreSQL for the database.

#7) The site has been listed by Dmoz: http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=pictiger.com

I am not going to re-write the book on PicTiger.com, the site was previously bought and sold on SitePoint.com.

Here is the original listing of the previous 2 times the site has been listed.

http://marketplace.sitepoint.com/auctions/34647 <<the auction we purchased.

http://marketplace.sitepoint.com/auctions/18774 <<more information about the site.

About the site?

PicTiger.com is a transformed, really popular image hosting service into an image sharing/search network, with a lot of social elements. 100% custom coded. With a super fast search tool to search through the million uploaded pics for photos (again custom coded…it’s pretty darn hard to make such a fast and bug free tool when you have millions of images). State of the art technology.

I strongly advise you to read through the previous auction as there is a lot of detailed information about the site.

The site has not had proper SEO, but instead relies on the “buzz” effect. For some reason, the site seems to attract photos of really gorgeous women.

Adult content is strictly forbidden and there is a login area for reviewer to review newly uploaded pics. It is very optimized and can be done in 1 hour a day. You can really pay any person from India to do this. I have been doing this myself sometimes and it is very easy.

The Possibilities here are endless. You can further develop the social part of the site, add messaging...dating, games...videos..forums...chats. Or just leave it like this and it will continue to grow.

I would appreciate if only serious people contact me with inquiries.

Payment will be done via Escrow, so both parties are protected. If your country is not supported by Escrow, you call me and we will work out something.

I also will accept Bank wires.

The winning bidder will need to either arrange immediate payment or a $5,000 paypal.com security payment to hold the site.

The BIN is set at $2.50 / registered user (based on 65,000 members) which is $162,500. However we have no reserve, so this site will go to the highest bidder.

If you think your bid is worthy for us to close the auction and you can produce immediate payment, then contact us or call us and we will consider.

We will provide 30 days of support via Skype and voice if necessary to help the transition of the site.

Please don’t bid, if you don’t intend to pay for the site!

You are welcome to host it on your own servers (ultimately this is your responsibility). Just don’t forget you will have to transfer 8 million images, so it would be wise to at least move the servers into your name then start the transfer in case you run into a problem.

Please PM (nikolaalx) the original owner, he will vouch that we have access to the site. We have already been in touch with him earlier prior to this auction. I and my partner have split up due to differences (hence the different user name).

My apologies for the typo, we failed to remove that during the last minute revisions of the ad.

At the last minute we did place a $50,000 reserve price on the site (which is the minimum we are willing to accept for the site on a quick sale).

So any bid over $50,000 will win the site no questions asked.

Could you please post traffic stat screen shots, and verify the site? What is the reason you are selling the site, after owning it for a relatively short period?

    Thanks.

As we stated above in a previous answer we are selling due to myself and partner having split up.
Please PM (nikolaalx) an established member on sitepoint.com to verify that we are the owners who rightfully own the site. He was the original owner. PM me and I will add you as a user to GA.

I reckon there is . . . for someone who knew what they were doing
    :(
We always did better with retail sales sites working with physical products.

We had wanted to dive into the social networking aspect of the internet, but found ourselves utterly lost at the end of the day.

My particular specialty was working with paid media buys and SEO with a solid conversion ratio in sight. After I sell this, I will be looking for a job . . . . Any ideas?

    Joopenso,

The last 3 weeks we had attempted to monetize the site. As I stated in the response above that we “found ourselves utterly lost at the end of the day.”

It was our first time ever working as a publisher for adbrite so we had no idea on how to optimize the ads being showed. We felt the site should be able to bring in at least $0.50 CPM however we were hitting closer to $0.08 - $0.10.
So for us it was not worth the “headache” to keep the ads on.

It was at this point that we decided to sell the site and stick to what we are best at which is product sales.

So your optimistic projection is that at the right hands the site could make $6,000/month with its current traffic ($0.5 * 12K CPMs)?

    TriviaWorld:
I would think that is a reasonable estimate.

I had figured 10 million page views at $0.45 CPM which would put the site at $4,500 / month.

If you add on a couple more revenue streams to the site you should be able to hit the $6,000 / month mark.

With that said, the user base continues to climb. We have never sent out an email offer. Right now there are 65,000 registered members. I thought about sending them all an email advertising ringtones via the azoogle affiliate network, but never got around to doing it. Do the math if you had 1:1000 converting on an offer like that each month . . . . Could 1 email blast a month generate 65 sign ups? Not sure, but it’s worth a shot.

I wouldn't count on e-mail conversions. From my experience convertion rates on e-mail blasts are closer to 1:100,000 than 1:1,000.

There are better ways to monetize PicTiger but all that I can think of require a lot of further site development

Why does the previous listing show the site as established in 2007, wheras the current listing claims oct 15 2005?

The domain was registered in 2005, while PicTiger.com had an official launch of 2007.

The 2005 date only show the domain age which is coming up on 4 years old, while the software on the domain has been in place almost 2 years now.

    Hey guys,
I just want to verify that jason34 is indeed the person who bought the site from me. We are friends up to date, and he is a great person to work with. Anyone who buys the site from him, will find a honest partner and a good friend.

I remember I got several offers right after I sold the site (due to the increased popularity here on Sitepoint), for people offering between $1k - $4k per month for advertising. Site is a huge cash cow, just needs the right person to find a way to milk it. I see that traffic has been more than stable since I sold it.

If the potential buyer is active enough, will surely find direct sponsors. I mean, who would not want to place an ad on a 12 Million pageviews per month? Question is in price. Also potential lies in newsletters, and co-opt email leads.

Good luck with the auction mate, if anyone needs more info from the days before jason34 bought the site, I'd be happy to provide it to you.

    Cheers,
    Nik

net_hed: Any experienced webmaster knows that Adsense is the worst monetization method for large sites that have a general (social type) of traffic. This is so because Google utilizes these sites to distribute the lowest quality ads which they have in their inventory due to the lack of suitable advertisers.

Adsense is suitable for more targeted type of websites, which enable keyword triggered high cpm ads.

Have you seen a large image sharing site which shows google ads? Don't think so.

    Hi all,

I spoke with my partner and we decided to lower the reserve to $30,000 which has already been bid.

So this means the auction will go to the highest bidder no matter what our loss will be.

If you have a serious BIN offer and are ready to make immediate payment, let me know via PM.

    Good Luck!

The system has a state of the art photo review system which allows a individual to review 10,000 photos in about 30 minutes - 1 hour / day. This is why the database is 8 million images strong with no pornographic images.
