Web Application: Brand/Reputation Monitoring

Description

We are looking to sell a web application that has been built in house to allow users to monitor references to keywords online.

Summary

Attenalert is a keyword monitoring tool that allows you to find references to specific words and phrases through various sources online. Provided as a monthly subscription based web service, Attenalert constantly tracks online sources and alerts you to new discoveries.

Based on the same principle as the Google Alerts service, Attenalert finds references from multiple sources whereas Google Alerts only informs you about new items in the Google indexes. Attenalert also provides additional features such as the ability to view detailed contact information about each site discovered, subscribe to RSS feeds, export results to CSV, exclude specific websites from the search results and plot graphs to show trends over time.

Features

• User Management - Users can register, verify their account, retrieve login details and update their account details.
• Keyword searching - Users can enter any keyword or phrase and the system will locate references to those keywords online. This happens using cron job queue processing to discover reference. More info.
• Detailed Info - Each site referencing keywords is presented with detailed information taken from the Amazon Alexa web service. More info.
• Alerts - As-it-happens and daily/weekly summary emails can be configured for the entire user account or on a per word basis. RSS feeds are also generated for users to subscribe to. More info.
• Statistics - Graphs and trends are automatically generated for user's keywords. More info.
• Billing - A free trial is offered first. Users are then billed based on the number of keywords they add on a per keyword basis, plus a fixed monthly fee. The fee is customisable on a global basis. Invoices are generated automatically on the 1st of the month and their card billed, with a retry on the 5th of the month (then suspension if card fails again). Currently integrated with SecPay (UK payment processor) for storing card data.
• Admin - View details of user accounts. When a new user upgrades their account (by entering payment card details), automated fraud checks are performed through MaxMind and an alert sent to the admin to review the account if too high score.
• Accounting - Integrates with KashFlow to automatically store customer details, invoices and payments (optional, can be disabled)

Technical Details

The application is written in PHP 5 and uses MySQL for data storage.

Hosting

A standard hosting account will be sufficient for this application - it does not require a dedicated server or any special set up. The standard PHP 5 modules are assumed to be available in addition to cron abilities.

Customers

There are currently no paying customers as we have not done much promotion for the product. There are a total of 25 accounts which are either still in trial or have expired.

Traffic

According to Google Webmaster Tools, there are 258 links back to www.attenalert.com from various websites we contacted about the launch of the product several months ago. These include blogs and other resources.

In the period Mar 16 2008 - Apr 15 2008 there were 468 visits and 1839 pageviews. 42% of traffic is from referring sites. 22% from search engines and 35% direct (Google Analytics, rounded).
