Description

Beaned.com, besides being an awesome domain name, offers more than 7,000 pages of funny videos, photos, games, and cartoons. All of the content is 100% safe work work and editorially selected (non-UGC). A major redesign of Beaned.com was done at the end of August 07.

A very detailed manual step-by-step manual on how to operate the site is available. A lot of money was spent on the software that powers this site, the major redesign and the new manuals for the site.

The reason the site is being sold is that the current owner has no time to operate the site anymore due to other obligations. (You can see the link to the other site on Beaned as there is a toolbar at the top) The site hasn't been updated since August of 07 yet still gets good steady traffic.

Features:

Homepage
-Automatic branding on images! Anytime I upload a picture to the picture section the site automatically puts the beaned logo on it.

-You have recommended sites that you can add/edit through admin panel

-Friend list where people can sign up for a link exchange. Then when you click on View all it shows in and out clicks for the last 7 days.

-Random media that pulls random media from the site but three of the spots are actually controlled through the admin panel and can link to anything. This was meant to be an advertising spot but is used for link exchange purposes.

-User online counter. When clicked shows countries users are online and when clicked on the USA one it shows states.

-Search function. Tag function on all content.

-At the bottom is shows the top 5 members in submission, comments and time spent on beaned.

User Profiles
-Every member gets a myspace type profile. They can send and receive messages, add friends, save favorite content, track their submissions, time spent on beaned, etc

-Commets system built with AJAX

Content Pages
-It tells you who submitted the content, when it went live and what date.

-Ratings

-Comments in AJAX

-Save to computer

-Tags

-Share with dig, facebook, reddit, flurl, ma.gnolia, del.icio.us, google, yahoo, blogger, and netvouz.

-Email to friend, AIM to friend, save favorites and bookmark.

Admin Panel

-Add content. You can pick a time and date for each piece of content to go live on the site. (If I go on vacation the site will still update if I enter in all the content before I go)

-You can add numerous pieces of content at one time. (I can enter a whole days worth of content and hit enter and it will upload all of them at the same time.)

-Edit content. You can edit any piece of content. You can change the description, title, time it goes live, etc

-NOTE- All videos are flv but give the user an option to download it in wmv format. So when you upload content you need to submit both types of media for all videos.

-You control all users profiles, how many points they have, how much time they spent on beaned, you can edit their profiles, their comments.

-Block users. You can block users and IP address from viewing the site.

-Approve content, including hotlink submissions. Users can submit content and you can approve it to go on the site.

-Edit all comments.

-Manage User Profile attributes. When they sign up they fill out information and you can edit the fields they fill out.

-Add banners (images/link and/or code)

-Edit advertisements.

-Edit advertisements plans.

-Add/edit/manage Recommended site (on left and right side of site) You can enter in how many days to allow the link on beaned and if one runs out of time you can add more days to it. This is great for link exchanges.

-You can block ip address and sites from being on the recommended sites section.

-Add/edit 3 thumbnails in random media section. 3 of those thumbnails can link to anything you want it to. I was going to try and sell those spots but I just use them as a link exchange tool.

-You can mass email all users.

-You can view messages users send you and emails sent it from the contact form.

-You can edit the website settings, such as, how many points a submission is worth, your emails, title of the site, etc.

-Excel reporting (tables)

-Edit the admin user profile

Revenue Details

The owner's plan was to concentrate on traffic and the redesign then optimize the ad networks. Unfortunately we have been to busy to reach that point. Here are all the ad networks running on Beaned and the revenue has not been tracked:

Ad Networks:
1) AdSmart
2) AdDynamix
3) Ad Median
4) Burst Media
5) CPX
6) InterClick
7) Precision Click
9) Right Media
10 Google Adsense

Revenue has not been broken down or even tracked since the current owner has bought the site due to other obligations and other businesses. The site brings in approximately 500 per month in revenue with 0 advertising however with some work the revenue would go up much higher!

Traffic Details

In early 07, the previous owner got 150,000 - 200,000 uniques per day: see http://marketplace.sitepoint.com/auctions/12861

IN mid 2007:

== TRAFFIC STATS (visits / page views):
June - 29,399 / 111,005
July - 101,208 / 195,720
August - 48,793 / 110,495

So the redesign has caused a loss of links? Is that why the traffic has dropped? I noticed there is also a fairly high bounce rate (55%). Care to comment?

When I try to check out the vidoes it says it's suspended in some other language, what's that all about?

[doobee] The loss in traffic was due to the non-updates of the videos (plus our engagement in other businesses that make a hell of a lot more money). After we changed the design, we actually got a spike in traffic.

[ML***] Cost is $20 for hosting. The major cost is time to update the videos.

[licensed_007] I think the issue is that since we haven't done an update in a while some of the videos up there were not carefully selected by the guy doing the last site update.

    To all buyers:

I am not desperate to sell so please don't PM me and ask me if I want to sell it for $2K or do a quick deal. The site has a great domain name, custom developed hi-powered software, full professional operating manuals and a history of success plus existing traffic. I didn't pursue full monetization of this biz, because the money I would have made by spending time on it would not have been even close to that of what I make in my other businesses.

For those who are interested I can take offers on the sale of the software license.

    Thanks.

Its interesting to see how your site comes up for a typo of funny pictures (funny picures). Is the typo in your title intentional?

    doobee - Yes it was.

Another thing to note is that our site is not based on some cheap script. We actually own the rights to our own software, the new buyer can actually sell the software to other video site operators.

How much work does it take to run the site on an ongoing basis? What is the a fair estimate of the hours per week?

What work is entailed to maintain it?

The impression that I have is that the content is self generated and must be approved by the site webmaster.

[augster] It takes about 30 minutes to day. No the content is not auto-generated or contributed by users. You need to go out and find the videos. If you wish you can solicit submissions from users however.

I would say about 3.5 hours per week .

How many registered members are there? Are they stored in a database that can be exported?
